Indeed he did. But then again, he did take them completely by surprise. If it was a full-on battle, though, the fight would have been a helluva lot more interesting.

After evolving into Parasite 2.0, he discovers that he can now absorb inertia. Kind of a "oh s**t" moment when you stop and think about the kind of threat he now presents.

Superman's first fight with John Corben. Messy.

And when the Parasite evolved into Parasite 2.0. I swear when I saw this moment for the first time back in the 90's when I was just a little kid, I nearly had a heart attack, I was so freaked out.

He got there eventually, so it all worked out. Until he died and was replaced by a teenybopper, that is.

I still don't understand how kryptonite would "kill" him after he's shown in the past that he can regenerate his entire body (bigger and better) after being burnt down to his skeleton. Hopefully Superman/Batman #28 will shed some light on that.
