Here's a challenge: try memorizing numbers you've depended on your contacts for.

Yesterday, I realized I had no idea what my sisters cell number was, since it's been in my contacts. And then, I realized I've only memorized 4 numbers (mine, my dad's cell, my mom's cell and my house number). I figured it'd be a good idea to try to memorize more, which gave me the idea to make thread.

So how much do you depend on your contacts to call people? Would it be physically possible to know each number in it? And is knowing really just half the battle?

When I was your age, we didn't have cell phones and had to memorize everything. :cmad: :geezer:

I barely know any. I know my mom's number and that's about it. :o

the thing is that people change numbers so often now, it's not like a house phone where your number is the same for life...

i still kinda remember all my primary school friend's house numbers or i could distinguise which one was which if they were called out.

i could probably do about 20 mobiles if i really cared but i can't be bothered.

I know one- Phone Home

I know quite a few including my lawyers' direct lines, my gf's mobile, my mother's mobile,me stepfather's mobile and odirect line at the office, several of my business contacts direct lines as well.

There are quite a few I do not know as well as I have over a 500 contacts in my phone of which the large majority is business.

I don't even have a cellphone, so basically all numbers I call with any frequency I know.

Out of some 70 listings on my cell, I have my mom and dad's numbers memorized. All others...nope.

You can't fool me. You had little books and organizers where you wrote everyone's numbers down.

My own cell phone, my house phone, and my older brother's cell phone are the only numbers I can dial. I haven't memorized any other numbers.

I have my brothers, mom/dad's, about 2 friends of mine, and I think I have a Pizza Hut near me memorized too almost :funny:

i know my house number, my best freind from when i was 5 and a company called airways that make lenses for glasses...

why the hell should i know my own mobile number...i've never been in a situation where i've needed to call it:huh:

I could probably write down 90% of the numbers in my phone. I just remember numbers good for some reason. And before someone makes a joke about %...I have about 50-75 numbers in my phone.

To give it to other people.

I admit, I only know numbers from before I got a cell phone. Which means I still remember dumb numbers, like the one for my dad's pager he got rid of 10 years ago, and none of the 40 or so I might actually need now.

I am the same way. I almost never use even the hard wired phone and have never owned a cell. I can still remember the phone numbers of friends and relatives from more than 30 years ago. I haven't bothered to learn any in several years though.

Exactly. I remember every number from every person I knew before I got a cellphone. Now I only know maybe a half a dozen. With a contact list and all of my friends changing their numbers every two years when the contract ends... How can I keep up?

Let's see if I can remember my most important numbers...

1-900-mixalot....

Yep, I'm all set.

I know them all by heart, including the 1-800 number for my bank and the whole automated system/my card number/access code by heart. Yet i suck at math and multi-tasking.
