pretty much. in most states, the only way you can use any type of force on an intruder is if you're backed into a corner with nowhere to go and you are literally fearful for your life. Anything other than that, they'll tell you that you should have ran out the door and charge you with assault.

And I bet if the bastard who broke in charged you with assault you'd have no way to prove you were in any actual danger.
