Decisions I made aka Regrets:

I killed Nathaniel, by overreacting and jumping the gun so to speak. When the prompt came up I shot him. I regret that a lot. The game did a great job in making me overreact and putting the pressure on me.

I shot the other father. At the time I just wanted to complete the trial and tried to rationalize it afterward. He was a drug dealer and the kids were better off without him. He tried to kill me with the shotgun and laughed while tying to do so. In the end I regreted it. Ethan isn't a killer, but I made him one. :csad:

I couldn't save Lauren. I was so caught up in the frenzy of saving myself, that it was too late to save her.

I screwed up the last part with Madison. I lost control of her motocycle and it got Ethan killed.
A few things I loved and kept me on the edge of my seat:

The Bear Trial. Holy Crap! My heart was still pounding after that trial. Very intense.

The doctor. I accidentally drank his drugged up drink. Luckily for my adrenalin I did. trying to get free from the ropes and the fight afterward were absolutely frightening.

Saving Shaun in the warehouse. I yelled at him through the TV to wake up. I pleaded for him to live. After the things I put Ethan through, he had to live. I pressed every button with such authority and conviction during the CPR. When he woke up, I lept from my couch and cheered.

Saving Madison from the burning apartment. I was so nervous. I didn't want her to go out like that. Fortunately for her, I have seen KotCS a few times and she lived.

I thought it was the pacing toward the end that felt a bit off, personally. Once you learn who the killer is, I feel like they could've done a bit more to make the story mesh better. I know I just said people complaining about the plot twists/holes are exaggerating, but that's not to say there aren't any plot holes whatsoever. There are still some that could've been fixed with just a bit more time and the inclusion of a few key scenes.

ive only played through once and the only problems with the plot, one being the biggest, was [BLACKOUT]if Shelby was the killer then, storywise, why was he investigating himself? my only guess is to cover his tracks and tie up any loose ends but they never say. other stuff was what was up with Madisons dream and insomnia angle, and what was the reason for Jayden's "drug" problem. but i assume these things will be further explored either playing different scenarios or with the upcoming DLC prequels[/BLACKOUT].

i did everything you did except [BLACKOUT]i managed to save Lauren[/BLACKOUT]. i had the same reactions.:oldrazz:
 
The only "plot hole" for me was:

Ethan passing out when he did. I know they said he was passing out due to him not handling his son's death right, but each time was beneficial to Shelby. Was Shelby watching him the whole time? Was he actually drugging Ethan?

Shelby was just getting all the evidence and tieing things up like you said. That's why he was burning it all. There is even one scenario that you let everyone die except him. You get a trophy for it called The Perfect Crime.
 
I regretted killing the other father.

I also regretted not saving Lauren, but only until I realized Shelby was the killer. Their budding relationship after that made me feel so skeevy that I was kind of glad she died and the a**hole who murdered her son couldn't pretend to be her friend anymore.

I also shot Nathaniel, but it was even worse for me because it wasn't an accidental reflex reaction right when he pulled his gun; I talked him into putting his gun down and then shot him when he reached into his pocket for something else, which wasn't even a weapon. :csad:

I regretted letting Ethan get captured by the cops in the subway station. I went to the gate they indicated at the start, but I couldn't figure out what to do there, so I just wandered around until the cinematic of the cops arresting him kicked in.

I was very proud to have avoided drinking Doctor Death's drink. I accepted it and then he seemed really, really creepy when he started talking to Madison, so when the option came up to drink, I was like, "This is totally a date-rape situation." Of course, I then got him out of the room and stupidly took so long searching his goddamned house that he snuck up on me, knocked me out, and dragged me down to his torture chamber anyway. I managed to kill him and escape, though.

Very, very proud of the fact that I got all of the characters to survive. The fight between Jayden and Shelby on the conveyor belt at the end was intense, and I was so into it in part because I had played as Shelby for so long. It was like the game forced me to aid a killer and I kind of hated myself for it, even though I couldn't have known any better.
 
I think also another reason Shelby was catching up with the families is because he wanted to see first hand the after math of their sons death. When his brother died it ruined his life. He lost his mother and ended up going to a foster home. She would come and visit him but then became sick. He probably felt abandoned like she said. This is why he asks all of the questions about how the fathers reacted to the situations.

If you play the Butterfly mission, when your crawling through broken glass, there is actually a section where you will find a fathers dead body who didn't manage to make it out! I thought that was a nice touch.
 
Epic....just finished it, and absolutely loved it. After I finished it, I got the exact same feeling I get when I walk away from a really good movie at the theatre. I set back and started thinking back to the good moments in it, and thinking about the journey and how things came to a head at the end. It was a uniquely gratifying gaming experience that was different from finishing a MGS4, but satisfying all the same. I'm really not sure what else to say outside of spoilers, except for those who haven't got it, atleast rent it (tho IMO it's well worth a buy as I'm eager to give it multiple play thru's and see how certain things effect the ending).

