Guardians of the Galaxy

This could be epic

or it could be Green Lantern.

I hope that if they do make this movie, it has ties to the Avengers and also sows the seeds of the Korvac Saga. If there could then later be a joint Avengers/ Guardians movie where they battle Korvac, then THAT would be epic.

No. I don't want any ties to Avengers. I'd rather it not be in the same universe, just because there will be questions like "Well, why don't the Avengers help them?"

It's a big universe. No reason they can't co-exist. As for why the Avengers don't help them, they live on Earth. Quinjets are nice, but they don't travel faster-than-light. Besides, some crossovers would be nice. They'll never have a Guardians of the Galaxy/Avengers team-up, as that would require paying out WAY too many salaries, but there're other kinds of crossovers they can have.

- Thanos: If he shows up as an Avengers villain, he can later show up as a GotG villain.
- Ultron: He can graduate from being a planetary threat in the Avengers to a galactic threat in GotG after taking control of the Phalanx.
- Ronan the Accuser: He could turn up as an Avengers villain and then become a hero alongside the GotG.
- Adam Warlock: They could retain the Asgardian links in his origin. Maybe have a Thor and Sif cameo in his origin.
- Kang the Conqueror: He can be a villain to both the Avengers and the GotG.

And so on. There's plenty of things they could do which would enrich both franchises that don't involve Nick Fury showing up after the credits.

Good points, but my argument against that is that movies are not like actual comic books. It's easy to just draw the same villain every month because readers don't care as much as the average moviegoer. They can do storylines that span several issues.

But for superhero movies, they are less episodic. Studios realize that these days, audiences want a new villain each time out. Otherwise, they might think "what's the point of paying for that if it's the same bad guy again?".

I don't think that'd be too much of an issue. After all, Darth Vader was the villain for two-and-a-half Star Wars movies and they were still wildly popular. Likewise with the Harry Potter movies, where Voldemort has been the villain in one form or another for about six movies. Audiences have proven a willingness to see the same villain over and over again so long as the stories are good and the villain is compelling.

I think that, if done right, the audience would love to have that "Oh, @#$%!" moment when the villain which they think was previously defeated in an Avengers movie turns up as the villain in a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I know I had that feeling when I was reading Annihilation: Conquest and Ultron turned out to be the villain behind it all. Sure, something like that would get played out if it was done every time, but I doubt it'd be every time, or even most of the time.

And remember, we're not just talking about reusing villains. Ronan may be a villain in an Avengers film, but that doesn't mean he'd be one in a GotG film. He could instead turn out to be an ally or somebody they have to deal with. Likewise, retaining Adam Warlock's history with the Asgardians is a nice touch which serves as a reminder of the connection without detracting from the overall stories.

i love cosmic stuff, i was hoping gl was gonna be such a hit that marvel would go cosmic. that didn't happen, but im glad it hasn't soured marvel on cosmic properties.

from slashfilm, it gives a little backstory about the gotg

which guardians are they gonna use? also how can they have the 2008 team without being able to use annihilus as an excuse to bring them together. and will quasar just seem like a green lantern knock off to the general audience?

I hope the GOTG members will include Nova and Darkhawk, because those two can launch solo films.

Who should voice Rocket Raccoon?!?!?!?!?

i like nova but darkhawk's fleshed out story just seems dumb.

How so? Darkhawk suit is a suit for space terminators and mercenaries. The antithesis of Nova Corps. Powell is only using the armor for good, when it should be used for evil.

I would rather have Nova in his own movie. I prefer to see the original Guardians of the Galaxy first, or at least to acknowledge that they existed and are still around. The new Guardians ARE more like the Avengers or even the Defenders - a group of heroes/ characters who were more known individually than as a collective. You've got characters like Moondragon, Mantis, Rocket Racoon, Drax, Gamora, Groot etc.

The originals were more like the X-Men - known purely as a team and not really as individuals outside of it. I'd like to see Vance Astro, Martinex, Charlie 27, Yondu, Starhawk and Nikki.

If we did have the new team, I don't like the modern costumes. What's the point of having Mantis or Moondragon all covered up? I prefer their barely there classic costumes from their time with the Avengers.

that term made me vomit a little in my mouth. also his costume sucks, he looks like a freaking silverhawk or the vulture from spiderman. they tried to make him more interesting like they did with nova, but they failed. nova was done awesomely they really managed to resurrect him. but darkhawk just seemed like they tried to hard to make him interesting.

Ok if you don't like the term... assassins. This is a space Wolverine mixed with Cylons-like synthetics.

Costume is subjective, I think they look cool as long as they don't overdo the wings. At least it doesn't look as silly as Hawkman.

I doubt it too unless they can keep the budget under $150. If Thor is supposed to be a C-lister, then these guys are like Z-listers.

Marvel is it's own studio, it doesn't have to sell it's properties to itself.

I wish they would do a Silver Surfer movie instead. It could be their 2001: Space Odyssey.

i was joking about the name you used to describe him, just hearing terminator does that. but truthfully i just can't find anything i like about darkhawk. it was just not interesting to me, but i guess i can see the appeal for you, it is just not for me.you have to admit they tried really hard to beef up his suit and make him as powerful as nova with the nova force. they didn't try to beef up starlord, but he is still more interesting than darkhawk to me.

i would love that as well, but fox still owns the silver surfer and have him on the shelf.

I think This is goin happen and i hope they build it up like they do the avengers and have this be Marvel Studios Space Epic Team Up I think this could really be big

Movie studios are afraid to do the whole alien vs alien in space. I guess it has something to do with the human relation to the audience. Personally, I'd watch the hell out of a Guardians of the Galaxy, starring Rocket Racoon. There's usually some truth to the rumors, but I'm not sure even Marvel Studios dare touch this. At least not with a big budget.

That being said, Marvel did take a chance with Thor, basically turning a B-list character into a legitimate A-lister. So I can totally see Marvel Studios being crazy enough to try.

Adam Warlock in a live action movie! I'd like to volunteer for that part (even though I think a guy like Alexander Skarsgaard would be perfect) :faints:
Did we have a "cast the Guardians of the Galaxy" yet?

A-list or Z-list is completely irrelevent.

You make a genuinely good movie, get some big stars involved, you market it well with awesome trailers? People will come.

Name recognition doesn't mean ****. Did anyone ever hear of Jack Sparrow before Pirates of the Carribean? Of course not, he didn't exist. But now he's one of the most iconic characters in cinematic history.
