Have you ever been "the only one" in an environment?

I was the only one in a wheelchair in my high school. I was very self-conscious at first but most everyone I went to school with were cool and never made a big deal of it.:yay:

i was the only white girl on the basketball team my senior year.

it didn't bother me, i had a blast with my teammates. i hung out with all kind of ppl so i don't think i ever really felt uncomfortable.

but it was hilarious because my school was probably mostly black, and when i would score in the game, especially 3's, the crowd would go crazy cuz i was "the white girl" lol.

Only male on the cheerleading team [and in the school, as well as our school's division, which was four schools] at the last high school I attended.

I'm also the only white male on the college team I'm on... Just to push that further.

And the only athlete in my theatre company. I guess that counts.

I was also the only white-male teenager in my position at work.

But there as been a sudden increase.

*there were no white-female teenagers either. Still don't think there are.

I'm the ONLY male in my position at work.

And the abuse the **** outta that.

Hence why I'm leaving.

Not just for a one time thing, but either in school, at work, etc. Are you or have you ever been the only male, only female, only white guy, only black guy, only gay guy, etc. at functions, events, or the aforementioned work or school? Did you feel perfectly at ease, uncomfortable, or what? The little team group I work with here is pretty much all white guys, and we're cool and what not, but they make sure to note I am the "black guy" in the group, whenever things like rap or "urban slang or culture" is brought up or used.

Last semester
I was the only hispanic im my class. I didn't even notice until my friend told me. It was cool, every one treated me cool.

All of my friends are Filipino and Chinese. I'm the only black guy.

That happens to me, my friends are all white and they sometimes have to point out the fact that I'm the only black dude.

In 2005, my friend and I were looking for something to do on St. Patrick's Day. So we decided to go to this bar in Indiana (where he lives). We get to the door and a girl ask for ID, he gives her his and I give her mine yet she double checked mine, as if it wasn't me on the picture (what kind of crap is that?). So we get in there, and it's literally like on of those moments when the record stops; he had on orange (while everyone was in green) and I was the only black guy in the entire bar, not to mention it was crowded. We were in there for 10 seconds and left out.

LOL, I respect all the white people that go to black functions, cause you have some balls to stand out like that. Us darkies are used to being the only one in a group of youse guys. :o

I was the only white guy in a street in New York once.

I was walking around, and it just sort of gradually occured to me... I'm surrounded by black people... no white people in sight. In that moment, I had seen more black people than in the rest of my entire life.

I was almost the only white Canadian kid at my catholic school. I became best friends with a black kid in kindergarten. Everyone else was Phillipino or Irish, i didn't really like them. But I did know this Asian/Jamaican kid. He was cool.

Very often.
I'm either the only female and/or the only black person.

It seems like I'm the only kid at my high school who doesn't do drugs or drink just because I don't want to, not because of the fact that Jesus wouldn't want me to, or because I'm a social recluse, or because I'm too scared.

**** you high school :(

Whenever I go cowboy action shooting, I'm the only teenager there -- everyone else is an adult.

Jesus was actually one of the ultimate partiers. Everywhere the guy went it was a party. Remember, he didn't turn wine into water, he turned water into wine. Now that's a guy I want to party with. The man also saw visions all the time. Can you say, 'shrooms? Hallucinigen? He was the ultimate stoner in the chill mode all the time.

When I think of Jesus, I think of The Big Lebowski.

Growing up a large majority of my friends were black (or asian) so on many occasions I'd go out with a group of 5 or 6 or more friends and be the only white person among us. It has always been cool though. Those guys are my best friends so I have never have any problems. It's been that way all my life. Im also dating a black girl right now so sometimes I'll be with her when all her friends come around. but in sort I guess I've never felt uncomfortable.

my best friend is black. i was the only white person at her birthday party, the baby shower, and the only white person in the group when her son was dedicated.

i'm also the Godmother. her mother just refers to me as the albino daughter lol

Um...That is what I was going to say. Are a perm-Handi, or was like a broken leg or something.

I was the only Black guy in the theater when I went to see The Hoax.. :p

I'm probably the only Black guy in my neighborhood that listens to Nonpoint.. :p

I have been the only white guy in a lot of situations-basketball teams, at the theatre watching "white men cant jump" and so on.
Plus, at any bar, party, etc I am the only one not drinking.

Everytime I hang out with my friends I'm the only non-smoker.

Yet 90% of the time I'm the only one with a lighter. Funny world.
