Fantasy Highlander Remake

James Purefoy - Connor McLeod

He's got a certain "vague" resemblance to Christopher Lambert, indeed. Heck, I think Purefoy could have been an excellent Highlander-lead in the tv series just as Adrian Paul turned out to be.

On a related note, Solomon Kane comes out on BluRay/dvd next week. Hopefully it will become an instant cult-hit like Dredd, as I see its director, Michael J. Bassett, as someone with a lot of potential for doing a new Highlander film, as he has claimed the original an all-time favorite.

Why is this a non opinion?

Acting is simply a job. What an actor wants to do with his name and 'brand' is up to him.

I never mentioned a hot girlfriend....that has nothing to do with his acting. If he is constantly getting films that means a steady paycheck. Something most people need.

Picking what scripts will do well and only doing those films is a tough ability to do and not every actor, even the best ones may be able to afford to wait for the next A++ film. Also have to take into account that sometimes risks on films that MAY do great just don't pan out. All you can really do is your best and hope people see that you did well given the material you are in and the people you are working with. Just like any other job.

I don't make up excuses for actors, but they need to get paid just like I do. I'm not going to hold it against someone for doing B and C films in between A films of there preferred style.

Maybe I'm just not a fan of your non-opinion that all actors need to be held up on some odd pedestal that if they are in bad films they are horrid actors.

I see what you're saying but you're stating the obvious, and it leaves no room for discussion because you can excuse any actor for any reason. It's like the deus ex machina of a conversation stopper.

Some of these choices seem a bit to old, closer to Ramirez's age.
Wasn't Connor McLeod supposed to be in his 20's - late 20's tops?
Flash-backs as kind of an innocent wide eyed neophyte who needs to be trained, flash-forwards physically the same young man, but now with the unflinching strength and weight of the world and experience behind him.

As odd as Lambert's casting was(mostly his accent), once you got passed that he did seem to genuinely convey both, it's that quirkiness that sold it. I'm sure there's some that can convey both, but allot of the guys listed already seem to be so firmly in the later camp, suddenly seeing them play the young naif will read false.

That's an interesting idea. I had some issues with Solomon Kane story-wise, but visually it was great and Purefoy was magnificent. Perhaps if Bassett was brought on board this project, he'd cast Purefoy.

Not exactly my first choice to play Juan Ramirez...

I can see it, I just hope they keep the original QUEEN music.

Tom Cruise Courted to Co-Star in ‘Highlander’ Reboot

This deserves the biggest 'shut up and take my money' picture ever. But I'll have to make due with this one.

I'm a HUGE Queen fan...and I'm all for keeping the original music. If they MUST change...then I absolutely oppose the idea of a new band stepping in to do the soundtrack. There is no band around today that can follow Queen. As lame as it sounds, I'd rather them have new bands cover Queen songs than have one band do a new soundtrack. But my first choice...yeah...Queen was already perfect.

Once again, Highlander still can't get its casting right. I mean, in the original film, they cast the only Scottish guy in the movie as an Spaniard/Egyptian, and now they want to put Tom Cruise in the role.

Still, that said, Cruise is awesome and he could probably rock that part.

Now... who should they cast as Connor? Glad Reynolds is off of this. Some thoughts on who could work...

Henry Cavill
Brenton Thwaites
Luke Evans
Richard Madden
Hans Matheson
Nicholas Hoult

Why don't they do a film about Ramirez or another member of clan McLeod set in the future? Highlander was a great film it will be almost impossible to remake it. If they do I hope they keep sequels in mind. The sequels to the original were all over the place.

Highlander is ripe for a remake. It's such a cool concept but the film itself is pretty ****ing lame. I mean, it's fun and like i said, the concept is awesome. But it was a shoddy movie. Even the sword fighting was crap and that was the main selling point!

No, it's a really entertaining film. Which is all that it needed to be. What I never got was why they tried to keep doing sequels to a film with such a clearly closed ending (and had to resort to incredibly contrivances as a result) when there was a much better and more natural option available. Do PREQUELS. Seriously, there have been A LOT of Immortals over thousands of years, make movies about some of them. Hell make a movie about Ramirez's life/adventures before he meets Connor. That would have worked so much better.

Tom Cruise is one of the finest Spanish actors out there.

Just like Sean Connery was. I can just picture that brain-storming session.

"Hey guys, we're doing a movie about a Scottish guy, with big chunks of it set in the Scottish Highlands. Who should we get to play the lead.

"How about Christopher Lambert?"

"Is he Scottish? Heck can he even speak English?

"No but who cares? He looks good."

"Genius. So who do we get to play the Egyptian who works for the King of Spain?"

"Oh I know, Sean Connery."

"But he's ACTUALLY Scottish, and we want him to play and Egyptian/Spaniard?"

"Why not, no one will know the difference?"

"Brilliant guys, all of you. Now let's go get lunch, meeting adjourned."

Bah you live somewhere long enough your accent changes. Who knows Ramirez might have lived in Scotland for a hundred years.

If you wanted authentic they wouldn't be speaking English.

You can't defend the casting for Highlander; but it's so one of the more chambering aspects of it. The inappropriate casting that is now deemed iconic.

Oh the performances are good enough, so I don't really have a problem with it. It's just that making jokes about it is fun. Lambert's accent actually works fine in the NYC scenes, when he's meant to be a guy who's travelled all over the world for centuries. So him having an accent that's kind of hard to place actually makes sense. It's only in the flashbacks with Ramirez that it gets entertainingly bad.

Speaking of casting, I wonder who they're looking at to play the Kurgen? Or will they just not use him again and make up their own villain instead?
