Part 15
It was about an hour after everyone went to sleep when Frank spoke to me. I was on the ground, faced away from everyone, pretending to be asleep..
"Alexis, wake up. I know how much you can't trust anywhere we situate ourselves, so the two of us are going to make sure the place is safe to be in." He whispered to me.
"I'm awake, Frank. What part of, 'It's hard to sleep when your life can be taken away in seconds' didn't you understand?"
"I've known you for a few hours hours, and ***** is the only word I could use to describe you."
I got up and we walked to the staircase.
"Do you use that mouth to talk to your wife?"
"Of course not."
"Well, don't start using it with me. I already have enough reason to kill you." I sadi as we made our way to the second floor. Frank had a pistol, and I, hidden behind me, under my jacket, had my machete.. "What's up here, on the second floor, I mean?" I asked him.
"I'm guessing the rooms. It would seem better for us to stay up here in the beds, but someone has to keep watch downstairs."
We walked though the halls, checked each room, then decided to go to the next floor. I stayed ahead of Frank. The man was afraid of his own shadow. I thought I heard something from behind me and figured it was Frank, but he wasn't there whan I turned around to make sure. Just when I was about to go back and look for him I heard a gun going off. I ran towards it immediately.
"Frank?" I called.
"In here." his voice answer from one of the rooms. when I got to the room. there was an old man on the bed. There was a bullet hole in his forehead. There was also some noises coming from the closet. It sounded like scratching.
"Frank, what the hell happened in here?" I asked him. I wasn't sure, but the man didn't look like he was turned. In fact, He looked very much human. One weird thing about him was his eyes, which were wide open, were white.
"I need your machete."
"What the hell for?"
"Alexis, there is something in that closet. I need you to open the door so I can cut its head off. For that to happen, I will the machete. Please give it to me."
When the scratching got louder I gave him the machete. He went up to the closet door, turned the knob and.... "Arf! Arf!" A bloody dog ran out of it and towards me.
"Hey, little doggy." I said as I got down on my knees and started checking for any open wounds. As far as I could tell it was in perfect health. She, the dog, was wearing something, some sort of jacket. "God, Frank! this is a seeing eye dog!"
"So?" He responded.
"So?!" I got up to look at him. "Did the old man in any way attack you?"
"...No."
"Then why did you shoot him?"
"Who knows where he's been? Do you? For all I know, he could've been one of those things. Would you rather me take the risk and not shoot him?
"It would've made more sense to, Frank. You probably killed an innocent man!" I screamed as I got in his fsce.
"You mean like you almost ****ing killed me?!" He screamed as held the gun towards my head. I had no way to respond to this.He had my machete leveled towards my stomach, as well. He was holding it in a way that if I moved foward, I would have been impaled by it. I couldn't do anything.
"David was bitten before we left his house, like I told you. I hurt my arm before I met David, like I told you! If I were bitten, I would have turned way before David had!"
Again, I had nothing to say. He was right, but all of my frinends turned on me. I couldn't handle someone else, who I had to trust, turn on me again. What else could I have done?
"You were so hell bent on me killing someone, why not start with you? Oh, that's right, I don't need to. I alreadly started with the old man."
"You're not gonna kill me, Frank."
"Really? Why not?"
"You don't have the guts." I had to bluff him out of this.
"Guts, huh? I'm sure you have plenty, though." With that I felt a little pressure in my abdomen. Each second he increased the pressure.
"Stop!" I screamed. "Please." and he stopped. He just stared me in the eyes and dropped the machete. He put the pistol in his pocket and walked out of the room. "Frank, wait!" I called after him. He didn't respond. I grabbed the machete and called the dog, who was sniffing at the old man, to follow me as I ran after Frank.

What is wrong with me? Was I really going to kill her? You had to prove a point. What point?! That she really couldn't trust me? That she shouldn't? Alexis must think I went off the deep end. She had to be knocked down a peg. Now she'll know better next time not to **** with you. You did good. Now all you have to do is kill what needs to be killed. You're strong, Frank. Start proving it.
I was at the staircase when I heard Alexis calling my name. I couldn't face her, not after what I just did to her. I started running down the stairs, but as I was, I heard screaming coming down from below. Someone was running up the stairs. It was Todd, and he looked terrified.
"You were supposed to keep a lookout, Frank!"
