Henry Golding in Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins

I don’t know. This looks like another Mortal Kombat 2021 waiting to happen.

“Hey, you know the character you love that doesn’t speak and wears a cool costume? Well, we’re going to show his origin outside of that costume speaking! For a whole movie!”

I think (maybe) the one thing this movie might have over MK is that it has some legit good actors and martial artists in the main roles. Golding is very charismatic and has some interesting range. Not sure if he can fight but I’m assuming they trained him up well so he doesn’t look silly next to badasses like Koji and Uwais (who are also good actors). And Samara Weaving is awesome. Now that all might not mean **** if the script and direction are trash but it would have to be really awful to be as bad as MK.

EDIT: Just looked through the director’s filmography. Okay, yeah this might suck.

I'll hold out hope, but it is suppose to come out in July and doesn't have a trailer yet. Really?

i like the look of this.
good casting and premise sounds good to me.

Awesome. Another trailer set to a generic rap song

I wonder if the plot of the movie goes the route of having Snake Eye's character endure his tragic injury towards the end of Act 3, (which would then set up things for a possible sequel) detailing his damaged face getting reconstructed to resemble a Caucasion Male but without the ability to speak, following his injuries which would then set him up for the vision of Snake Eyes.

Better look at the costume.

You know, considering that this film is doing its own take on the character and his origin, if it’s fun and entertaining, perhaps maybe even good, I don’t mind if they change some things here or there for the majority of the film, so long as the status quo for the character as we know him is reached by the end in some form or fashion.

If the movie isn’t good, though, then I might have some words. :oldrazz:

Hopefully, this trailer delivers since we have pretty much been waiting forever for it. Also, I knew they weren't going to hire talent like Henry Golding who is already a handsome dude and not show his face.

Well, the odd part is, if it's truly an "origin" and he becomes the Snake Eyes we know by the end, then what do they do in that regard with a sequel?

Also, with the G.I. Joe Origins added there, are they planning to go Marvel style and have Origin tales for a lot of the characters leading to a full fledged G.I. Joe movie?

Well, it will more than likely depend on how well this movie does. Clearly, Retaliation didn't do well enough for them to go back to that thread. So whether this leads to Snake Eyes 2 or GI JOE Movie Reboot remains to be seen.

They are apparently developing a Lady Jaye TV series for Amazon, so we'll see what happens.

It makes no sense to me that they are releasing a trailer so late. Bad marketing.

Just for example, Snake Eyes was a white dude in the comics. He wasn't mixed race. I don't think that's that big of a deal. I think it is important that Snake Eyes did serve in the American military though and that he's scarred on an op, and he loses his voice. Those are important aspects.

But I mean even The 2009 GI Joe movie sort of dumped all that. They made Snake Eyes a homeless kid who was adopted by the Arashikage and took a vow of silence. LAME. But you know Lorenzo diBonaventura produced that movie as well, not to mention all the Michael Bay Transformers movies. So I don't have a ton of faith he will get those aspects right.

This is one of those movies that should have their own dedicated genre. They sit with movies like Bloodshot, MK21, Most recent Bruce Willis movies amongst other that I cant remember because they aren't memorable. Most would say Direct to Video but they have a little bit of quality that you could maybe watch it twice but its easily forgotten because another one of these movies are just around the corner
