I saw the movie last night....

It wasn't bad at all.... it just wasn't great either. I agree the movie had less and less and less energy as it went on. It opened strong... with its best idea: a drunken superhero... and the more Will Smith's character reformed his bad act, the more boring he became... I found his reason for being a drunken a**hole to be...blah (awww, he's lonely and misses his fated wifey wife)... I wish it had been more complex than that... his internal dilemma was unoriginal/uninspired... if there's one thing about this "superhero genre" that I am really getting tired of it's that EVERY superhero seems to have ALL his/her internal conflicts stemming from a broken heart/love triangle/girl/boyfriend. Ugh... Im so bored with that. Cant there be one superhero who is single and is just fine with that and doesn't have his/her internal conflict revolving around a love interest???

Any ways, back to Hancock...

Jason Bateman was great. Will Smith was great. Charlize was great (though she hardly had much to do for half the movie).

All in all, so far this summer at the movies has just been.... ok....

Only Iron Man had me leaving the theater thinking "Wow, now THAT was an AWESOME time at the movies!" I am really picky with movies though and hard to please. I think Indy and the Hulk were both good but forgettable. Wanted was predictable and dumb. Zohan was ******ed.

umm not to defend the movie, but you do know Hancock became of a drunk just because he was the only super... it had nothing to do with a broken heart. the only one who remembered there relationship was Mary. If anything, she was the one with a broken heart

No, but you do call me a ****** for not liking the way the origin is explained. Not directly, but by generalizing everyone in that way, you did. Insulting people like that is "******ed" to me :whatever:

You didnt like how it was explained? You have Thero nsitting there saying this is where you came from who we are, why your the only one etc etc...how can you not like a simple striaght forward origin? That makes no sense.

And I've clearly backed up my arguments with explinations so how about you do the same, let here WHY you didnt like it and how you would have made it better.

Yes, his drinking and a hole behaivor has NOTHING to do with a broken heart, it has to do with the fact that he is the only one of his kind and does not know who he is, where he came from etc etc...which is actually very original and inspired.

As far as Hancock becomeing "boring" as he reforms well sorry but he dosent actually reform until the end of the film (which is one of the best scens in a movie let alone a superhero one) when he saves a certain someones life and truly becomes a hero.

Those would be predictions. Hancock made an estimated 18.8M on Friday. It isn't going to come anywhere near 68M for the weekend. Closer to 60M.
Estimates are usually pretty close maybe a one million of or something but 100 million is likely more then what people expected it would make this week and weekend.

At least they acknowledged it...!

That is probably the one thing that I hated the most, however it was not enough to make me hate the movie and act like a sissy girl about it.

WHY did they make His costume look so much like the X-Men's?! I mean its not like they couldn't have spent 2 more minutes brainstorming or bringing in some comic artists to draw up something.

THE SUIT looked like a bad X-Men Knock-off....something you would fine at a Comic convention.

Yeah. I didn't realize it until you mentioned it....hahahaa his kryptonite was being with a white woman... Though I think Charliez would be anyman's kryptonite. She was a hot MILF.

Yeah Charliez is fine as H*ll and can be my kryptonite any day! BUT yeah having a white woman being a Brother's achilles heel will become the punchline of many black comics' jokes!!!

Also, the fact that we did not get the whole back story, leaving more to be explained, in a possible sequel is a good touch. This movie is a great summer blockbuster and does MUCH to add to the Superhero genre, as we have not seen a movie like this before, IMO.

Will Smith is the KING of Summer Block Busters!!!

This movie was far better than Daredevil, HULK 03, and a few other superhero movies, and is a toss up IMO between TIH. Hancock just might be better for many parts and weaker for only some.

Well, as predicted, it underperformed. I feel bad for Peter Berg, but not that bad.

Anyone have a website about how much it took in so far?

Edit. Nevermind its on the main page.

Will Smith's return to the 4th of July weekend might not be the wham-bam blockbuster hit originally projected as Sony's superhero action flick Hancock opened with just $17.4 million on Wednesday after Tuesday night previews took in an additional $6.8 million.

