So, supposedly GOG is in consideration for development as a Marvel film project, though not likely currently beyond the conceptual/discussion stages at this point.
..Guardians is much more high concept than x-men, really. It could be Marvel's.. or Disney's.. modern Star Wars analog, if handled correctly. From a thematic standpoint, they could use Vance as a human/earth POV character, also Rich Ryder as Nova (preferably), but the main action should be off-planet, exploring different worlds, and yeah, galaxies.. My guess is that the Starjammers won't be showing up in any X-Men movies, so if they aren't legally bound to that franchise, they can show up in the Galaxy Guardians film, too, same goes for the various other alien groups, Shi'Ar Imperial Guard, Brood, etc.
If they include Rocket Raccoon and Groot, they must be treated in a straightforward manner and not in a cute, cuddly, annoying Jar-Jar Binks way..

I heard this story today as well. My understanding is that Marvel has just confirmed that this project is joining a number of other projects currently in development.

My opinion is that this project is the perfect jumping on point for a Marvel/Pixar union. If you consider the amount of CGI required to bring some of these characters to life.

I think an important question is which team should be used to launch the franchise? While I find the idea of using the current Rocket Racoon team tempting (and certainly Pixar friendly) when considering the extensive history of many of the other members like Drax, Gamora and Star-Lord.

If it were me I would consider making the team a combination or former and current teams. My line up? Major Victory, Rocket Racoon, Groot, Charlie 27 & possibly Nikki Gold. I would like to see Starhawk as well but the character might be difficult and controversial to bring to film. We could instead substitute some Captain Marvel incarnation, like Martyr.

I would link the franchise to the current MU by adapting the Quest for Captain America's shield.

Villain of choice would most likely be Korvac but a compelling case could also be made for a number of different cosmic bad guys. Elders of the Universe for example.

I'd get Rockne S. O'Bannon to do this. It's going to be like Farscape but with a bigger budget and better production values (unlike Serenity).

This will be very interesting.I'll see this movie when it comes out.

I trust marvel to deliver, they haven't disappointed me yet.

If the Sh'iar are ever introduced into film, I'd actually prefer that they show up in a cosmic title rather than the X-Men. Yes, GotG would be a great way to integrate the Sh'iar seamlessly.

And as for the Starjammers...I agree that they might never become part of the film universe. Just speculation at this point, but I'm willing to bet that Fox plans to scrap Scott Summers' origin story altogether (and face it, Corsair is not only the worst concept for a father ever, he's also arguably the worst frickin' father figure one could *ever* ask for) and scrap canon to make Havok become Cyclops' father. (Which isn't as weird as it sounds....it would be reasonable enough to say that Cyke inherited his beam power from Daddy Alex; it's just that his energy is contained in his eyes instead of his chest.)

Joe Mantegna has to do the voice for Rocket Raccoon (is he's in it).

I'm sure Marvel would have Rocky/Groot the way they are in the comics. If they were like Jar Jar for some reason, I'd demand my money back.
