Fantasy Highlander Remake

When is Reynolds going to do a Deadpool movie I thought after Green Lantern and then the Denzel Washington movie he did he would finally get to it.

Have patience, Fox can only **** up so many movies per year.

I'm one of the few who thinks that Reynolds is talented and I'm eh on him playing the lead in this.

I think Reynolds is talented, too. It's just that he's miscasted and typecasted in so many mediocre or bad films.

That's why I think he'd make the perfect Deadpool. That character wisecracks, breaks the fourth wall and still kicks ass. Reynolds was practically born to play that character.

I have already had my doudts on deadpool actully being made.If Reynolds Is up for lead In another big film and we hear nothing on deadpool I think It Is safe to assume Deadpool Isn't happening.

As for Highlander It Is going to depend on the script and director.Reynolds doesn't mean It would be crap.

I think Tom Hiddleston would be an interesting choice for Conner. Reynolds needs to stop being cast in leading man action/superhero roles (aside from Deadpool) and stick to romantic comedies.

Are you guys and gals sure that Reynolds would be playing Connor McLeod? Are we sure where this film is headed? It may be called Highlander for recognition (if there's any left) purposes, but it may be like the Karate Kid (in which there was no Karate).

I lov Reynolds, but he needs to pick better scripts. Fireflies in the Garden, Chaos Theory, Buried, Smoking Aces, he's been fantastic in all of them, imo. Under the right director, he'll be great.

PS: F**k no to Butler. The guy is a charisma sucker. He's been terrible in everything except 300 and maybe the Ugly Truth. Imo.

I have no problem with Ryan Reynolds in a Highlander remake, as long as he has his serious acting hat on for it...

Have to say I thought Gerard Butler was great in Law abiding citizen.

I haven't watched Highlander in a looooong time. Though from re-watching some clips on youtube, Lambert wasn't the serious business type all the time and did have some one liners, but I hope the comedy rumors aren't true.

This level of fun would be perfect imo. Any more would already be too much.

Hm, I'd use that scene as an example of too much fun.

Connor in the original HL was a cynic and disillusioned. I loved that it was a struggle to get his humanity and emotions back. But this one doesn't haver to be the same, especially if they're going for a franchise and don't end things from the 1st one. Heck, like I said before, Connor doesn't have to be the hero!

Agreed about Butler, he sucks most of the time.

With Reynolds as front runner it is on the way .... of ruin.

I like how dramatic this posts sounds. Like this guy is in an Roland Emmerich movie trying to warn the Vice President of an incoming planetary calamity.

I will be honest, I don't like Reynolds acting and I think he as a "goofy/I am not very-smart-face" ( IMO ). I don't know the guy himself and I am sure he is fine but as an actor, I don't like him.

I saw him in Wolverine, Buried and Green Lantern and except for Buried, I just saw R Reynolds playing R Reynolds.
Maybe he is good in comedies but that genre doesn't interest me.

Highlander is one of the very ( very ) few good movies with Lambert, I would like someone good if not great to replace him.

PS : damn, I sound like a drama queen :(

I thought that Highlander was an endlessly mediocre cheese fest that had an interesting plot. It shouldn't be hard to top it IMHO.

Rewatching some of the fights, they weren't really all that great. Well, by today's standards. Although the fight against Donnie Yen in Endgame was awesome.

@ I SEE SPIDEY ( forget to quote )

Maybe it is but it is also cult classic and if it was that bad it wouldn't have 2 sequels, 2 TV shows and 2 or 3 TV movies ( note : I only really like the first movie ).

We shall see if it is that easy to top hit.

I never stated that you or anyone had to agree with my opinion of the film.

I loved the first film... I think it was directed by Russell Mcsomething who came straight from directing MTV videos lol. The first film was so over the top it was a delight for me but Queen's score is what ended up making it a cult classic... along with Connery playing a spaniard/egyptian/asian with a scot accent!

I am SOOO not down with RR in a remake of this. I never saw anything on the sequels ( I heard they were terrible) and did happen to enjoy a season or two of the TV show. I'm 50/50 on this unless they show me something really exciting like a great director or plot.

I like Reynolds and feel he's underrated as an actor (and he will continue to be forever on these boards, because so many people hated Green Lantern). And yeah, I have to say I'm a bit puzzled as to why he's being targeted for this. I'm guessing that they want to inject some humor into it (though Reynolds can play serious very well, even if no one wants to believe that). But I still have trouble seeing it, especially when you can turn on an episode of Game of Thrones and pick out at least five different actors who would be a better fit. And it's not like Reynolds is a major box office draw; GL flopped and Safe House was a hit, but he also had Denzel with him in that film.

Highlander is supremely cheesy but I do think it has the potential to be really epic and awesome. It's a bit like Star Trek really; with the exception of Wrath of Khan, the older Trek films all felt like average sci-fi films done on the cheap. But as we saw with Abrams' Trek, there is the potential there to really make an awesome popcorn flick with the right cast, director and budget.

I've had problems with RR going back wayyy before Lantern. I'm sorry but I'd watch Kim Kardashian in ANY movie before I subjected myself to Van Wilder in a remake/reboot of Highlander (I acknowledge that is a gigantic stretch). My main problem with him is as someone mentioned previously that he's RR in every movie he's in. He needs to shave his head or erase his sideburns ala Cage to distinguish himself away from his fratboy persona.

Hey if Chris Evans can do it anyone can!

problem is Reynolds always plays Reynolds

he is no chris evans who i feel is a superior actor

his hal jordan should not of been as ryan reynolds as it was

ryan cant disappear in a character imo

This movie has mega-flop written all over. The original Highlander was only a success in that it became a cult classic. Remaking it, undermines it's cult status. the sequels were complete and utter ****. The TV show had a pretty good following, but the movies based on the TV show never made an impact.

The thing is though, there are many actors who haven't really disappeared into roles and have still had great careers. I think you guys are overrating Chris Evans a bit; I like him a lot, but I wouldn't say that he "disappeared" into the Captain America role. He was less jokey and silly than he was in the F4 movies, but it's not like I was astonished that it was the same actor playing both parts, you know?

Not everyone has to be Daniel Day Lewis. Reynolds might not completely disappear into a role, but he's not always Mr. Frat Boy Rom-Com. He's been very good (and serious) in Buried, Smokin' Aces and other films.

I don't despise "every" RR performance and I agree I thought he was tolerable in Smokin' Aces given the material. My problem with RR is that it isn't exactly inspired casting when it comes to a film where you had Connery vs Clancy Brown vs Lambert. Lambert had sort of an odd Euro blue collar charisma going for him against Connery's machismo and Brown's comically overthetop evilness.

The whole point of Highlander.. and what made it a great cult classic.. was that *&#@ shouldn't have worked. I know a lot of people who still think it didn't... but coming from a guy who thinks Con Air should have received an Oscar don't be too suprised I think Highlander is a piece of art in a funny sort of way! :jedi

LOL at the Con Air comment. But I do agree, Reynolds feels really wrong for this. I try to be open to an actor (a talented one at least) trying on something completely against the grain, but I just can't help but feel there are so many better choices. I'd like to see them cast a real Scotsman this time, or at least a Briton. That's not saying they have to, but at least then you (probably) won't have to worry about people complaining about the accent.
