"It annoys me when I see men with an arm slung round their girlfriend’s shoulders,’ she said.
‘It’s like ownership."

I think she's way off base with this. Actually shockingly so. I get not everyone likes PDA. But come on.

And she does specify girlfriends, but what about platonic opposite sex friends?

I mean I guess I can see some instances of dudes doing that.

Im just curious to get some other thoughts. All of my co workers, male and female, disagree with her.

Helen Mirren is irrelevant in my world.

She's a frikin Dame she can say what she likes.

We now live in a world where context doesn't matter and any sign can only have one possible signifier.

Arm around the shoulder = Only possibly refers to ownership and objectification. :o

She forgot to take her medicine at a time when there was a drought for real news, apparently.

You know what's funny...to me anyway? I saw this on the Facebook news side bar. Earlier today there was something about Kim Cattrall saying that it was offensive to call a person without a child "childless". I also think that's ridiculous.

Slow news day indeed.

It is getting to the point when doing anything offends somebody.

Five years from now wearing shoe laces will be a sign you hate puppies :o

I actually agree with her, partially. In particular guys who have to have their arm around her all the time; I mean ALL the time, like they're in a restaurant and you can't sit across from her, which you're supposed to, or if they're on a narrow sidewalk and he'd walk on top of mud or ice just to have her arm around her. It comes across as weak and insecure, and frankly if you're over 20 and still doing that you need to grow a set.

Again: Context, it helps. Certain people seem to be quite hot on the idea of gross generalizations.

I read a response to Mirren's comments where the agreeing writer said "Men's arms are heavy, and usually holding a pint" and I'm thinking to myself, maybe some women need to stop hanging out with scumbags or in places where that kind of behaviour is so acceptable if it bothers them?

I believe on peeing on things to show Ownership.

I want to know where the SHH servers are.

Beyonze new hit!!!! "If you own it put your arm around it"
All the free ladies
All the free ladies!!!
Now put your price up!!!

I put my arms around friends of both sexes, does this mean I'm trying to own all of them?

In other news - the Knights In Satan's Service are corrupting our youth, Magic promotes Satanism and Harry Potter is the devil.

Kim Cattrall can say what ever she wants. I gave her a lifetime pass. Her 50 somethin wrinkles are mines.

She can say what she wants but it sounds poorly thought out, especially when it leaves no room for context.

what does it say if I put my @##$$% into her @#$%^?

Why must women have to deprive themselves of something? The men are the one that should

1. Stop putting their arm around these women.

2. Stop working on their biceps and triceps.

3. Invent smaller pint glasses.

If you put your arm around and was like that all night, or if you can't be within 18 inches of a person without doing that, wouldn't your friend, regardless of gender, say something like, "Uhhhm, hey Deej, everything going okay?".

BLACKMAN , UM .... i
