Have you ever been in a protest?

 so basically you're saying that blockading an avenue (one of the busier ones in Mexico City) isn't that bad because hey "compared to six years at a national level" it's not that bad?
suuuure, you do know that Obrador was part of the PRI before Joining the PRD? you know that he also has a lot of the people that Salinas De gortari (responsible for the biggest loss of the peso against the dollar in the history of Mexico) had on his staff?

say who was responsible for the **** that Fox had to deal with?

that's right PRI the rightiest right party that ever righted, yet now he remakes himself as some sort of Leftist man of the people because he talk like he just got of the shrimp boat?
yeah, you're right it is like Bush/Gore, except instead of a Texas accent he uses a "costeno" accent, big deal.
Fox lost jobs? sure, he's not a messiah, but he was far better than anything the PRI offered in the last 70 years. he also reduced estreme poverty (the only one to do that in a while BTW) and made so that Homes where more affordable to the people, also reformed healthcare.
you really think that he was going to clean up 70 years of corruption in 6 years?

bah! protesting is great, but blackmail is just that. remember UNAM? closed for a year because people, like the ones blockading the avenue today used the exact same reasoning as you do now.
Ok, this thread started asking if some of us have participated in some kind of protest, and becauuse i dont want to change the subject anymore, im going to "agree" with you in something. Blocking Reforma is wrong, i agree with you, instead of make a stronger movement, it weakeness, and the people agains Obrador knows it and are using it against him, on the other hand, i dont see the blackmail, the only thing he asked was VOTE BY VOTE, nothing else; and also dont trust everithing the media says, less in Mexico, with 2 families at the head of the 2 most important Tv companies

meh, i never asked you to trust the tv news, whatever dude, but you frankly seem like the type that support this because that's what a leftist should do, not because you actually know the reasons. frankly I get my news from TONS of places, I seldom If at all watch televisa or azteca (mostly canal once for my news) and read reforma, universal, proceso, etc.

again. whatever when the dollar shoots to 15 or 16 pesos you'll understand.

Im participating in the marchs here in Mexico City against electoral fraud and the imposicion of a non legitimate president, that is right now august 2006

We were 2 millions the last time we walked throught Reforma (a very important Mexican avenue), So like Kainedamo says, its a big moment of pride, and to stand for what you think its right.

Here's what I think.
I want what's best for Mexico, not just Mexico City.
Mexico City ≠ All of Mexico, but the people of that city want to impose their will over 2/3 of the country.

Yeap, when the dollar goes up like in 94, when Gortari left the goverment, (an ilegitimate president by the way;) )ill give you the reason. Until then...

Good news. We rounded up some hobos, poured the new oven-cleaning formula in their eyes and only ONE of them went 100% blind!!!

I took part in the massive Anti-Iraq war protest. I was in Philadelphia, in a smaller group that wasn't drawing any news attention. Out of nowhere we got hit with tear gas. In the confusion I just kinda stumbled around, and then what felt like a rock nailed me on my left shoulder. I looked towards where it came from and saw a cop reloading another rubber bullet into his gun. I started running, but about 20 feet down the street I saw a girl trip and fall. I didn't want her to get trampled so I stopped to help her up, and got hit in the back of the knee with another rubber bullet. Eventually I managed to get back up and get away.

I took part in the protest for both of the reasons listed. I really thought we could convince them to rethink the rush to war, and I wanted to be able to say I tried to do something about it.

I guess I can sort of respect that. But there was nothing anyone could've done short of assassinate Bush, Cheney, Rove, Wolfowitz and Rumsfeld.

Keep in mind that I was a Freshman in High School at that point, and somehow less jaded than I am now...

My dad took me and my sister to an anniversary "March On Washington "
*not technically a protest, but it was still pretty cool

Smoke-In, a few times in DC,only because I was young and dumb and thought it was cool to be able to smoke pot on the open on Independence Day. I didn't really think anything was going to change, just buy some cool stuff and hang out

Some gay and lesbian march in DC,no one should be discriminated against and the music was pretty good :o *not gay,but I hate hate

Free Tibet Concert-cause I liked the bands,is that a protest;alright guess not :O

Free Tibet march to the Chinese Embassy in DC,my friend wanted to go and wanted me to tag along. Things elevated slightly and I was ready to crack some skulls, somebody was playing Public Enemy and that was all the prompting I needed :o

Sort of ... back in the 7th or 8th grade over that Prop. 187. A paper was going around calling for a walk-out. The paper came to me and I drew on it. Then I passed the paper.

Everyone who was down with it met at the center of track field. A couple of ppl were planning to hop the fences but the cops surrounded the place. Bell rang and everyone walked to class. Pretty weak protest.
