I'm also glad to see Ivar the Boneless as such a fierce and happy boy, wonder will they age these kids up further next season or something. :p

They might do it this season.

I believe that the Ivar the Boneless character was called Einar in the film from the 1950s and was portrayed by Kirk Douglas.

And I believe that the child Magnus that Ragnar has fathered with Queen Kwenthrith will be the Eric character as portrayed by Tony Curtis. So there is still quite a bit of the saga that may unfold in coming series - looking forward to it!

Ah, you believe after episode 10 they will do a time jump?

Im not sure if it will happen after episode 10, but given the length of this season Ill be very surprised if they dont do a time jump at some point this season.

I was kind of underwhelmed with last nights episode, but it was still solid.

That rescue of the princess at the fort sequence was awesome.

Bit of a cooldown episode, but I still enjoyed it.

I assume Floki won't be water tortured forever, so I'm interested to see where his story goes. Same with Bjorn being in the wilderness.

Poor Rollo being laughed at by Gisla! He really did look hilarious with that Frankish haircut, though.

I even find the shenanigans going on in the Frankish and English courts intriguing.

I almost felt bad for Rollo...... almost. :p

Two big ambushes this week! Lagertha's admirer having the naysayers to her jarldom gunned...err, arrowed down and Rollo's nasty betrayal of his own people.

I wonder if they're setting Floki to be a full on villain. Driven mad my Ragnar's torture? I did think for a moment that Ragnar was plotting to kill Floki's wife for the unending torment he promised.

What did everyone think of Ragnar slapping Queen Aslaug around? If I recall correctly he and Lagertha had a scrap or two back in the day, but it seemed far more even as far as the violence being dished out. In Aslaug's case it seemed completely one sided.

Yes! At first I wasn't too excited about British VS British, but man, the more it went on, the more the music built up, it was pretty darn spectacular!

Floki's Jesus on the cross with rainfall baptism style punishment was pretty clever

Ragnar hitting Auslaug didn't really bother me because Ragnar's a Viking, not a 21st century man. Different times and all.

That's kind of my perspective on it as well. Different rules, we can't necessarily apply how own modern morals on peoples of a different time and culture. If Aslaug were a man I wouldn't have even bought it up, but it's interesting to gauge other people's reactions.

Also, kinda reminiscent of Loki's punishment, where he is bound in a cave while a snake drips it's venom on his his face.

Agreed. We have seen Vikings murder, rape, enslave, desecrate
and pillage. One of the strengths of the show is that they don't sugar coat the ugly side of the culture and times.

I've always liked that a lot about Vikings as well. They're total bastards, and the show doesn't ever shy away from it. I guess when put up against how Ragnar makes his living, slapping his wife a couple of times is small potatoes.

I do not see them following the plot of that movie. There are many different and contradictory stories of Ragnar which is a large part of what gives Michael Hirst creative license. I think Magnus (btw does not become a Scandinavian name till later on and was derived from the Frankish honorific for great) is a way of acknowledging one of the tropes from the sagas that mention Ragnar as fathering children in every country where he fought.

Ragnar had its reason, he was extremely annoyed by the whole Floki affair and how it turned out, he knows his wife ( and probably knows she cheated him ) so when she came at him saying that Floki did nothing wrong he was of course furious. Aslaug doesn't understand ( or she does but don't care ) that it is a matter of loyalty and trust ( to quote Ragnar ), Ragnar was frustrated, hence the slapping. Bromance is a delicate matter :)

Historians think Horik was one of the basis's for Ragnar.

Man, that was some corny battle lol. :b Good episode overall, even though it is a slow climb (compared to previous seasons).

I can't wait until that berserker catches up with Bjorn. That dude was seriously scary.

Judith's an idiot if she thinks Ecbert vowing his respect to her means anything. She's gonna get played, big time, and I won't feel sorry for her.

Athelstan and Kwenthrith are kinda cute together.

I'm glad Floki's torture is over with because it was so uncomfortable to watch.

Is it a different actor playing Ecbert's son? In some parts he looked like a different guy, or maybe I need new spectacles.

I'm enjoying Bjorn's adventures in the wilderness. Couldn't help but think of The Revenant this episode, though Bjorn fared considerably better than Hugh Glass. I hope there's some twist coming with The Berserker, if it's just going to be a fight in the snow that seems kind of predictable and a bit straight forward for this show.

Also, Travis Fimmel is a great actor. I don't always notice it, but he really stood out this episode, especially in the scene where he seemed to hear Bjorn scream.

^ Fimmel is amazing.

His name is Aethelwulf. Athelstan was Ragnar's friend that Floki killed.
