I kind of suspected something like this. The fact Del Toro is involved makes much more sense in that context too.

Joan's Husband (After seeing multiple vampires): Oh ****! Drive!
Cabbie: What is going on?
*Vampires surround the car and start actively attacking it*
Husband: Drive! For the love of God, drive!
Cabbie: *Blank stare* What is going on?
Husband: Why aren't you driving yet?!
*Vampire attacks directly at Cabbie's face, with face stinger, but hits car window*
Cabbie: I guess I should go outside then.

You aint lyin! That cabbie takes the numba one spot of dumbest idiot of the show from the wife who hung herself. Good god was that guy infuriatingly stupid.

I was surprised by those dudes in the hoods. Are they like good vampires or something? Pretty cool.

Kind of upset they wasted Aaron Douglas on the role of Joan's husband. He could have played a recurring character at least.

Well... Those last few minutes were interesting to say the least. Some new players in town that seem to be, umm... as extreme as Setrakian. Good. The show needs some characters that aren't either idiots, evil or ignorant.

I knew what Setrakian was building in the concentration camp was as soon as Eichorst singled him out. I really look forward to learning more about Setrakian and that bastard's history.

I do have to ask if the spread of situatinal stupidity or the like that has happened a little too much on the show was evident in the books? It's those moments that keep bringing an other wise promising show down for me. I'm hooked for sure, but this early phase of dumbas-itis running rampant almost makes me wonder if the good stuff outweighs the bad on the show. I will say, I am happy that there's no sugar coating these vamps. There's no attemp at cheap eroticism or trying to dance around what a vampire's true nature is: Being an immortal serial killer without pity or remorse. As long as that holds true more or less I'll be happy.

PS For book readers any chance there is an as yet unintroduced character my man Sam Witwer could play?

Yes! The introduction of them at the end of the new ep took the show up a notch for me, and having not read the books they were a real surprise. I wonder if Setrakian knows them.

Plot convenience, really. The writers can't think of a way to get to where they want to go without making the characters kind of step aside and allow it to happen, I guess.
