Guess What?! They're rebooting THE MUMMY!

The trailer without the sound effects is hilarious.

The Darth Vader spoof is like something Lucas would have done in his next version of the OT Special Editions. :hehe:

I have to admit the parodies for the trailer have been awesome.

Honestly, I was hoping for a straight-up mummy horror movie. It seems to go for a bit more serious tone than the other mummy movies with Brendan Fraser but will have to wait and see...

In the meantime, anyone have any great mummy movies to watch?
I saw this Asian movie streamed perhaps on Netflix a while back (can't remember name) about this professor finding a mummified body of a woman in a swamp. Needless to say, it didn't look too attractive nor would one want to go swimming in those murky waters.

This new mummy movie with Tom Cruise (wish they picked a different actor) seems more like a superpowered mutant from ancient Egypt revived in modern times sort of thing.

That was basically what Arnold Vosloo was in the Brendan Frasier films as well. Well, except for the "modern times" part of course.

Right. I remember seeing the first 2 in the theater a long time ago and wasn't too impressed after seeing the 2nd even moreso. Didn't see the Scorpion King movies or that Dragon Empire sequel they made in 2008 but can imagine it was more of the same.

This I'm still kind of looking forward to but just hope it's not still overly cheesy until "oh snap" a fashion model is walking down the runway (I mean street) with Mr. Tom Cruise saying with a fixed overly intense stare "I saw her".

To be fair, Sofia is no mere "fashion model." And her parts of the trailer DO seem to be more horror-esque. Tom Cruise seeing her in a darkened forest, and her being kind of shadowy. Following her with a metal pipe. That close up on her eyes while they do that, whatever the heck that is (and you can hear her kind of do an evil chuckle as well). And then her apparently decimating London.

Really you have two parts of this so far. The "action part" centered around Tom. And the "horror/creepy part," centered around Sofia. I'm curious to see if they can mess them effectively or not in the actual film.

Overall, I just hope they don't play up a romantic angle between Tom's and Sofia's character and horror > action this time around. From the trailer, I can see the studio is putting a lot of money into this I can see (the eye thing looked pretty neat on the mummy girl although not sure what that's about either).

Edit: Found some interesting anecdotes pertaining to the eye thing on the trailer. It appears polycoria is a very rare medical condition where the pupil diverges a bit (can google it and looks nowhere near like what's seen on the trailer). It seems the trailer is playing off the notion of "pupula duplex" ("evil eye") which is a superstitious notion brought up in various ancient texts with earliest known reference using this term in Pliny the Elders 77 C.E. "Natural History" although a similar concept does later appear in other cultures as well such as Chinese Minister of State, Liu Ch’ung (not so much an evil eye here though).

That scream has pretty much become a meme at this point.

doesn't help that Tom looks the same in all his movies

Seriously, when I saw Cruise in the plane, I thought it was Jack Reacher 3.

Here's where you can download it.

not asking for him to go all nic cage but atleast try to look different lol

I like action star Tom Cruise, but one often forgets he is a 3 time oscar nom nominee and his list of working with auteur director is pretty goddamn great. I have been waiting for him to do a more serious film for years now.

They are feeling the wrath of denying Brendan Fraser what is rightfully his

JUST

The saddest yt vid I have seen is Brendan Fraser doing interviews for some showtime show, the man is broken. Look it up.

Even as The Mummy, Sofia Boutella would get it.

Hell yes.

So is this a case of no such thing as bad press? I would think Universal can't be happy with this being the takeaway from the first trailer.

I want to know what Tom thinks of all this. Desperately.
