The Pilot, highest rated show ever on the WB, if I recall correctly.

Yup!

According to Hollywood Reporter, the opening episode of the series pulled in WB's best numbers in adults 18-34 (4.5 rating/12 share), men 18-34 (5.0/14) and men 18-49 (3.9/10) up to that time.

The episode scored No. 1 in the hour in the network's target demos of teens, female teens and persons 12-34.

Overall, the series debut pulled in 8.35 million viewers, which landing the network in the number 3 spot for the hour, ahead of ABC and Fox.

Edit: Crusade pulled in 6.07 million viewers overall.

I'm pretty sure "Rosetta" is right below the pilot.

Such BS, but I guess those are opinions.

Horrible ep compared to now? How can you compare the beginning of a show to a Season 6 episode? SV's pilot remains one of the best pilot's I've ever saw, & I'm sure it's on top on many people's lists.

The actors back then were inexperienced, which is what made it so great, without that inexperience it wouldn't have been so sincere & genuine, now they've simply matured.

just saw it again a few nights ago

horrible ep compared to now

they got so much better in terms of acting

TW is still wooden as hell though

are you serious? i just recently watched it as well and while it's true that everyone's acting has improved a LOT since then, i still believe that the Pilot is the quintessential episode of Smallville - i think they got everything right in that episode.

i just hope the series finale does justice to the pilot and serves as the perfect bookend to it...

You think Tom is wooden in his acting?

I think you need to look a little closer... He was amazing in Phantom and the Pilot, if you see it again, actually has some very good moments from him.

I think he was a natural and has been good from the get go. He was amazing in the show he had a recurring role on before Smallville, Judging Amy.

I think a lot of people assume he's more or less playing himself with Clark because he seems so natural, but he's actually quite good.

Tom was a little rough around the edges during Season 1 but has gotten progressively and noticeably better with each season. To describe him as still being "wooden as hell" would be erroneous.

Although he wasn't as consistant most of that first season, I think the pilot was a wonderful bit of work from him.

It showed his potential. Despite some rough episodes, he has become far more consistant. He's learned a lot since then...

His acting now is not at all wooden.

While I do think that Tom has come to "own" this role, you can see the progress he's made when you watch some of the earlier episodes.

BUT, I do think that the type of character that Tom has to portray is a vastly more difficult character to project convincingly. Clark Kent is the classic 'aw shucks' good guy, dripping with sincerity and little if any cynicism. John Glover acknowledge the extreme difficulty of portraying Clark Kent after he filmed Transference and had to walk in Tom's shoes a bit. Glover's a guy who's been around the acting block quite a bit and therefore, he would know.

I think Tom's early Clark Kent almost perfectly reflected the naivette and sincerity of a young Clark Kent.

Quoted for truth.

awesome! cookie?

u just said what i said

the actors HAVE gotten better, there is no denyin that

but watching phantom last night again especially proved to me

that tom is wooden as hell

his emotional scene w/ lionel after lana dies.... LOL wow strong fake crying
his confrontation with lex... wow strong overacting.... i LOLed hard when he said 'you don't know? lana is dead! you killed her!' loloollolol

You must be getting confused with Tobey's crying scene. Clark wasn't supposed to burst out in tears during that scene anyway, especially infront of Lionel Luthor lol.

Maybe because he knows Lana isn't really dead. His heartbreak in Reckoning when she had really died was top notch acting.

All I know, is the opening sequence of the Piolet was golden. Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a better opening 5 minutes of a show. Well, maybe Lost, but it's hard to judge.

I totally disagree.

I think the emotion he had for Lana's death was real. I don't believe he knows about it...

We all know how bad a liar Clark is. No way he'd be able to pull that off.

I think if anyone colluded with Lana to fake the death, I think it's more than likely Oliver. He has the money and he has at least some vested interest in protecting her since she helped find some of the 33.1 stuff for Lionel and MM.

He'd want to protect her in return for her help.

I liked avid's theory that Lex actually faked the death and has Lana locked up somewhere. It would be in perfect keeping with his character. The implication has been that he's coveted her since the first season... He did everything he could do this season to keep her, even orchestrating a complicated and bizarre conspiracy to make her believe she was pregnant.

That is not a man who would just let her walk away. He wants to keep her in his posession.

He looked distraught enough when Clark confronted him but he's a better liar than Clark...

It could be they haven't decided who did what yet, or maybe they're working it out now since (according to DeKnight) they're already back at work and they'll start filming sometime later this month.

I'm with Triple T there. Clark was pretty well pissed off about what happened to her. He had a chance to go off with her peacefully and have some kind of happiness until that happened and it got to him. Or else he wouldn't have gone to Lionel threatening him.

i like the idea of lex keeping lana hostage as well.

that would be pretty damn evil.

as long as he doesn't do any sort of 'brainwashing' and then when clark finally rescues her she has 'amnesia'.

i could sooo see almiles doing something stupid like that.

no more secrets and lies between clark/lana. they'll need to figure out a way to keep them apart. they love the angst...
