'Heroes' Creator Apologizes to Fans for lackluster season.

HRG is definately the man, and it would be a great loss if he does indeed kick the bucket.

I think he will die... is too early to have a painting that doesn't come true...

Except if the painting comes true AND he survives...

Yeah, the painting doen't actually say with 100% certainty that he's dead. Just that he's severely f'ed up.

Not fan driven? Do you realize how the TV business works? TV is almost completely funded by advertisers. Based on ratings and therefore number of eyeballs, price is set of advertising time.

A show which is popular charges more for advertising and thus profits more.

All shows are fan driven. A smart producer will listen to fan feedback, especially if the number are slipping. To rest on your laurels is suicide in the TV business.

I think you might be warping his statement to mean fan-written. Due to copyrights and potential for lawsuits, you can be assured that fan-written shows most likely won't happen.

P.S. TV is getting more and more revenue from DVD and Internet sources. Hey, why are the writers striking again?

Thank you for educating me on the TV business. I had no idea how it worked.

Fan driven is different from fan responsive or fan sensitive. It's also not "fan written," I don't know where you got that. If the writer succumbs to EVERYTHING fans say, there will be little surprises, and the show could become very bland and predictable, even campy. Fans aren't always right, and some of the most compelling moments in television history occurred despite popular response. I'd rather have a show that's critically acclaimed than one that is pandering. If the producers are afraid to to take risks in the story because they're afraid they'd offend fans... well that's creative suicide.

PS: "Fanboys" make up a tiny (albeit important) portion of a show's viewership. If the writers start catering to them, they risk growth from other bases.

Well, the thing is that fans all have their own views. You can't just say "let's go with the fans' views" and there be only one to follow and it fixes all your problems. Plus, the fans that don't get it their way would be angry and refuse to accept ANYTHING but their own.

Now that isn't to say you can see what the fans liked about a certain season and follow that general direction, or that you can't analyze some criticisms and minimize. it.

EXACTLY

There are so many questions about the paintings like the HRG Painting who is Clarie kissing and who shot him, my money is Mohinder.

Didn't think Kring should apologize for this season. My thoughts on the complaints:

THE PACE IS TOO SLOW
I think too much adrenaline would be a mistake. The pace seems similar to last year and that was great for the most part.

THE WORLD-SAVING STAKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED SOONER
The mystery of the past generation was interest enough for me. and also Peter's status quo was interesting.

THE ROOKIES DIDN'T GREET THEMSELVES PROPERLY
The new characters may not had the greatest introduction, but Monica has a cool power and I kinda like the interaction of the Wonder twins and Sylar.

HIRO WAS IN JAPAN WAY TOO LONG
Hey, who wouldn't want to hang out with their favorite hero as long as possible. :cwink: I really don't understand the hate for this storyline.

YOUNG LOVE STINKS
Hmm......... west was the only one that sucked. I imagine any romance with that character would have been bad. The romance of Hiro/Yaeko and Peter/Caitlin was okay, as it didn't really interrupt the focus of each storyline.

No, the pacing is much slower than last year, and that is what people are complaining about.

I don't know who hates it. A lot of people including myself think that the story could have been greatly condensed which would have made the story more impactful and made the pacing quicker and more exciting.

I have to agree about that. Quicker pacing would have made it more exciting. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy every minute of it! Even the cockroach that likes to spring up from time to time! :woot:

It doesn't seem slower to me at all. :o Even so, I like the pace its on own. IMO, the slow buildup makes the future episodes much much better. And i think that what made it more successful last year. It created alot of interest and mystery to the story of Season 1.

I guess more ppl want more action than story. *shrugs*

Apparently.

It's all about instant gratification with people. Everyone wants everything fast and right now...rather than spending time building an intricate narrative.

Excellent point Nathan was severely fu-ed up after Peter explodes and he was healed so who's to say HRG cannot be healed.:o

So was Peter when he was to rescue Claire...

A lot of paintings (almost all of them) have come true, but in many cases not in the way that seemed obvious...

Kring regrets sticking Claire (Hayden Panettiere) with a super-dud boyfriend and forcing Hiro to moon over a cutesy princess. ''I've seen more convincing romances on TV,'' he admits. ''In retrospect, I don't think romance is a natural fit for us.''

Hiro's romance I don't mind that much - I like that it is corny...But West needs to go. I hope this quote is a sign that West will be out of the picture soon.

I agree, West needs to go. Out of all the characters, he's the one that I dislike.

I can deal with the slow pacing if it's building towards something important like the bomb or virus. My only gripe for instant gratification was for them to resolve last seasons issues earlier this season, instead of having to wait 9 episodes. We intially didn't get too many questions answered at the start of the season and then had to deal with the build up of the hooded killer and the virus. It just seemed like the give and take wasn't proportionate, leaving us with a lot to anticipate at a slower pace.

Why salvage West when Nathan can already fly? Unless West's flight is a sideffect from another power, like telekinesis...

Telekinesis, no. The ability to manipulate gravity, yes.

I hate that West character. Really. Probably my only complaint this season. And I don't like Burrito and Maya...

West is a young Magneto. "Well, you have powers, which makes you better than her."
West is the ultimate expression of those folks who think wearing the correct designer makes you better than others... it's just genes rather than jeans for him. No one likes those people and I think that's part of what everyone's picked up about him that's making them dislike him.

If that was the case, nobody would have liked the first season of Heroes.

Quoted for Truth. This is exactly how I see it.

Telekinesis, no. The ability to manipulate gravity, yes.

I would really like this to be Nathan's "advanced" power. After all, there should be a reason as to how he flies. It's obviously not wings, and he doesn't explode, so it's not any kind of jet propulsion. I don't see Nathan having telekinesis either.

That could very well be a reason. Good analysis. In fact he has a good personality that if scorned he could end up exactly like Magneto. Except for the fact that he's not clever or powerful enough. But I could certainly see him in a faction of mutants that wants to eliminate humans or something, because they think they're superior.

i think that that picture the blonde is Elle maybe she just shot HRG and someone tries to grab her to stop her