So now as for spoiler. At first I thought the killer was
the FBI agent. I thought the drugs and ARI was messing with his mind.
Then mid way thru when I changed my theory to
Scott Shelby when he started acting funny, and they shifted focus off of him during Manfred's death. I didn't want it to be him since I liked him, but I couldn't shake the feeling.
Which turned out to be right. I liked the twist tho, but it could be because I eased into it rather than being shocked by it.

As for plotholes being a problem, they weren't for me at all. There were certain things I would have liked explained better,
like Ethan and Madison suddenly getting it on (I mean sure, there were sparks, but he goes from barely breathing to jumping her bones), and why Scott wanted to go after the rich kid so much (it could have been for a scape goat, or because he was angry someone imitated him, but it was never touched on).
However none of that completely took me out of it, pause for a second maybe, but not much else.

The graphics were stunning. The character models give Uncharted a run for it's money. However there were graphics hicups, like when turning a kid around at one point, and he kept flickering and twisting back and forth rather than slowly turning around. Also I felt kissing in the game was very unatural looking. However there were plenty of times where the characters moved very life like as well.

Finally the controls. It was a love hate relationship, especially the motion controls. This isn't a spoiler as we all knew a character could die or live based on your reactions, but let's just say the Mad Jack fight ended gruesomely a few times due to a few flicks on the controller not working right (tho I after a few quit to main menu and redo's I made it thru it). Then there were times, like when giving CPR, that the controls felt so natural that it almost felt like you were doing the action yourself. There were also a few times where I was so focused on timing button presses I missed some of the action, and other times they added so much more to the suspense. To those who haven't played tho, it gives you an option earlier on to say you're not comfortable with the controls, so I imagine they can be made easier to input.


Overall, I'm very happy with buying it. I could probably go on for a long time discussing various parts I loved, but I'm sure you guys have talked about them already. I'll read thru your comments now (which I've been avoiding this thread since it came out and I finished it), and comment on that I guess.



Oh, one last note, guess I should comment on what ending I got. I got the four heroes ending trophy,
So everyone living. Madison and Ethan got together, and got a new apartment with Ethan's kid being there. The FBI agent killed Shelby in their fight, then goes on to do a talk show and dump his drug in the toilet. Tho I think I overdid Ari since he saw little tanks moving around on his desk aiming at him after. Also that one woman who palled around with Shelby spit on his grave at the end saying she had nothing but contempt for him.

Nice. I'm pretty surprised, too. I figured it would be able to break this mark, but not this soon. If it can pull in another 500K looks like Sony may have the small success on their hands I thought it would pull off. Maybe a little more if this steam can continue for a little while longer
 
After reading thru the comments, too much to comment individually lol. Hate posting two times in a row, but guess I'll do what some of you did with posting decisions I made that I regretted or liked.

Decisions I'm proud of -

Ethan - When escaping the police at the motel, after an exciting chase sequence you get the choice of jump or surrender, and I jumped. Just felt very Hollywood (in a good way), and I knew there was a possibility it meant death. Also taking the poison, I really thought Ethan was dead after that, and I thought it over for awhile, but figured I went thru all of that, I needed to see it thru (and he lived anyway!).

Scott - Saving Lauren. At first I panicked, then while kicking out the window I stopped for a second and realized kicking out the window probably meant escaping. So I stopped for a second and realized I need to help her first because once the water started pouring in it was over. Also saving the store clerk, I remembered the chips being in the aisle so avoided that aisle, it was a bit of a hassle but getting around all of that and knocking him out was worth it. Letting the rich father live. He was an ass that tried to kill Scott and Lauren, but...it was the right thing. I really thought it'd come back to bite me in the ass lol.

FBI agent - Not shooting Nathaniel. It was by pure accident, I actually was relaxed so when R1 popped up I wasn't ready to hit it. Then when I saw it was a cross...lol. He lived because I let my guard down.

Can't really think of any as Madison.

Decisions I regretted -

Ethan - Killing that other father. Sure, he was a drug dealer, but the guy was pleading for his life. Plus Ethan was innocent up until that point. Also the cutting of the fingers, used a butcher knife...shoulda went with the scissors :)

Scott - Pretty much every action that led to the coverup after he was the confirmed killed lol. I knew some I had to do for the plot, but like cleaning all the fingerprints and then later on realizing I was helping the killer cover his tracks.

FBI agent - Not attacking the one cop during the briefing. Since you never get a chance later on to jack him, really regret not having messed him up during my one chance lol.

Madison - Drinking the drugged drink. Second she started sipping it I knew it was a mistake.