It's not a terrible opening. In fact, it's in the Top 15 opening Wednesdays ever, surpassing the opening day for Warner Bros.' Batman Begins three years ago. Then again, it's just below the Wednesday opening of Will Smith's breakout hit Independence Day twelve years ago and about a million lower than the opening day of Smith and Sony's comedy sequel Men in Black II six years ago. A big difference is that with the 4th of July being on Friday this year, Hancock could follow the pattern of previous movies that opened on July 2, such as Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, in which case much of the movie's business will come on Friday and Saturday. Right now, we're projecting a three-day opening of between $62 and 65 million, which would make it the third or fourth biggest three-day opening for the holiday weekend behind Spider-Man 3 and last year's Transformers

Uuuh, I'd say that's pretty big, especially coming in third behind the juggernauts Spidey 3 and Transformers!

So basically it being the third largest opening is...a failure?

I Liked the movie! just needs a better villain and its perfect! Its better than superman return! Can't wait for the sequel. The fx were good. And shame on U WB!

" NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT " words of Will Smith.

Meh.

With all the hate and discontent being Spewed on Hancoc-k This post drags me back with a question:

What other "issue" would there be to generate this conflict/premise for the movie that could satisfy you?

I mean,.. I personally would be totally turned off by a "hero" who wouldn't be bothered with having no memory, being apparently immortal, and yearning strongly for someone they can't remember for almost a hundred years,... But for you this is just "Blah".

Meh,.. the world is going to he11 in a handbasket when folk can be so bored with legitimate reasons to have issues.

Meh a third time - people who probaly won't live over a hundred who have never had a soul mate deciding that the premise isn't strong enough.

Topic change:
I don't have the capabilities but if anyone could submit some outfit ideas for Hancock, other than what was used. I would like to see what you guys come up with.

I like the eagle theme, but it could have been used more notable symbol!

p.s. I like the costumes in Justice League Unlimited for the Justice Lords.

Saw the movie Friday. I loved it and saw it today. This is the most realistic take on a Superhero film to date. Imo its up there with Iron Man and Batman Begins with me. I read reviews saying theres too much cussing and the movie switches from comedy to drama. Which is something that seems whiney. Yes Hancock is a hybrid of Comedy and Drama with some action in there but it blends well. Yes Hancock has a load of cuss words, but thats life. We dont live in a G-Rated society. Is it necesary no, but its still there. What I love about this movie was that its Superhero in a real world. Its how people would react if we did have a superhero in our lives. You can also relate to how the Hancock behaves because most of us would go down the same path as Hancock. I look back at Superhero films like Spider-Man and Superman and realise how corny and tamed they are. Will Smith is the Man again. He actually made an A$$hole (dont kill me Hancock!) loveable. Jason Bateman is also hilarious and you also feel for his character. Charlize was ok too, nothing really stood out for me. Peter Berg is an excellent director who has a unique visual style to his movie which fits well with Hancock. This movie needs a sequal ; least one more. My only gripe is that I wish the movie was a little longer with more action in there. Here's hoping for an Uncut DVD! This has been a great year for movies and I cant wait to see what The Dark Knight and Hellboy II bring to the table.

9/10.

actually it's not... smallville did that theme for almost 6 seasons... clark just wasn't a drunk about it :o

Just came back.

Loved the first half. It's borderline fantastic. The second half is where it lost me. Too quick.

Your seriously going to try comparing Smallville to Hancock?

I bet you hated Unbreakable too and thought that was unoriginal/uninspired.....:whatever:

i'm one of the biggest will smith fans...from the first season of Fresh Prince, so i am slightly biased, and it has to be really bad for me not to like it (i'm looking at you WWW).

I really liked this film. i thought it was a lot of fun to watch, and i'm glad it's a superhero movie where they didn't have to worry about changing the source material or anything, although a lot of it did seem forced. there are some parts it didn't like.

Will Smith has a gradient of movies from great to mediocre to terrible. This i put along with i,robot...fun, big blockbuster, but don't expect oscar performances.

I would like to know origin of those two, even if i think i like that they didn't really go into it in the movie. i wouldn't mind picking up a prequel comic or something.

Now let's just hope Dragonball can at least match the f/x this flick had. They were doing **** in here I want to see Goku doing.

I forgot to mention it, but I loved the after-the-credits scene. That made the film ten times better to me.
