Electro UK's view on this trailer:

1st part: Oh this looks pretty cool actually, nice a creepy. I loves me a good ol' mystery.

Then the first sign of a quick time event comes on: F**K! :( I can't wait to pour water into an ice cube tray, but it in the freezer, wait for it to freeze then put the ice in my drink in this game. :(

It looks like all or most of the action scenes might end up being QTEs. There's no way that scene is an isolated incident, so expect all of the big cinematic scenes to be QTE controlled.

Yep, just like crappy ol' Indigo Prophecy. :(

Oh god I hate that pressing button combos crap.

But it makes it more cinematic... :o

I don't like QTEs either. It's cool and all that it looks like cinematic or whatever, but either let me watch the movie or let me play the game, don't give me some puzzle to play while watching a movie.

I feel like this game won't be much more then a point and click adventure wrapped in a pretty bow.

Well I at least hope that is only a small element of the game. I mean I understand it looks like it is heavily relying on story and characters but they also have to keep in mind IT IS A VIDEOGAME. I don't want something that relies on me pressing buttons in the right order.

Depends on how you look at it. Its not just a videogame. Indigo Prophecy was described by the developers in the tutorial as an interactive movie. Im assuming the same mindset is what will apply to HR as well. I loved that game and felt it was original in many ways. It approached things from a different direction and has potential if its expanded on and tweaked. Hopefully they will implement some of the suggestions requested from the first game and improve on that gameplay style. Its not for everyone, so if you weren't a fan of Indigo Prophecy, than this might not appeal to you.

Well like I said I hope it is just a part of the gameplay. I don't want an entire game that requires me pressing triangle, circle, square, and x in the right order. I have always been a bigger fan of the free roaming capabilities the PS3 has to offer so while I am complaining I am impressed with the graphics and the storyline looks interesting so hopefully there is a lot more to it than that aspect. :cwink:

there was some information released about the game that in the demo that trailer is from you could avoid that qte entirely. you also never really die from misspressed buttons you live with consequences of mistakes in other ways aparently.

So when that guy was going to drive the knife in her, if the right button isnt tapped and he plunges it in her then what? I actually like IP like many have stated the last act was horrible but that system of gameplay doesnt bother me.

I think a likely scenario is when he slashes at her and you miss the button, her face can be cut. The scar stays on you the entire game. Your blood will be found at the house if it is investigated, causeing more trouble for you. I don't think you can actually die.

Farheniet/Indigo Prophecy was a god awful game, truely terrible, but it had some great ideas.

They need to learn from the mistakes of the last game big time.

Some of the mistakes from the last game...

When you're trying to cover your tracks at the start after a murder, that's great. I had never seen anything like that in a game. And you're promised all sorts of different story threads and consequences depending on your actions.

I saw that the detectives picked up on something that I forgot to do, can't remember specifically as its been so long since I played the game.

A while later, I decided to play the game from the start, and try to do everything perfectly in the first scene. I realised that no matter what you do, you still get suspected. Example, I used the back door so the lady at the counter wouldn't see me. She gets interviewed by the cops, one minute she's all "I never saw him, I wouldn't recognise him", the next minute she totally contradicts herself "I'd never forget his face". What?? That's just sloppy.

The game has a large number of moments where it makes you think you can alter the course of the game. But the only time you can truely direct the course of the story is at the very, very end. Lame.

Those loooooooooong sequences of button matching were very boring, too. The aspect of either being a criminal, hiding your clues and being on the run is cool. Or the aspect of a detective, questioning people and looking for clues, thats fun. But you were led by the hand at every point, and the game wildly went the opposite direction of what attracted me to it in the first place.

The storyline was just ridiculous. It got sillier and sillier as it went on. It just became this mystical, sci fi story about the end of the world.

They need to focus on what's good. Decision making. Clue finding. Feeling like you're in control. I don't want to be moved along in a series of scenes.

Example, if I play a cop in this next game, what I would like to do is decide when I want to go to the police station, decide what crime scenes I want to visit and when, who I want to question, go home and make calls or recieve calls, show some aspects of a personal life that you can engage in more if you want to, etc etc etc. And the whole time, I want my actions to dictate the direction of the story. I wanna figure out who a murderer is because I was smart enough to, for example, not because the game leads you by the hand.

The game needs not just multiple endings but almost entirely seperate story threads depending on how you play.

If you die in this game then you are dead. But the game and story still carries on despite you being dead, you just become another character and carry the story on with the acknowledged death. Then I am guessing there will be multiple endings depending on what path/mistakes a gamer takes.

Heavy Rain: If the main girl dies, you can keep playing the “big story”

We thought we imagined this at the time, but Quantic Dream’s David Cage did definitely confirm at Games Convention that if you get the main character killed, you carry on playing the game’s central plot.
The protagonist is the girl showed in the SCEE press conference at the show (pictured), a journalist investigating some disappearances.

“I can’t really tell you too much about what the story’s about or how it’s going to work with the characters, all I can tell you that your character - the main character - can die, and the story will continue,” said Cage in a back-room demo the day after the conference.
“You can continue to play, without this character, of course

Cage was asked if this meant the player would move into a side-story if the leading character died.
“No, no,” he said. “It’s one big story
The thriller was the star of Games Convention, showing what looked to be a vaguely adult product. Fancy.

which is kind of confusing considering there will be 4 characters. After teh last character dies, Id assume you are then dead with no continuation of the plot

If they can learn from the mistakes of Indego Prophecy this game will be 10 out of 10. Damn, I hope they have. I really don't want a Matrix trip out button matching game. If they can keep the button matching to the minimum then all will be good.

The best and worst thing about Indigo Prophecy was the story. It was intriguing and engaging and what really kept players into the game but they completely went off track in the last third of the game and that killed it. It seems that they've really taken their time with the Heavy Rain story and Id hope they learned from mistakes made before