I also liked
when being questioned by the cops and being asked the time and color of your kids jacket and pants. It didn't change anything, but really put you in the shoes of Ethan. Here you are, confused about WTF is going on, and suddenly you're asked to answer questions that are the last things you were thinking about, but were common sense questions the police needed answered. Kinda felt realisitic in the sense of how a panicked parent might feel (tho in defense of me getting the answers wrong, Ethan might have bought that coat and seen it dozens of times before, so he wouldn't forget as easily as the player)
 
Looks like it's on its way to being a success, hopefully. I knew it wasn't the kind of game that would sell a million units in the first week, but even so those are good numbers. I really hope that this game can help rejuvinate interest in adventure games, because a lifetime ago they were my favorite genre but they've been very neglected for more than a decade.
 
PS3 works but my Heavy Rain still doesnt. Still waiting on that patch Quantic Dream
 
I was kind of surprised by how much it sold i wasn't expecting it to be 500 000 i was sort of expecting it to sell around the 300 000 or less during it's first week
 
Okay, I finished it, but I have a quick question about endings and replays:

I looked up about how to get all the endings, and one said that if you don't kill the doctor will Madison you should get a scene where he confronts her at a book signing or something along those lines. Okay, I did not get that scene despite not killing him (I didn't even confront him in anyway). Now, in my game Madison and Ethan ended up together as a couple. Did that have anything to do with it? Also, she wasn't on the talk show, only Jayden was

And, as far as replays are concerned, do you have to replay the entire game to fruition when making a major choice? For example, if I don't save Lauren, can I set the game to save, then skip all the way to the end to see an ending with her, or do I have to play the game all the way through again from that point for it to count.

Oh, and as far as the Origami Killer is concerned, I didn't really see a big story problem with it, but I did have another game-related problem with it:

I felt like it cheapen the experiment to a degree. The whole point of the game is seeing these character's story unfold and making all their important choices. With Shelby we don't have that. We only see his story partially unfold, and many of his important choices are left out (killing Manfeld, for example). It made sense for him to be the killer, and I think it fit well enough, but I didn't like that aspect.

I will also say I ran into quite a bit of bugs. Several times my game glitched or totally froze up

I love forgetting to close the door quietly after all I've done for Shaun in the 3rd scene. Ethan's face matches mine.
 
yes teardrop you do have to play on from a chapter you go back to to get the new ending.
 
if you do things right you only need to play through from near to the end 6 times after your first completion to unlock all the endings.

Ethan has to be killed by the police I believe for you to get that Madison ending. That's how I got it at least. Screw up the motorcycle part at the end and she will get arrested instead of help Ethan out of the warehouse.
Restart the warehouse chapter and choose to save it and don't let her help Ethan.

Also, it doesn't matter if you kill the doctor or not. It is implied that the doctor at the book signing was in her head. I killed him and got the ending.

is that what that scene was? i got that and i was just like "huh?...".
 
Has anyone tried replaying some scenes to see what happens if you let the characters die? It's mind-bogglingly hard to get people to kill you!

In the doctor scene with Madison, he gets interrupted once by a bible salesman for a good 2 minutes, comes back, then gets interrupted again by the same bible salesman for another minute or so, invites the salesman in, knocks him out, and only then does he actually manage to kill Madison.

Paco will also never shoot Madison. She literally just stands there until you make her start stripping, and then she just dances until you grab the lamp.

I tried to let Ethan die in the Bear trial, but the car just gets knocked off the road early and you don't get that part of the address.

I tried to let the other father kill Ethan, too, but he only gives Ethan a bit of damage from ricochets, then calls him a junkie and throws him out of his apartment.

With Scott, when you go to kill the elder Kramer, you can get shot but you can't die; Scott just runs out of the house.

You get like 3 chances to stop Mad Jack from killing Jayden after he discovers the acid, too.

Oh, has anyone tried
to let Nathaniel shoot Blake? I replayed that scene to not shoot Nathaniel, but I forgot to try letting Nathaniel kill Blake. I doubt Blake can die, since he winds up leading the manhunt for Ethan later, but it'd be really awesome if that *****ebag could get shot.

NSFW: Heavy Rain Glitch Brings Playable, Accidental Nudity :awesome:

Reader kuroner says that while playing Heavy Rain the other day, he stumbled on a little glitch. One that leaves one of the game's stars, Madison Page, completely naked.



He says that following the love scene between Ethan and Madison in "On The Loose", in which he declined the kiss but ended up triggering the sequence anyways, he reloaded his save game later and bam. There was Madison. Playable, and in naught but her birthday suit.



Seeing as a fully naked model of Madison exists in the game already, from her shower scene earlier in the story, this is definitely something that's within the realms of possibility. While you mull over the clip below (which is NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK), be thankful the glitch affects Madison, and not someone else. Like Scott. Or the clown.
