I'm not a religious person at all (not an Atheist, either), but I find these to simply be sickening and enraging, and giving a bad name to decent and tolerant religious people everywhere. You deserve fair warning that these videos have some pretty disturbing content in them.

Video #1

Video #2

There's also a documentary on the subject and the website has some clips from it up for viewing. I'm curious if anyone here has ever been to one of these disturbing attractions or knows someone who has.

No, but Hell Houses look and are staged just like regular haunted houses - leading to a bit of misleading advertising for people going to them thinking they're just that.

I saw a documentary on this a while ago. Crazy stuff.

I think I've been to a hell house before. It was stupid...and not scary. But I do know a Church was behind it.

I don't find the first vid disturbing, kinda boring, really. Hell Houses have good and bad points.

I've been to a couple and didn't find anything offensive to the ones I saw. Of course, I was also a believer and a horror movie fan (kind of rare, I'll admit) so I was used to both the theatrical content and the message.

The central theme of these is to get people to confront the idea of death and whether or not they think they are ready to face it without Christ. I see no problem with that. Sometimes, I've heard that certain church groups have gone overboard with imagery about homosexuals, single mothers, rock music etc. I even heard that one such Hell House used the Columbine massacre as part of it's theme. Those are all examples of very poor judgment but I'm not surprised that the more fanatical veins of the faith go this route.

I'm going to open a hell house
....or a ****e house

I guess to the Christians pretty much the same thing

And ok, I was kidding, but now I watched those

The second one?! What ... the... hell

Literally

"She's out... LETS RAPE HER!"

Jeez.

It's simply a method of instilling fear in children before they get old enough to think on their own and possibly question the validity of their beliefs - often-times traumatizing them.

There's nothing "good" about something that is effectively child abuse under the guise of religion.

Huh?! I don't remember seeing one kid at the ones to which I went. In fact, I think they had age limits, something like 14 or 16. Maybe they vary from region to region but any intelligent parent should understand that they aren't kids' stuff.

I'm not religous in the slightest so would I enjoy taking a tour in one of these?

I'm not sure what two lesbians do that would deserve an eternity in hell.

If God has the same mentality of those who run hell houses then we're going to need a smarter God.

look at the human race and the world we live in

a race and world created by this so called "god"

now he's either stupid, a stoner, or an ass hole

one of the three (or mixed)

I liked the guy with the bong in the hell house.

Let me guess, when he had the munchies he ate a baby.

Wine is fine, weed is an evil deed.

I wouldn't go that far. I just don't think God is limited to a right winger mentality.

If God were stupid humanity would have no redeeming values.

If he were a stoner life wouldn't make sense.

If he were an a-hole life would be unfair.

Ok you might have point with the last two. :o

did they say this in a hell house?

I would have argued that wine was created by man whereas weed is a natural plant created by god (assuming one exists)

Who would you trust? A bunch of corporate stiffs telling you to drink their wine (product) or a higher being telling you to smoke his herb? A higher being that just so happened to have created you, the world around you, and all the living creatures and plants in it.

well I know who I would trust

No, but it seems to be church's/society's belief.

Discuss the issue without insulting and attacking everyone that belongs to the religion or religion in general. Just as everyone who posts at a comicbook based website isn't a fat pimply faced virgin living in their parents basement, everyone who is religious isn't spending their life 24/7 attacking those who don't share their beliefs.

Keep it civil.

We can't attack people who run hell houses?

Do ALL religious people run HellHouses? Do ALL Christians run HellHouses?

People are starting to attack ALL Christians and ALL religious people because of the actions of a few. This will not turn into another LETS BASH EVERYTHING RELIGIOUS thread.

I use to work in one at one of my old churches, it was a big event. And people came out. The lines were always long and filled with church going people and non-church going people. They all knew what they were paying for. In my opinion, if you willingly pay for something, then you're not getting anything forced upon you.

Now, as far as if they are a good idea or not. I just enjoyed acting in them.
