Being mentally ill doesn't mean they turn in to Rain Man and can no longer do the most basic of things.Your question doesn't even make sense in the context of mental illness. They are mentally ill precisely because they are able to actively devise ways to kill themselves, going against the very grain of the basic human instinct of survival. And being aware (or not being aware) of the impact of their actions on family members and friends has absolutely nothing to do with their cognitive ability to find ways to kill themselves. They are not mutually exclusive concepts in any way, so your "if...MUST" statement is completely inaccurate.

Errr what? My whole argument with you guys was that i find it selfish. I'll break it down for you. If someone, like you say, is sooooooooo mentally diseased that they don't want to continue living are you seriously telling me that they would completely forget about the pain it would cause to other people without actually realizing it themselves? BS If they have the mental capacity to put the pills in their mouth or actually want to kill themselves then there is no way in this world they wouldn't have the mental capacity to realize that people are going to be sad when they are gone.
