I think that the after the credits scenes have really been the icing on the cake this whole summer. IMO, this is the best summer for Comic Movies and blockbusters and I thought last year would be hard to beat, with Trans...and SpiMan3.

This movie was real and gritty to an extent and heartfelt. Yeah, it could've been longer, but hey it is what it is. Hopefully they will not d**k us on the DVD.

I am really getting tired of the Studios giving us wack DVD's and then trying to make 2 other special addition DVDs. Talk about loving the fans...

Any manips out there for different costumes.

Peter Berg usually releases pretty good dvds. I think the very best scene's in the movie had to be The train sequence, Awe the head up the inmates ass was well very funny, But the final hospital and Hancock flying to the moon scene was really good Will Smith acting.

I think Jason Bateman was fantastic....i like the whole "Good job" exchange between him and will smith

I loved Bateman as well. I notice one of the biggest complaints is that Hancock isn't a relatable character, which baffles me, because it was my view that Hancock being unrelatable was the point of the movie. Despite being titled Hancock, Bateman's character was the man you were supposed to relate to, to pull for, to sympathize with, etc.

Good to hear. I am tired of wack Comic book/Superhero movie DVD's with limited bonus material. Transformers was the biggest disapointment for me as far as the dvd goes.

Really if the studios were smarter they could charge like 25 for an additional 30 mins of film.

Will Smith's acting was very good. He stepped outside his usual reluctant hero persona a little with the cussing, and negative disposition.

If you didn't like the cursing or whatever go see Superman. He could use some more boyscouts!

I'm kind of surprised.

When I seen Smith in "I Am Legend" :

1. I loved the 1st hour or so of the film.

2. I loved that Smith's character was "alone" and "depressed"

3. When the female lead comes in, proving Smith's character isn't the "only one", the film goes downhill fast.

The exact same could be said about "Hancock". Great premise. Poor execution. But some decent scenes and Smith is still cool in my book. 6/10

Personally speaking, I could relate to 'Hancock' as a character a great deal, yeah, I've had my messed up times.
I saw it for the 2nd time time last night and still got a kick out of it, I wasn't sure what to expect 1st time round so was pleasantly surprised, not least by WS's performance, i thought he kept the scowl going pretty good.

One thing I noticed about a few negative reviews was that they're kind of similar to some that came out about 'unbreakable', in that they thought it was ridiculous when the hero's counterpart was revealed. I disagree, those moves worked in both movies imo, and stayed true to the internal logic of their universes.

Sure, Hancock could've been a stone cold clasic with more work, but I can live with what we got. I've been waiting on drunk superhero movie for a while to come along, I've tried to imagine how one would work for years.(someone pointed out that Cpt invincible movie to me, yesterday, I don't think it'll be too good, but will check it out.)

superman = hancock

kyrptonite = white women

ha ha gotta laugh

apart from hooking up with super-wife, kryponite also = booze

Thought it was interesting that he was just about to go back on the bottle when he got shot too, fate teaching him a little lesson maybe.

My problem with Hancock is that I cannot relate to him at all. I find guys that drink, etc. etc. and act like jerks repulsive in real life. I see enough of this antisocial behavior at work and I just wish these type of people would just spontaneously combust from all the booze they consume.

kinda like the super max story...interesting. is there someone you have in mind that the story (or something similar) could work for.

I absolutely meant Icon. Static was resurrected and enjoyed some popularity after the demise of Milestone, but DC did little, if anything to capitalize. This goes beyond my personal love of the comics medium, Will Smith could have easily taken an established African American hero and turned him into an A-list character that could headline DC events.

Also, unrelated...but why in the heck did it not occur to batemans character to put the All Heart logo on Hancock. The entire film this guy is trying to talk companies into using this logo to give it exposure, and it never occurs to him to brand it onto a superhero whos costume he designed.

I guess you have to understand what it is to have given up on yourself.

I think things that could have made hancock better would be if he still had to permanently serve time in jail and was a puppet of the city...

ultimately this would still make him a bum and keep the character pretty unchanged. One of the problems with hancock is that making him a generic hero kinda makes him the same as everyone else while if he is a relunctant hero who does good to take time off his sentence while putting people he puts down in the same space as him can cause some interest, especially if himself and charlize still decide to visit each other once in a while. It'd also be interesting to see what it would be like if they had a child who's daddy was a superhero behind bars and what kinda influence that would have on all of them.

I mean even though hancock wished to have a sense of belonging and self, even though he knows he was with charlize, he is still somewhat still alone and still can't remember his past.

I loved this movie . I really wish that this hero would be picked up by and have a regular comic series.

"puppet of the city" would have ruined it for me, zero character growth works for comics but if his hopelessness had remained at the end the movie would have been a roundabout way to go nowhere, or worse yet to tell the story of how a 'bum' became an indentured servant.

