Have any films made you like certain characters?

Agreed with anyone saying Guardians of the Galaxy, and Gwen Stacy.

Add The a Flash after watching the TV show, never though much of the character before but love him after watching the show.

Agreed. That was probably the best TV show. Whilst people say DD is the epitome of superhero TV shows, I thought the Flash was more fun and emotional. The season finale had me in tears a couple of times.

Well, lots of characters. I think the biggest surprise for me was Thor. He was so bland and useless to me... until 2011.

Haven't watch all of DD yet so don't want to comment, loving it so far though, but yeah, The Flash is amazing and it was capped off by an amazing finale that ended the series perfectly. And yeah, the finale had me I tears a few times as well.

My only worry is that the actual Flash movie won't be able to match it. But yeah. The show has made me want to read Flash comics now for the first time ever.

Iron Man has made me like him more, but I still am not a fan of his. Man of Steel definitely made me like Superman a lot more, especially since that piece of crap Returns did nothing for me as a child.

I'd say Cap and Black Widow after CA:TWS.

I was completely indifferent towards Cap prior to WS. That movie turned him into my second favourite Avenger, after Thor.

Yes.

Cap and Black Widow. I never read their comics and barely knew who they were before the movies.

This isn't a movie, but I never cared for Daredevil before the show came out. That Affleck film certainly didn't get me interested in him, lol.

Thinking about it a little, I had no knowledge or interest in Wolverine before the movies.

^ Ditto. I should have put him on my list.

Until he was played so appealingly by Jackman, I had little interest in him.

Gwen, she has been dead for so long that I kind of forgot about her then we get Emma Stone and damn, I really miss Gwen now and wish MJ was dead instead.

MOS gave me interest for both Superman & Zod.

Cool thread !

Okay, here goes

1) the Guardians of the Galaxy: until the film I didn't give a rat's ass about them. I remember Gamorra and Thanos, because I was a fan of Adam Warlock back in the 70's, but since then I didn't care about them at all.

At a glance I was pretty skeptical about a talking raccoon and a walking tree, but the GOTG film made me love them. I have an old Star Lord comic, drawn by John Byrne and written by Chris Claremont (possibly one of the greatest writer/artist teams ever) and Star Lord is still boring - the film made him cool.
Hell, I hated Yondu in the comics, he looked like a blue rooster, but the movie version was awesome ! I loved Michael Rooker as Yondu, he could carry a movie to himself.

2) Thor: I enjoyed Thor during the 80's Simonson run, but went off him quickly after that. Didn't like him much in the first Thor movie, and in the Avengers films he's pretty much a bit of moving furniture who has the occasional line of dialogue, but in Dark World, I found him a lot more likeable and funny - and while Hiddleston is great as Loki, in Dark World he doesn't completely steal every scene he's in with Hemsworth (which is saying a lot, as he pretty much steals every other scene he's in).

3) Captain America. I HATE Captain America, I have always despised the character, but Winter Soldier was such a good film that I could actually sit through a whole Captain America movie. Chris Evans made Cap tough but likeable-ish.

4) Nightcrawler: Found him kind of lame in the comics, but in X2 (and this is saying a lot, as I'm NOT a fan of Bryan Singer's work), he steals the movie with his attack on the White House.

5) General Zod: Pretty much thought he was just a dick, but Shannon's portrayal and Goyer/NOlan's characterization made him a much better character.

6) Ra's Al Ghul: vastly preferred Nolan's version, makes a lot more sesne.

7) Hawkeye: kind of liked him as a comic book character, really liked the movie version.

Just a thought dude, you could do another thread for "movie versions of comic book characters that you hated!" for movie versions of characters that made them less likeable.

Oddly enough, the X-Men movies made me like Wolverine. I always hated him in the comics for whatever reason. But Jackman's portrayal was pure gold.

Conversely, I HATED the way the films portrayed my favorite X-Man, Cyclops.

Yeah, Cyclops, probably one of the most important X men was relegated to the least important corner of a love triangle.

I reckon Marsden would have been a good Cyclops, if he'd been given more screen time. The best Cyclops/Wolverine exchange was:

W: "Hey, it's me" C: "Prove it" W: "You're a dick !" C: "Okay" grins.

I haven't really followed the Xmen much in the last few years, but I like the way that Cyclops has really come to prominence with the whole schism thing.

I remember the classic issue ( # 175) back in the early 80's, drawn by Paul Smith, where Mastermind convinces the rest of the team that Cyclops is Dark Phoenix and he has to take them all down without hurting them.

He's probably Marvel's most underrated character - IMO the X Men have never felt complete without him (even when they had Havok).

The marginalization of Cyclops is one of the reasons why the X-Men will always be a distant 3rd in terms of franchises with me. I'd love to see Cyclops front and center but Wolverine has always been the most popular.

Totally feel your pain here. Cyclops was always my favorite of the most mainstream X-men.

Yeah, it sucked in the Last Stand it was Wolverine who was the main love interest for Jean/Dark Phoenix - ugh ! For me that story is THE ultimate
X-Men story (well except maybe "God loves, Man Kills" ) because it's about everything that make the X-Men great. When Jean dies in the comic, you feel the character's pain, most of all Scott's. Ah, those were the days.

I love Wolverine, but that story doesn't work anywhere near as well when he's the love interest.

Anyway, while I kind of gave up on the X-Men (although I did really enjoy X-factor, which reunited the original X men, that was a really fun book - for a while), the issues I have read where he takes on a really commanding role have been great - I loved that series where he was in prison.

Let's hope he gets a bit more play in the next film.

Yeah, marginalizing Cyclops is awful.
As much as I enjoy the films, Cyclops needed more to do.

I've become a big Captain America fan as a result of the movies. Writing, acting, directing, and production designs have reversed certain preconceptions and opened my eyes up to a lot about the character I didn't know. He's my wife's and my favorite character in the MCU right now, and I think is building the strongest string of films, even over the actual Avengers films.
