I am so looking forward to get my blue rays of season 3 next week. I'm excited to see the episodes again and curious what got left out of the US broadcasts.

As for season 4 being longer, I'm glad for it though I'm hoping it's not too much longer (maybe a 12-14 episode season) since as people have pointed out shows can feel really stretched out when they try to have a single season's plot cover 20+ episodes. It also wears down the cast and crew.

It's 20 episodes for Season 4.

Clive Standen said recently at an interview they just shot 10 episodes and were taking a break then going back to Ireland to film the remaining 10 episodes.

Network Increases Original 16 Episode Order with Additional Four Episodes

New York, NY – December 17, 2015 – HISTORY’s hit drama series “Vikings” returns for a gripping fourth season led by Travis Fimmel, star of the upcoming film Warcraft, on Thursday, February 18 at 10 p.m. ET. The network has added four episodes to its initial 16 episode order. Beginning February 18, a new episode will air every Thursday for ten weeks with the remaining episodes to air later in the year.

Season three culminated with the extraordinary battle in Paris, where Ragnar (Fimmel) seized victory from the jaws of defeat – but still returns to Kattegat dangerously ill. Thoughts of his death galvanize the forces who seek to succeed him as king, including his wife Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) and his oldest son, Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig). Meanwhile, Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) continues power struggles with her calculating, former second in command, Kalf (Ben Robson); Rollo (Clive Standen) betrays his Vikings heritage by remaining in Frankia and Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård) is seized for his brutal actions to the Christian priest Athelstan.

Joining the stellar cast this season is Peter Franzén (The Gunman) as “King Harold Finehair,” a complex character who seeks to be King of Norway and a potential threat to Ragnar; Jasper Pääkkönen (Jet Trash) as “Halfdan The Black,” King Harold’s violent younger brother; and Dianne Doan (“Descendants&#8221 as “Yidu,” a completely different character within the world of the Vikings who fascinates Ragnar.

I'm not debating his return, he's in the trailer so it's obvious he's back.

I still can't get the queen's 'ear cutting right after giving birth' torture scene out of my head. Even though it wasn't overly graphic, her acting in the scene sold it.....

Jennie Jacques did a great job in that scene, but Linus Roache gave it a whole other dimension since it's so damned hard to pin down what Ecbert is going to do and why.

Also props to the Michael Hirst for giving context, as the scene shows the practice and how they justified it along with pointing out that it's not actually from the tradition they claim it is.

I can't wait for this show to come back. Having additional episodes is just gravy, especially given the first 3 seasons feel truncated in many way. I had my doubts about History Channel doing a show like this, but it really shocked me how it pulled me in.
