Satire doesn't HAVE to be humorous.

Burton comments on and ridicules the self absorbed and greedy yuppie culture of the 80s by using Joker as a villain who uses peoples self absorbed and greedy nature against them. That is satire.

I never said its purpose was humor, I said satire usually achieves its purpose of self-ridicule by expressing it in a humorous or sarcastic way. You want perfect examples of satire? Watch American Psycho or Dr. Strangelove. Not B89.

I'm glad you fixed that, because there is a huge difference between "not many people realize B89 is a satire" and "the Joker's plot has satirical elements". Just because Iron Man has elements of humor does not make it a comedy. Just because The Godfather has elements gun violence does not make it an action movie. Just because the Joker's plot has elements of satire does not make B89 a satire.

B89 wasn't a complete out and out satire, but it certainly wasn't a completely straight film either.

See I think it is VERY clear that Burton intends Joker's plots to be satirical. He is basically saying "Hey all you yuppies out there! You are pricks and your greed and self obsessed attitudes will be your downfall!!". He shows this by having Joker's plots revolved around the superficial things that embody that time period. Poisoning the make up. Handing out cash to lure people to their deaths. It's CLEARLY satire IMO.