I can kind of agree with November on that issue... after the hospital scene, which I loved, I was like... are you serious? This is the new Status Quo? Like... for real?

That was by far more "preposterous" than Hancock not being the only one.

... and Hancock would have never worn the All Heart logo, nor was he meant to be empathizable to everyone... unless you've had some serious bouts with depression, you really don't 'get' Hancock, and that's why Ray is there, so you can hook into the film if your experience is more... milquetoast. :)

EDit:
100M+ you say? Go Hancock!

As for a sequel... they didn't set up for one right... Hancock is all happy and a normal superhero... Mary is all Happy and normal... he's all cool with Ray... the only solution would be to introduce a new god/angel/superhuman, or some other threat, perhaps a hero/god-hunter or something.

Another thing... Hancock seemed a LOT more like the Fresh Prince than any of Will's other characters. When he said 'coo coo' to Mary and was stabbing her with cooking forks, I halfway expected Carlton or Uncle Phil to come around the corner.

What do you mean he never would have worn the All heart logo???

He never would have stopped drinking. He nevr would have turned himself in, and he certainly would not have worn that stupid costume. Bateman talked him into all three. Adding the heart logo would have changed nothing. And Bateman CERTAINLY wanted Hancock to be cared for and relatable to everyone

And I have dealt with some pretty severe bouts of depression. I "got" what hancock was going for. I just wasnt overly thrilled with the film.

Well that would be fine because the character growth/interests would be in how everyone else views hancock

his ex
villains
city
his publicist.

he remains a constant yet the way he interacts with everyone either confirms or adapts their point of view on him and that's where its interesting because those points of views would conflict.

In real life not everyone feels teh same way about everyone else and getting to see this happen with a superhero is definitely something new.

even the simple conflict of a superhero behind bars concept is one to cause moral dillemmas.

To me I hope they do make a sequel. I think it is great that we have a new Black Superhero and I would love to see to see a sequel to this movie or have him picked up for his own comic series that is done much like Invincible where he has his own world to work off of and build around.

You know I would have loved for hancock to have been the initial recipient of the heart logo but his continual antics would have degraded it losing value for all the companies that originall signed up causing more grief for his publicist.

then after his moon thing would have been pretty sweet and see him ditching the costume and going back to his normal attire.

Theron explained why they were spending so much time with his publicist I guess. I could have done without the prison bit, it's just silly that they'd stick him in some regular jail. and though it got laughs, the head up the ass thing I could have done without seeing.
The Jail was a showing of good faith and a demo that he did do good.

Well,.. I kinda expected him to do that head up the butt thing after threatening to do this once before in the movie,...
Regular jail? Where else would they put him?

I was also uncertain about the Theron twist but I thought they followed it up well. I thought the rest of the movie they would be hiding it from Ray which is kinda cliche but I like how everything was put out in the open fairly early
Since He's the only "Super Hero/Human" there really isn't a prison "for him". And I feel that if the two had hidden the truth from Ray it would've been seen as Shallow for two beings who were thousands of years old.

Boy,.. for a flop,.. or worse yet a poor film that "panders to the masses" Hancock is doing reeaall good.

Yesterday it was gonna only make 60 mill, i wake up today and its up to 100 mill. What gives?

Meh,... The critics don't like it,.... The Public does.

The movie went in the direction that it was supposed to and needed to.

Having a Man grow in the end to accept his calling after all the strife, heartache, and depression is how films work. CLOSURE IS A MUST, AND WE GOT IT!

Hancock did not need to stay in jail anymore....he was there long enough, that would have been so dumb and anti-progressive to the story and plot.

The whole heart thing would've worked if there was a little all-heart placed on his sleeve on the suit. That could've been a little symbolic gesture made by Bateman.

The movie did not fall short as many have said and has left a lot to be covered in a sequel.

This movie did things that people honestly think of happening or wonder what it would be like if someone who had superpowers used them responsibly. The head up the ass, the car on the tower, the train, and little boy in the sky are all things that people would think about doing if the were pushed to the edge, or at least as*holes who are given reason to.

From the moment Hancock put on the costume he was seen as a hero, therefore it would not have devauled the All Heart logo. Bateman had 2 things he believed in...Hancock being turned into a respected hero, and All Heart. The human brain would have connected the two and he would have put the logo on Hancock suit. Heck, he even had a big PR meeting where everyone wanted to discuss Hancock and he used that to promote All Heart...if Hancock had been wearing the logo it would have been an easy sell.

Bottom line, the movie ignored sense and human nature so they could do a gag about the moon.

I thought the all heart thing was a final thank you (goodbye?), now I'm off to do my own thing... thing? I think I need to sleep.
