Tom Hanks, Robin Wright Digitally De-Aged for New Robert Zemeckis Film - Variety

Tom Hanks and Robin Wright may look a little younger in the upcoming movie “Here” from director Robert Zemeckis.

The film, which reunites the “Forrest Gump” co-stars after nearly 30 years, will use new hyperrealistic technology, including AI-generated face replacements and de-aging, to allow its stars to tell a story that spans generations. Based on Richard McGuire’s graphic novel, “Here” takes place in New England — starting as wilderness and later becoming the site of a home — against a tale of love, loss, hope, struggle and legacy.

I’m still pulling for Zemeckis even if the last few films have been rough.

Please bring that 80s/90s Zemeckis magic lol

I mean, a script by Eric Roth is a good sign.

The comparisons between the de-aging tech and actual footage of Hanks and Wright in their younger years should be interesting since they've been active in Hollywood going back to their twenties at least.

Hanks in that first pic is how I image a live action Woody to look lol

Definitely some Zemeckis type stuff going on here.

That looks like AI.
Jesus Christ.

Somehow they’re static images and they already look like out of sync matched movements.

I like the idea. And it takes guts for an entire movie to be from the same one angle (albeit over billions of years).

Bring on the tears Zemeckis!

I mean, the concept is interesting, but the use of AI and how Bob's last 2 movies turn out (Pinocchio especially, which should've been a slam dunk for the guy) ........I just don't know. I'm worried he's lost it.

Fair. Yeah, Pinocchio was so badly done I can’t believe it was the same guy who gave us all those classics from the 80/90s. Hell, I can’t believe it was the same guy who even gave us Flight a decade back.

But to be fair even another great director like David Lowery couldn’t make Peter Pan and Wendy work at all so I have to assume the Disney+ of it all just destroys these things.

Hopefully Zemeckis brings a little more passion than his last few go arounds.

Actally Peter Pan and Wendy was good. It just wasn't a remake like Disney claimed but more of an adaptation of the original book. The only references to the Disney movie are the costumes and an instrumental version of "You Can Fly" heard at one point.

Sorry, I thought it was so poorly done. A good adaptation of the original book was the 2003 version. I felt Lowery was on auto pilot along with every choice in that film unfortunately.

It's a gimmick alright, I don't know how if it (or I) can sustain two hours staring at a static place.

This looks... unnerving. They still have time to fix the effects, right?

Particularly the :05 - :11 mark for Robin Wright. Hanks looks much better, so maybe they just worked on him first? However, if that was the case - why show that much of a close up of Robin ( :12) instead?

That said, the story looks great. Just the uncanny valley...

So basically Forrest, Jenny, Zemeckis all together again with a tripod, AI and some WandaVision/Cloud Atlas feels.

Somebody please get Robert out of the uncanny valley.

Plot wise this reminds me of A Ghost Story.
