Is it a different actor playing Ecbert's son? In some parts he looked like a different guy, or maybe I need new spectacles.

I will go with "new spectacles" :)
The character is more rugged looking than before, that's maybe it.

That Berserker guy is in for one huge surprise when he eventually catches up with Bjorn Ironsides!

Finally we meet King Harald Finehair!

Bjorn vs ghost berserker was pretty cool. Bjorn stealing Torvi from Erlendur was a great revenge move.

Ragnar and Yidu's crazy drug trip was unexpected. I think in season one Ragnar had a mushroom trip if I remember correctly. I think Ragnar swallowed a snake at one point.

I wonder how Ragnar will feel about Aslaug handing over Ivar The Boneless to Floki.

Rollo won over Gisla. Awkward Christmas court dinner for the king with his daughter and son in law have loud sex in the pantry.

Judith sassing her dad King Aelle

Rollo winning over Gisla was too abrupt. Not sure how much time has passed, but he was sruggling to speech french last ep, now this ep he's speaking it fluently and now she's all over him…? From the very beginning, i suspected she was attratcted to him but she's was just disgusted by herself for being so, so put on a front….then in this ep, she just gave in to it …i guess……anyhow, glad to see they're making up for lost time. :D

I believe that the Rollo plot is on a different timeline than the rest of the show. It would take potentially a few months (as a modest estimate) for the request for the annulment to get to Rome and for the cardinal to travel to Paris. It was also supposed to have taken most of them a while to get back to Kattegat, but the destruction of the camp would probably have happened within a couple months of Ragnar's departure. Certainly they would not have waited several months to a year just to marry Rollo to Gisla to seal his defection.
It also might have been much easier for a Scandinavian to learn Medieval Frankish since from the recent work on the linguistics (actually sparked by the show's hiring of a scholar to research it) place it as not yet diverged from the Germanic languages. So accepting a different timeline Rollo learned Frankish over the course of several months from highly skilled tutors, a tough grind but perfectly plausible.

A related note, the quick learning of Old English is credible since Old English and Old Norse were pretty close languages (divergence and mutation of languages happens over centuries) and some of them might have already spoken even closer languages like Frisian.

Bjorn Ironside ! The gutting of the Berserker was great.

Rollo finally won over Gisla, as Golgo-13 said, she was already "hot" for him but he was still a barbarian beast to her eyes until he could speak his heart in Frankish. Don't forget that the show use huge time jump, we don't know how much time have passed.

Ragnar vs Harald will be fun.

The pace of this season isn't very good. I was worried this might happen when they decided to do a longer season.

Season 1 had an amazing pace, but yeah this season has been a lot of build up.

I think this season is split in two as well. So if the front half is all build up thats going to suck.

I'm enjoying the pace, it's moving at a fine speed. I also keep forgetting there's more episodes!

I liked Ragnar's trip in the cabin, was it opium? There was a lot of humor in this episode, between the drug trip and Rollo's Christmas dinner.

Bjorn's fight with the berserker was great. I was kind of hoping Bjorn would get the berserker to teach him his ghostly ways, but gutting him was fine too.

Gettin' kind of tired of Auslaug. It's easy to see how her and Ragnar's marriage is a sham at this point, their personalities don't mesh at all.

Rollo's timeline moving at a different speed than Ragnar's is an interesting thought, I hadn't considered that. Makes sense, it occurred to me during the episode that people in this show do seem to learn languages very quickly, but I think it has more to do with the timelines moving around abruptly and without warning, or often any say so.

I wonder who Yidu was before she was taken by pirates. A princess of some kind? She dodged the question.

Floki's visit with The Seer was interesting too, who do those two think Floki is? I'm guessing Loki...?

The pace has been slow but somehow it feels faster to me than last year's. At least it gives us time to enjoy the differences between the cultures, like the various way they celebrate their winter holidays.

Does Bjorn know Kalf sent the berserker? If he does, he shouldn't've left Lagertha alone with him. Hell, he should've killed Kalf.

I'm rather surprised Gisla's father was going to allow her to leave Rollo, given that they were counting on him to defend Paris.

I have a feeling Aelle will tangle with Ecbert or Kwenthrith and will regret it.

Finally we meet King Harald Finehair!

Do we know who he is? Has he been mentioned on the show before, or is a historical figure? Regardless, I'm already liking the character. I wonder if he'll team up with Aslaug to try and take out Ragnar.

I kept expecting Bjorn to stab Kalf in the neck or something, but he seemed content to let him stew. It wouldn't have played out well, Bjorn and Lagertha would have been instantly surrounded by enemies. I'm not sure he knew for sure either, just strongly suspected. Why he didn't reveal the ring, or the assassin's head, I'm not sure.

Regarding Gisla, I think that is the very reason she publicly declared her desire for divorce. In front of the King's court with so many witnesses, her father couldn't hide any of it. Plus, he's a coward.

I think Bjorn is being like his father, he wants to be methodical in taking him out.

Really enjoyed the last few episodes, especially Rollo being able to speak and be the big sap he is. Especially speaking of Destiny. Her icy demeanor melted.

He's a historical figure, hasn't been heard before on the show.

I think it was mushroom, Opium comes from poppy and need to be harvested / conditioned.

In blunt : that was very nice, it gave a mystical vibe to the Berserker.

He does. It's why he came for that other guy's wife (can't think of his name); it's like the ultimate insult to a guy in his position. Didn't Lagertha swear she was going to kill Kaif, or does she now have feelings for him?

Anyhow, i think Bjorn was thinking strategically by not letting them know he knew it was them. Remember, they don't even know that the Berserker guy is dead…so they're not sure what they should do next……

The twists and turns keep on coming!

Little Ivar's got that Viking blood running deep, I think!

The logic with the last scene is a bit skeptical but sure, I guess I can buy that everyone just doesn't question their new ruler lol. :b

Vikings has been renewed for season 5 which will also be 20 episodes long! Jonathan Rhys Meyrs has been cast, could he be Alfred the Great?

Ill be surprised if he isn't fired after one season.
