about plot holes
only plot holes i see are ethan's blackouts, dreams of bodies drowned and the origami in his hand. this can be explained by his coma and distress if he heard about the killing in his coma, but not the origami. but then the cops should know he was in a coma when the killing started. when shelby is at the grave yard and you make him think a lot he thinks the lead isn't worth following and refers to what turns out to be his brother as "that kid". unless he's compartmentalising an awful lot i'd think he would have thought "my brother" instead. some of this could be made more clear in the DLC that's coming. in one of them we play as the killer perhaps in the time frame of the game. also we have to wonder what test he laid for other fathers hassan only had one origami in his box after all. the killer also seems to have spent a lot on phones and cars etc some time years in advance of a test.

The only plot hole for is the blackouts and how Shelby was able to be there each time.
He put all the other fathers through the same trials, but not all of them could figure them out or pass them. During the Butterfly, you see one of the dead fathers in the tunnel with the glass. I think the cars he used were all stolen and changed by Mad Jack. And remember the car ethan used had been in that garrage for a couple of years. I am very curious to see what the DLC will consist of.

that's one of the things tho he has his own car, then the car he picks up kids in, the ones he's set up for the bear challenge. that's a lot of cars.

Where was he getting all of his money from, though? Being a cop doesn't pay that good, and seeing as he was not actually a private investigator I have trouble imagining that he'd be able to afford all the technological goodies that he disposes of during his murders, let alone paying Mad Jack to refit all those stolen cars. Also, how did he come to own a warehouse?

Yeah I think there was a I side we never got to see of Shelby. The other father (maybe) and Paco all knew him and had a lot of cash. Maybe he did things for them to get cash and supplies. Just guessing. Maybe it will get addressed in DLC.

Se7en meets Heavy Rain. :funny:

Did he actually own the warehouse? I thought it was just kind of an abandoned one. All the other stuff he probably gathered over several years as a cop. Maybe just gradually bought them, or took them from raid he had while on the force. Really not that huge a plot hole

We know he stole at least one thing from evidence while he was a cop: the gun he dropped in Paco's office. If you analyze it in ARI with Jayden, he says that it was checked into evidence on an earlier case.

As for Shelby's money, who knows? It is a bit of a plot hole in that they never explain how he pays for all this stuff, but I don't really mind it. All that matters is that he does have money, somehow, and he can do all the stuff he needed to as the killer. Does it really matter how he got the money?

Also, with Ethan's blackouts, I assumed Shelby was somehow giving them to him. I gotta play the story again to see if Ethan touches something related to the Origami Killer before his blackouts, but we know Shelby was watching Ethan for a while, so is it so impossible that he was leaving some kind of drug that could be absorbed through the skin on things he knew Ethan would touch? Granted, that's a big leap of logic, and the fact that I had to come up with it on my own does still make it a plot hole.

well the first blackout occurs after putting Shaun to bed. i read the letter from the killer beforehand so that could factor in but i dont see how. also if you go to the backyard it changes to a very shaky shot of Ethan almost from afar. im convinced now that thats Shelby spying on him so thats something to consider too.

Decided to start my 'Perfect Crime' run, see the ending where the killer goes free. After looking at the trophy list, looks like I may still try to get them all. Seems like a pretty easy list, but I have two quick questions on them:

Happy Birthday: It says I should work, set the table, and play with the kids in the prologue. I did all that but didn't get the trophy, is there some kind of special requirement I missed? Not sure if I got it before the error hit.

Perfect Crime: For this one, are you suppose to let Ethan die or get caught after Jayden dies so he can't go free?

Did you work until the picture was complete? There are like 5 segments to it. I kept doing them and I was like, "When will this ever end?!"

Yeah, I did it until he said he was done.

I've already started my 'Perfect Crime' run and am to Madison's first part. I already have several of the trophies, but noticed that one didn't unlock when it should have

Happy Birthday.

The drawing was the one that I kept messing up on. You are finished with it when the down arrow stops showing up and the last he does is sign the bottom right corner. Also I didn't put shaun down until the game made me do it. I did not push down to stop.

i dont think that matters. i went once around the yard and once i got back to Jason and saw the arrow i put him down and later i got the trophy. like if you go for the GOOD FATHER trophy i was a little behind schedule taking care of Shaun but i still got that one.

I'm almost 100% sure I completely finished the drawing, because the game basically forced me to stop. I did put Shaun down fairly quick, though. I let Jason win the 'fight' the first time. I just wish I could remember if I had that trophy before the wipe.

Good lord... I'm such a gaming ****e and Heavy Rain addict. I rented Heavy Rain yesterday and played through it in one sitting. I'm so beat...

I played from 10pm till 7am. But it was awesome. But of course I have one or two small complaints.

I haven't been reading any of the spoilers up till now, what the heck was going on with Ethan's blackouts? At first they were literally telling us that he's the Origami Killer, by having blackouts only to awaken with Origami Figures in his hand, having visions of drowning bodies, but in the end he had no slightest connection to the Origami Killer whatsoever. All those hints were presented to us to lead us into a different direction and to surprise us with the real killers identity.

All fine and good, if the Killer would have been his Shrink like I suspected. Would have made sense, during one of Ethan's sessions, he could've been hypnotized with the command to blackout when he hears a certain sound or something like that. All to set him up. But we're getting all these clues about Ethan's dual personality and in the end it's nothing but a big, freaking coincidence. There's a killer loose leaving Origami figures and he just happens to get blackouts, ending up with Origami figures in his hand and visions of drowning bodies. Hey, these things happen. :whatever:

Anyway, great game, survived with all my characters.

...

But yeah, I cheated. I wouldn't accept fate. Especially not if ****ing controls are the reason for my characters dying. :argh: I replayed certain parts several times, like Ethan's crawling section. At first I got around fine, part at certain parts he kept turning back again and again and again and ****ing again when I tried to turn left or right! :cmad: Or when Madison was strapped to the table and I didn't manage to cut myself loose, even though I moved that damn stick ultra carefully. Damn that took several tries.

But it's still a great game. Kinda dumb how they explain that Shelby is the Killer and they don't explain Ethan's blackouts, but otherwise it was pretty good.

So in ya'lls opinion, is this game worth picking up or is it a definite renter? I've been thinking about picking it up, because I've heard nothing but good things about it. Only thing is, once I beat it, does it have the replay-ability aspect to it? Obviously there is no Multiplayer, so what would keep me coming back for more? In other words, I'm looking for a sales pitch from someone who has played it and knows it inside and out.
