I don't want to get too bogged down with minutia. I can't think of anything that really stood out and made me say "what the hell is happening right now?". It was all pretty straightforward, and they did a good job at contextualizing things.

I guess the one thing left unanswered for me was the secret Duncan refrained from telling Teela. Reading through this thread seems to suggest that he was going to tell her that the Sorceress is her mother. So... that clears that up.

Yeah the lore bible of the original show which was also developed to guide the toyline ALWAYS had Teela as a prominent character with deep connections all over.

The mini comics and some early ancillary stuff have way different origins but by the time Mattel gets serious about where all the history and characters stand the general idea is that she is the daughter of the Sorceress, found by a young Man At Arms who was led to her by the Sorceress in her Zoar the falcon form very shortly after Adam is born so the two are the same age and grew up together celebrating the same birthday.

Who the father is has been a subject of debate. The 2002 show was going to give a definitive answer (Spoiler... It was supposed to be Duncan's brother which explains I suppose why Duncan was chosen to be her father.) but it never got to do the reveal they wanted due to being cancelled.

The lore bible says Sorceress requested that Duncan raise her as he would a son or someone he would wish to replace him as Man At Arms, which was originally intended to be a title passed down in a familiar line. The role was intended to be that of the handful of Eternians that had kept faith with the old ways which melded the ancient mystic ways of battle with technology and had some inkling of the legend of Grayskull castle. Thus Duncan served as both trainer to both Adam and Teela as well as a sort of Q, creating weapons and vehicles that combined magic and science (Seeing a theme yet?) for the heroes.

Teela was always a badass, ascending to Captain of the royal guard's at Eternos palace on the same day Adam is taken to Grayskull and given the sword. It looked like she was heading down the path to replace Duncan who loves his daughter very much, but the hints from the Sorceress indicates what Teela is really being prepared for is to replace her mother as Keeper of Grayskull.

So she's been a very central figure in the mythos from the jump but this aspect was always in the background in the classic show. Acknowledged, given a spotlight once in awhile but the ball wasn't moved forward all that much. Frankly it is the juiciest ground for drama and conflict so kudos to Smith for giving it such focus.

I enjoyed the first part more than I expected. REALLY liked the expanded lore and character developments for many characters. Orko became very likable until... Great voice acting, solid animation. I see Part 2 focusing on Adam more. Roboto was completely unknown to me other than seeing the action figure in stores. The cable channel that aired the show seemed to only show the same episodes over and over again, so many of the characters like Triklops and Roboto were never shown. Neither was that Sorceress is Teela's mother. I'm guessing that is the secret Duncan and Adam know. She'll definitely throw a hissyfit for them keeping that.

I still need to watch it. August is a long month, maybe I will finally take the plunge. It's just so up my alley from everything I have seen/heard.

I maintain that if you like Avatar, you should watch She-ra. The animation isn't quite up to Avatar's standards, but the writing easily rivals what was done in Avatar. Honestly, I'm kind of surprised at how much my recent rewatch reignited my interest in MOTU.

I am really curious at what the episode order they received for this. As that will be a good indication of how much of the story we have already gotten

Also, not gonna lie, I may be tempted to get a Tri-clops figure in the Revelation line. His post time skip design just makes me laugh....

I liked that the towers and surrounding tracks suspended in the air in the afterlife looking like the Eternia playset from the 80s toyline, and the opening scene with paintings that looked like the said toyline's packaging artwork. Oh I see that Kevin's daughter had a part in the series but I never head her I take it she is gonna be in the 2nd half of season 1?

Honestly, everything I have seen so far kind of indicates it's only 10 episodes. Which if that is true feels... odd. But that is what they said about Korra as well, and eventually it got more. Though that of course messed with the storytelling for season 1 and 2 of that series.

My review for "Land Of The Dead".

This was the stongest episode in terms of writing and character.

First off... I'm sorry I'm still very unclear on Scare Glow... Is he Skel's ghost? But he served his purpose well and Todd was in fine form. Loved the call back to the the Shadow Beasts and THIS version of Orko I can get behind... And just when I warmed to him he's gone which... Easy come, easy go I suppose. The Lyn and him stuff was working though. I would have loved to have seen that relationship, which, never would have come to me as a kid develop. I should have know like with LOST, when you get character's back story they aren't long for this world, am I right @Perfect Cell?

Still need to know what is Beastman's loyalty to Lyn based on? What's his deal?

So Teela's got a lot going on but it makes sense to see how she is dealing with things. And man, the hints about her true nature are coming at a good clip.

Now, as for that ending cliffhanger... I was NOT expecting Adam to show up in the "heaven" of Preternia but IF Scare Glow was a shadow of Skeletor in hell then an Echo of Adam being in Preternia tracks.

I was hoping that the show would've expanded on what we learn of Scare Glow in the prequel comic, where he's shown to be a contemporary of King Grayskull's. This would have at least established that he's a fairly long-lived character. But not only does it appear to shy away from the king's more direct ties to Castle Grayskull, it also contradicts a couple of other details shared in the comic.

Whatever the case may be, I still think that Glow is an entity unto himself, mysterious relation to Skeletor notwithstanding. That Todd lends his voice to the character (when the showrunners could have just as easily gotten Hamill to do it) gives him a relatively distinctive feel IMO. But then again, this being a cartoon we're talking about here, a number of things could account for Skeletor's ghost taking on a somewhat unique persona. So, it's hard to say what's what really.

Enjoyed it for the most part. Don't really like SMG as Teela. Serviceable but not all that great. Really enjoyed the parts they delved into the mythology, hellll and heaven etc.

Not utterly sold but will watch the 2nd half. So I was sold enough I guess...

I don't see this Skeletor as being caught up in the Christmas spirit and even saving a puppy or helping out two kids. He's definitely more evil than the Filmation one.

The Eternians status quo will be changed by the time the 10th episode ends. Many characters will remain dead. But He-Man? I'm 99% sure he will be alive. In what form? Don't know but it will be different than classic He-Man.

2. IMHO it's not a very villainous name. King Grayskull was a new character created for 200x as the precursor to He-Man who saved Eternia from Hordak and the Horde and trapped Hordak in Despondos. He was the originally King of Castle Grayskull. His followers became the Council of Elders, and his wife became the castle's Sorceress and Guardian.

I think my biggest question about all of this is: Did Moss Man not know that Skeletor could shoot fire?

Voltron did 6/7 splits of "seasons". She-ra did that once. It is entirely possible, that like with Castlevania, they are doing this to test the waters for a bigger episode order. But of course, they also have the CG cartoon in the works, and who knows it Netflix is interested in two ongoing He-man shows.
