The movie was a mess. I was enjoying all the scenes when Hancock was a drunk and being destructive, but when he went straight, it just got boring and the film lost its identity. It didn't know what kind of movie it wanted to be, so it seemed like there were three little films in one big one. Will Smith was good, along with Theron. The stuff with the bank robber was poorly handled and the twist seemed to be unnecessary. I thought it was kind of stupid. The story itself seems to be a great concept, but I thought it was executed rather poorly. Sorry, I usually write better reviews, but whatever.

4/10

I have a lot of the same observations, but came to very different conclusions. Having three little films in one didn't strike me as a bad thing in any way. The movie changed its identity, and I enjoyed the ride. The fact that the actors were good is a big deal to me. I agree that the bank Robber was a weak storyline, but it was brief, fleeting and hardly even a full sideplot.

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I didn't like the movie until his past came up. Once everything came out I thought the movie got immensely better. I hope that they make a sequel, because I really want them to explore the whole god aspect and what they are further.

I liked that aspect of the story myself. Made the film less generic.

Hopefully a sequel or prequel can be made on film (or at least in comic book form).

well thats very good that they cut out the naming of gods they represented then.

Even if they were still in there though, it wouldnt have bothered me or effected my enjoyment of the movie, its all about interpretation, its fiction after all.

he was coming and going (as in he wasnt always hanging around mary 24/7 in present day. and he still had immense strength because of that (that was my point i was saying). And your stating the obvious ;) i dont think you understood the point i was making lol.

But the 2nd half of the movie he spent a lot of time with Mary, and it obviously effected his powers, but he still didnt lose them completely.

Its called interpretation. Its an ok thing to do especially with most fiction. Im sure over millions o years of passing on these "stories" and translating them to however many languages, certain details get lost or changed

Exactly, its like a legend, it changes over the generations no matter what, its the same with superheroes, i would have liked it if the movie implied that Hancock was responsible for the birth of superheroes, which are basically today's Gods/Legends. I had no problem with how they explained the story at all.

Agreed, some form of backstory would be extremeky welcome.

well i don't really think there race can perminantly lose there powers... but i would assume the longer time spent with someone the longer it takes to get there power back. After all he began losing his powers by spending more time around her. and that took a while to kick in.

No one has been talking about the obvious power levels / increases of Hancock:

He's able to TRAVEL to the moon - 239000 miles, Etch a symbol at least 3000 miles in Diameter, COLOR IT RED ENOUGH TO BE SEEN FROM EARTH,... Then fly back.

The powers he would need to pull this off:

1. No need to breathe / ability to hold his breath FOR HOURS.

2. Super Speed on a level not shown in film.

3. Invulnerability on a level not shown on film. (The radiation on leaving the Van Allen belts, and the protracted stay in the solar wind and the lack of Air Pressure?)

Easy dodge: As he flew higher and grew farther from his other - he continued to get more powerful?

So if Hancock left our Solar System,... he would be a GOD everywhere he went.

personally.. i felt the moon thing was really dumb... id rather him just have some kinda super powered laser vision or something, i dont think anyone even thought about how he coulda put the damn thing on the moon when making the film

... but the moon isnt out of our solar system?

??
My point was the feats,... and my explanation taken to the extreme of him leaving our solar system and being that far away from her - he would be God-like.

Whatever...The movie was crap. Will Smith has officially sold out now. No, I do not enjoy Chick Flicks...No I am not hating...Yes, I have fun at the movies...and Yes, I am a macho-type of a real manly man...But I respect everybody opinion, even the metrosexuals on this board.

Do you make a point of visiting in here every day to say the movie was crap? You respect others' opinions yet when you debate over it you say the movie sucked:whatever:

I liked it. I thought Smith was good and I liked the origin.. I might have liked to see some more heroics once he'd gone straight and the cgi when he broke through the highway sign looked pretty bad.. but I enjoyed it. Although, I couldn't tell if it was implied the bank robber villain knew about their 'race' and that he was becoming mortal.. otherwise how would he knew he would be able to go after and hurt him

Hancock was taken to the hospital and that is where the bad guys showed up at. I am sure they heard it on the news. But this movie was pretty evident that it was chopped up to bits:o

Although, Hancock grows stronger as he gets farther away from his significant other, I think that there may be a limit to his power eventually as to not make him omnipotent. However, he would still be powerful beyond belief and imagination.

The whole heart on the moon was a nice touch IMO. Yeah it would take great feats to pull it off, but hey we've seen Superman do some incredible things, LET a BLACK SUPERHERO be more powerful than the boyscout for a change.

Everyone is always going on how powerful Superman is and nobody can beat him and is stronger, it is nice to see a different super powered being get some respect for a change and wear the crown.

The movie was good....get over it. Yeah a lot was cut out, and at times it seemed rushed and under-explained, and there were some moments where you are just like huh? But the movie as a whole was a nice summer blockbuster! QUIT looking for some deep meaning.

overall i wasnt too displeased with hancock.... looked like it would have been better by the trailers but the movie was funny and had some okay actions sequences....

Finally saw Hancock. Wasn't great, wasn't horrible. It was in the middle for me.

I went into knowing what was going to happen after reading all the spoilers. The only main problem I had, was the handling of the Mary/Hancock situation. I guess in my mind, they could have done better, and from what I read about the fight between them I thought that was goin to be different. Now I saw why they were fighting and that he was just tryin to talk to her.

The first 3rd of the movie was fun, grand, and exciting, but towards the end it kinda felt rushed. But overall, I did enjoy this film

Lols. I almost spilled my coffee last morning when I was going thru the days paper and saw the ad for Hancock. It had all these quotes from critics (as usual), saying the normal somewhat positive stuff. Then there was the "...paska leffa..." -quote. God I laughed! What a ballsy move from the distributor! "Paska leffa" literally translates to "s***ty flick". :woot:

Here's the pic, though 99.9% of you don't understand anything of it.

It certainly tells something about the movie if even the distributor doesn't like it. :woot:

Or maybe they put it as a joke in there. But the review is real where they've taken it.

IF the distributor made that. It might be the newspaper (Finland's biggest...) itself, as the "paska leffa" review is theirs.

Yea without translations that means nothing to 99.9% of us as you said. Knowing that, you only laughed at it without explaining it for us...COME ON MAN!!!!

Then again when's the last time you saw a decent finnish superhero flick? Or superhero?... Hmm off to wikipedia.

:whatever:That sounds like something a closet homosexual would say, a real manly man wouldnt have to say he was one he plainly just wouldnt give a ****.

He did explain it. "Paska leffa" means s**** (or crappy, if you will) flick. I'm just suprised how that kind of comment got on the add! :D
