Halo Halo 5: Guardians

I don't think so, at all. Especially after the events of Halo 4.

Chief wasn't boring.. Just a silent (for the most part) bad ass. For as "flat" as he was I'd take him as a character over someone like bawl baby Kratos. Plus Bungie doesn't write good stories. There is a reason ODST is the best over all story from the original series and that's because 343 wrote it.

Now it seems that with 4 and maybe 5 343 is going balls deep into the lore without really explaining it to anyone who may not have read every book or comic.

I'm expecting I'll like the game but I'll be bummed that we're not getting a direct continuation of 4 like I was expecting. At this point I fully expect hefty Chief DLC .. Maybe about the likes of ODST.. And I'll buy it because I'm a schmuck.

In regard to the MP.. I don't see it dying. Everyone that player the beta I know loved it and from what I've seen its gonna be great.

If we do get DLC, wont it be for free, or does the free DLC only pertain to MP?

The free DLC is MP stuff for a year. So.. I would t be shocked if they threw story stuff in there for a price.

If I'm in the UK will I be able to play this after midnight tonight (UK time)? I haven't bought a big game on release digitally before.

Ohhhh, they said for a year, I thought they said for the entire lifetime of the games MP.

But anyways, still cool about free DLC for MP, though. Hopefully I'll like MP, cause I didn't really enjoy the beta. But that had much more to do with how they structured the beta than the actual gameplay. We'll see...

I'd gladly buy it. Doesn't seem like scmuck-like behaviour if it's good. :woot:

Has anyone said a bad word about the multiplayer yet. I've been looking but failed to find anything so far. Pretty rare that at least one of the reviews doesn't say it fails to live up to past games or doesn't take things forward etc.

IGN said they don't know how they ever played Halo before (online) after playing this. The improvements are apparently great and make a difference. That excites me. I feel s lot of my time will be spent in Warzone.

Me too. What does Arena mean?

Arena style MP? Arena style refer to equal starts with no random elements. Just think about the original trilogies multiplayer.

Oh right. Sounds good. Can't wait to try all this. Gonna be super-disappointed if it's not awesome though haha.

I don't really mind that the story focuses more on Locke than MC, since I don't really have prior loyalty to the franchise.

however, it does seem like the story won't be as "accessible" to those who aren't already familiar with the lore and prior games. am I reading that right from the reviews?

I mean, this a game entitled Halo 5, as in the fifth mainline entry (technically seventh, if one wishes to count Reach and ODST as mainline entries) in a continuing story. Halo 5. I mean, it's kind of common sense since Halo's stories aren't all standalone.

that's true. but for some, this may be their first Halo game.

It may be, but I think there's some personal responsibility involved to realize you may not be able to 100% follow something when you jump into the fifth installment of it.

If someone wants to catch up without playing the previous entries (the campaigns were upgraded for the MCC so that would be a good way of doing it, on easy difficulty if necessary), could always wiki the plots or watch the cut scenes on youtube. But yeah as Tron says, this is kind of the deal for any game that has a load of predecessors. More so for primarily single player games.

^ oh, I'm not disputing that.

but I was just curious as to the "level" of accessibility for those new to the franchise.

some sequels are easier to jump into the story than others. some you really do feel lost if you have no idea what's going on before.

yeah, if I get this, I'll probably just wiki the story.

Keep in mind you CAN get the MCC for super cheap now. Plus if you want ODST is only five bucks.

oh, I have MCC. just couldn't bring myself to play it with Halo 5 so near.

but maybe I should......lol.

but I'll probably just wiki the story and get caught up.

Why not? Haha. I didn't realise you had the game. Could have just burned through it on easy difficulty.

Watching this chick play on Twitch and she is hilariously losing her **** trying to control her team.

Wait, what? What the hell? You didn't want to play the prior games in the series, yet you are concerned you might not be able to understand what's going on in the 5th main entry in this series? Am I reading that right?

yeah. it came with the 1TB MCC bundle.

but like I've said before, I'm not much of a FPS fan.

plus, I had other games to keep me busy like Dragon Age and Diablo 3.

I don't have a lot of time to play games, so I have to prioritize. with Halo 5 coming out soon, I figured I'd just jump in with that game.

I don't mind jumping into a story midway or peeking at the ending.

but as I said above, some sequels are easier to jump into than others without prior knowledge. you can pick up the gist of the story as you go along. or there may even be a quick recap at the beginning.

however, other sequels are pretty hard to follow or enjoy if you haven't been following the prior story.

and some sequels are relatively "self contained." Like Fallout 4 seems self contained, you don't have to play Fallout 3 or prior Fallout games to understand the story of Fallout 4.

so, that's what I was curious about.
