Guillermo del Toro's The Strain coming to FX - Part 1

For a season premiere it was a weak episode.

Solid 2 eps so far but I'm not gonna lie... I'm still salty over Nora's death. I'm glad they showed Dutch because I've been wondering what on earth happened to her and why she's not with the gang anymore. I quite like her. Also, why is Gus back with his mom?! I thought he's going to play a much bigger part...

Quinlan remains to be the most interesting character and Zack continues to drag it down.

Yup. Was he that bad in the books? :(

Oh I'm with you...I'm very upset still

Much better episode than the premiere. I like that we've seen about less than 5 minutes of Zack so far.

Nice first encounter between Eph and Quinlan. I've forgotten that they still haven't met yet.

Looking forward to next week's episode which seems to be focused more on Quinlan's past. More Quinlan, less Zack is a good thing.

Wth is Gus doing? I'm trying to remember if he had a run in with Kelly late last season. And perhaps that is why he feels his mom is still there and can be brought back too, somewhat.

One thing Im glad they cut from the show: the vampires ****ting when they feed. :funny: These books are like the complete antithesis to Twilight.

Don't really care for her. But yeah, she was pretty bad ass in her return.

Next week's episode was leaked and I couldn't help myself....

Awesome episode.

[Blackout]Eph & Quinlan's scenes together are comedy gold.

Quinlan or Quaintance's backstory was easily the most intriguing part of not just this episode but of this season. Hope to see more of it.

And that Eph (or whoever it was that just stood there while the sun was baking the master) is how you do it. Strike the master while he is stunned. Sure it didn't kill him but at least Quinlan didn't just stand there.[/blackout]

So...
The Master is still alive, right? That big worm got out. I just need Quinlan (aka the only thing that matters) to still be alive.

[BLACKOUT]That won't be the last we see of the Master. I'm betting Zach will be chosen as the next host.[/BLACKOUT]

The flashback of Zach's birth reminded me of something out of an 80s Cronenberg movie. Though it's rare I never knew babies could be delivered in a caul. I wonder if that's foreshadowing anything pertaining to Zach.

I'm also digging the flashbacks with Quintus. Looking forward to more dealing with his backstory as well as young Setrakian's.

As for Gus smh. He should've put what he believes is still his mother out of her misery long ago. Keeping her/it alive is what got him and Angel in the predicament they're in atm. And once again he manages to get himself locked up.

Throughout human history and in various cultures being born "en caul" is meant to be a sign of good luck for the child. Some cultures would even sell the caul. It was meant to bestow luck to the buyer. Similar to a rabbit's foot.

I'm pretty sure it didn't give Zack any good luck. :funny:

I hope it's not the case, a kid Master would be terrible and would alienate some fans, especially with this actor.
Same here, at first I thought the scene was Eph dreaming like in the ( deleted ? ) scene from The Fly and the birth of a larva baby.
Best parts were Quinlan's flashback for me as well.
Gus was lame but a son's love for his mother is strong.

Interesting, I really wonder what they're planning to do with the Master.

Book Spoilers:

He's clearly not dead, but he was never incapacitated like this in the books. He's having much more difficulty putting up with his plan. And since Nora's dead I imagine the show can really go anywhere now.

Yeah after Nora (ugh show :argh:), I really can't go by the books now.

Killing Nora was lame and a stupid move. They obviously didnt want a strong leading female around which sucks.

And then Dutch seems to be close to being written off. I really don't care about Zack's mom so that leaves us with Justine.

[Blackout]Setrakian should of killed mater worm instead of gazing at it[/blackout]

Gus and Angel unleashing momma Strigoi on the those clearing guys was cold blooded

Yeah I thought the same about Gus and Angel. Even worse is that they did it for nothing with Gus seemingly indifferent at the end to the fact his stringoi mother is most certainly dust now.

In relation to the Master:

Yeah, I'd agree that a kid master would be interesting but not with the actor they have. Hopefully someone else who can pull it off will fall victim to that tragedy.
