The new spawn comics are more around heaven and hell i think less about superhero and villans so still remains why are other superheroes like Green Hornet and Green Lantern are getting time. But no one touches the darkness we know as Spawn
Has anyone seen "The Devil You Know: Inside the Mind of Todd McFarlane"? I remember watching it a few years ago and thinking the music was ridiculously awesome.
Spawn comics where great i collected them in graphic novels but love them another movie begs to be made.
they are more mythological then the straight actioner movie and the characters are far more interesting Colglistro isnt that great in the movie (the great nicole williamson, merlin in excalibur was a huge letdown) but in the comic he is great and possibly the best female character created in the last 20 years, Angel Angela (who is a beatiful freelance bounty hunter from Elesium,an all female angel, version of heaven!) is something that begs to be put to screen.
One thing the movie got right though was John Leguizamo as Clown/violator he is easily one of the best comic creations put to screen ever imo i would bring him back for any movie made.
omg everyone is thinking about the 90s film.it was the 90s so lets think about that #1 for a film like Spawn you need CG most 90s films had crappy CG unless you were Jurassic Park #2 superhero films didnt get really get better until Spider-man so now that The Dark Knight has come out they also can have substance. So if a Spawn film where to come out now it would involve more religion most likely with angels and demon fights. So yea had its chance but it was the 90s.It can truely be taken serious now with our advances in CG and the genre. Its like comparing The Dark Knight to Power Rangers or something.
I also think that Spawn just represented a change in comics in the 90s. so it's very symbolic of that movement into darker characters and the birth Image Comics.
At the sametime, Spawn hasn't really gone anyway. Image in many ways, have all moved on and Spawn is just..there. It's as hip as POGS and being 'X-Treme' at this point, but it left it's mark in comic books however. At least it's better than Youngblood or whatever Rob Leifeld created throughout the years.
Spawn reminds me on how the original Mortal Kombat when it first came out. It was dark and edgy, and new. But when you look at the Mortal Kombat games now, the series no longer have that impact because every game now is either dark or bloody. So whatever made the games special in the 90s are gone now as time went on.
I love Spawn. I'll admit, I havent read any of the comics, but Ive flippe through them and watched a little of the cartoon. And I actually didnt mind the film, I loved some of the effects.
Hopefully Todd doesnt direct this or be exec producer cuz Spawn as a horror movie is **** but do like Spawn with a mature theme not the typical Superhero vs. Supervillian.Spawn vs. the world sounds better lol
Exactly and they have to put his plasma gauge thingy the meter that shows how much ectoplasmic power he has left and which reduces every time he performs feats of higher maagic (i remember it diminishing considerably when he brought someone back to life) when it reaches zero the maleboglia takes his soul.
Spawn the comics is far deeper then non comic readers can imagine a film could be the ultimate sci fi fantasy movie.
But isnt Spawn his creation? He should have something to do with it.
Yes he probably be involved at some stage but my big fear is wether Angel Angela will appear she was created by Niel Gaiman and i seem to remember a legal dispute between him and Mcfarlene which Gaiman won
The HBO animated series was great from what I remember. The movie? Not so much. Mcfarlene always came off as a jerk to me. In interviews he always seemed very arrogant. He acted like he was the creator of something astounding. The only thing he created was extreme violence. Which is probably why I liked Spawn as a kid but could give 2 ****s about him now.
yea he did seem very sure of himself in the interview i linked but i wonder why the guy who made half of marvel characters doesnt.but im happy it being just hope they get a director that wont just make it a typical superhero film
I want to forget a lot of stuff spewed from the 90's, including Spawn.
Devilman, Hellboy, Hellsing - that's what I want to see. BTW: I watched Clive Barker's "Book of Blood". Not very exciting, but still a decent horror story. When the Cenobites come back on screen, then the pleasure and pain begins.
