The Dark Knight "Heath Ledger tried to sabotoge his performance"

This is the most ridic thing I've ever read. Ledger was a professional. We all know he took his work seriously, so therefore this would make no sense.

Haven't posted on this site in almost a year but I felt a need to respond to the obvious ********, this stupid little Vanity Fair article is trying to push.

I don't care who it comes from, all this is trying to do is to get readers in by creating controversy about something people enjoy.

Screw them.

Who knows? Who cares? Does it take away from the performance? No. Will this make us enjoy the film any less? No.

Do people sometimes make sh** up to get attention? Yes. Is this the case here? I don't know, but it doesn't sound like this guy has the memory of Heath held high when spilling this.

This isn't news; it's gossip.

Yeah, I couldn't care any less.

For starters I don't even know whether Ledger put a lot of effort or if he created all the mannerisms in one night. I don't know if he got locked in a hotel room to work on the character or to spend a while far from everyone. One tends to believe the better the acting the more work the actor did when they're not necessarily related. For some actors and for some roles you either got it or you don't.

What I do know is that his Joker was formidable.

And if he tried to sabotage himself and that's the Joker he got out of it, then more power to him.

I still think Ledger was just joking and everyone's taking this too seriously.

i dont think anyone here can even pretend to know anything about ledger. all we can know of him is how he portrayed himself to the media and how the media presented it to us, and im sure thats hardly any sort of an accurate representation of his reality. as for any personal motives or intentions towards TDK or life in general none of us can say s**t about it.

This just doesnt make any sense. If Ledger was sabotaging himself, his acting would have been terrible which it wasnt. And Nolan who is known to be a perfectionist wouldnt have let him on his set if he was ********ting around!

I can hear his Joker voice saying "Ahhh tatatatata, lets not blow this out of proportion".

Why would Ledger sign something he didnt want to?

Listen people, I agree that this is bs. In fact the reason Heath started taking Ambien was because of the lack of sleep he was getting because of how in his head the Joker character was. But seriously, stop the crap about how people are talking bad about him cause he's not here to defend himself. Everyday famous people are talked bad about and it has nothing to do with them being dead or alive. Stop being offended just to be offended.

Actually, according to some people (and I happen to believe this), the insomnia had nothing to do with the Joker (or not much, at least) but with him blaming himself for his breakup with Michelle Williams and the custody issues over Matilda...anyway, non or or bussines.

I can't believe this even got its own thread (it was already talked about in the Heath thread days before), the answer should be a no-brainer. Yes, it's related to TDK and not just Heath but it's such a silly and harmless quote that *of course* it was going to be picked apart and misinterpreted by some media. But not by (most of) the fans for which I'm glad.

Just listen to your guts. Heath was making a joke and that's all there is to it. I bet his agent regrets opening his mouth about it because clearly some people can't take a joke. If Heath said it in a live interview I'm sure there wouldn't have been any doubts about the seriousness of the quote! But that's printed media for you, it's easy to misinterpret quotes because you can't rely on the tone of the speaker's voice for help. I'm sure there's tons of stuff Heath joked about TDK that we'll never get to hear. The role was fun!

The whole "Joker made him sleepless" (as well as the even crazier "Joker killed him") angle to the story was manufactured by the media after he died, not by his co-stars or Heath himself. As you've said, he had a bajillion things on his mind when they were filming. He used the Joker role to break free from the troubles of his private life for a while. Throwing himself into work must have helped during the day. Once he went to bed I tend to believe his thoughts drifted back to his personal problems and he could no longer ignore them, which didn't help his insomnia much. His "mind was reeling" as he said.

I always thought the "Joker is to blame" angle to be completely ridiculous but easy to feed to people eager to believe sensationalist crap. People will believe anything these days. Those who live and breathe gossip bought it in a second. Youtube is full of "I've heard Joker killed him" comments, it's amazing. I bet they'll keep parroting this "Heath wanted to get fired" nonsense, too.

In response to this thread.

If anyone believes that, you are gullible. Don't take offence to me saying that, I'm not judging you as a person.

Just saying it is silly to believe something like that. Whether it is his "FRIEND OR AGENT"...whatever...that is B/S

It's an attention grabber article, that's all.

It is clear the man put his heart and soul into that roll. There was nothing over the top about it, he was fantastic.
