Hieroglyph - FOX Gives Series Order to Ancient Egypt Drama

It looks ok but I could have done without the vampires. Lot of hot ladies in this.

Trailer

This trailer just screamed Game of Thrones trailer

Meh. That's about all I can say about that. Will watch the pilot tho.

Pretty irritated that Fox is bringing vampires into this. Is it not enough for a show to be set in one of the most fascinating times in human history? Why do they need to bring in vampires?

The trailer really wasn't that interesting. But I will still catch the pilot. Though my mexican third eye is seeing cancellation in it's future.

I would be more interested if this show was on Starz or HBO

Naturally it's a show in Egypt, starring a white guy. Who at least is a crimnal for once (but he's also their savior). I'm not really feeling it either with this trailer. It's Fox so already it has a mark against it possibly being cancelled early on. And it does have what is either a vampire or vampire-like monster, nothing specific to Egyptian lore like you'd expect which would be fine otherwise. Instead they're trying to cash in on that overdone craze.

And yep, has that GOT vibe too it which is what everyone is going for now that GOT is a ratings juggernaut. Of course being network TV it will be a pale comparison.

Still, might give it a try. Maybe they'll surprise me and not run it into the ground.

I don't see how they're trying to "cash in" on the vampire craze when there's literally only one shot that suggests vampires, the word is never uttered AND we don't know the context or, frankly, if it's even a vampire at all.

Heh. Exactly. Hollyweird kills me with this bull@#$%

I feel the same way - at least with Sleepy Hollow, the reason behind having one of the leads be a white male made sense within the era they pulled from.

With this one, it's very much a situation of "How the **** does that work logically?"

Okay, he has vampire-like teeth. If it isn't a vampire that still leaves the other problems.

Yeah, I didn't get vampire at all. It looked like the face changed as well, almost snake like from what I remember. So it's likely some possession or something by a god or demon or the like.

So it's like the From Dusk Till Dawn series with not vampires but snakes who happen to act like vampires...

Eh, I'll wait for the reviews before I decide to watch this.

From straight to series order, to cancelled? Talk about a 180.

Seems like a pretty solid example of why FOX is in the position it is now.

This show wishes it was Lone Star with that shows two aired episodes

The trailer didn't do much for me, but this is just bizarre. They might as well air what they've shot and see how it performs. To just can it before they see how it does makes no sense whatsoever.

This has been a weird trend of theirs for a while now. They order that show the Goodwin Games to air midseason for 13 episodes, along the way cut off the order at, like, six/seven episodes and decide to air it starting the end of May. Then the next season, they pick up that show with Jason Ritter and Alexis Bledel, film a couple episodes, pull the plug and decide not to air the filmed episodes at all, and now this?

The network tagline might as well be "We're FOX, and we like to flush our money away."

I'm actually surprised that Fox even picked this up in the first place. This seems like a show fit for a network like CW and not Fox.

Is it possible another network could buy the show or distribute it?

They've only shot one episode so far, according to the reports, so they'd still have to fund the filming of the rest of the season if they picked it up, most likely.

That sucks. I am guessing that FOX wasn't that happy with the pilot now that Reilly is gone and didnt have enough faith in it to budget it.

"Hi. We're Fox, and we pick things up to series only to decide never to air them a few months later."

 Jesus, what a s***-heap. Way to live down to expectations.

This is why you'd have to be a masochist to try and get a show made on one of the networks these days (if you're not a big, bankable name *). Can you imagine how the show-runner, writers and actors are feeling right now?

EDIT: *- I stand corrected. This guy wrote 'Pacific Rim.' So even if you are a big, bankable name! So if this guy gets that disrespected by the network, then unknowns are really screwed!
