I think he qualifies as a "big character" because he had his own title for several years but I would have to say Captain Atom. As funny as some of those Maxwell Lord Justice Leagues were with useless heroes like Blue Beetle and Booster Gold making me laugh my arse off, I can't remember many great moments with Captain Atom. I don't remember a SINGLE storyline from his now discontinued solo title. His origin is boring. His outfit is boring. Even his "death" in the Superman/Batman Vengeance storyline was boring. The guy spends 30 minutes crying about how he could never live up to anyone's expectations as he blasts into a giant kryptonie meteor. And that's maybe the only storyline I can remember from Captain Atom. For me, he's the most boring "big character" in the DC universe.

there are no boring characters, only characters written by brad meltzer...

Read Captain Atom: Armagedon and tell me he's a boring character.

This may unintentionally turn into a very good recommendations thread as people throw out compelling storylines to refute allegations of boredom. :oldrazz:

for me the two characters who equal boring to me are aquaman and green arrow...
they may have had decent storylines perhaps for some...but i never warmed to them.

for me dc is all about superman, batman and wonder woman.

Ya, Aquaman is a good one. I kind of like GA. He may be useless in the powers department, but his attitude is different than most heroes. That human is very human. LOL

Seconded. Actually exactly what I was going to say before I was Anubis said it.

Thing is I think this thread is a bit flawed. It's not always the character but more the writer. Take the ultimate boring character Hal Jordan, But in New Frontier or JLA: Year One or written by Marz he is a good character. I wouldn't have given Elongated Man the time of day till Identity Crisis - Ralph was just that funny stretching guy from JLI then he took on a whole new quality. Again I can't stand Oliver Queen in his solo with Winick but when written by Brad Meltzer (and just about everyone else) he's a fantastic character.

I just think it's incredibly difficult to blanket a character like that.

Saying that... I can't think of one time I've ever liked Hawkgirl.

P.S. Aquaman ****ing rocks.

Generally I find Superman to be the most boring character, Too powerful, and Kryptonite, magic, and red sun energy stories get old fast. Whose idea was it that Red Sun energy would weaken him anyway? That's like saying that my plans are going to die if I shine a red light on them. It's not like the red sun energy crowds out the other wavelengths or something.

The only boring big character in DCU is Hal Jordan. Nothing but elseworlds stories can save him. After all, the sole stories where he doesn't suck are New Frontier and JLA:Year One. Both are not in continuity. Besides, Parallax was the only interesting thing to happen to him and of course Geoff Johns had to completely reverse any and all sins comitted during that period.

What about Brave and the Bold: Flash & Green Lantern? That's in-continuity, and pretty damn good.

I also think his appearances in the new Brave and the Bold series have been quite good.

If anything, I think Hal's a character that's only boring when placed in the wrong hands. In the right hands (like Mark Waid), he's a perfectly acceptable character.

Some said freaking Green freaking Arrow is a boring character?

WTF????

Ollie Queen is one of the few comic characters that is badass simply for his character alone...

No, he's still written badass by Winick.

Yes, he is. You must be holding your comics upside down.

Honestly, I didnt care for that mini. I did enjoy seeing Barry, but the reason I enjoyed Hal in JLA was because he thought he was the leader, showboating, when it was clear to everyone that Barry was the main guy of the JLA. That was the first and alone time I saw Hal as neither dull or a *****e.

Honestly, the only part of the BaB that I liked was the Kid Lantern issue. To me, that was the sole part that really got into the dynamic between Barry and Hal. Besides, it was Barry that really kept that issue going anyways. Look at his actual comic.

How many people constantly say this book is going nowhere? If it wasnt for the Sinestro Corps, the book would be pointless. DC had to can a Hal Jordan GL book, what.... three times or so? It just doesnt make sense to bring him back. He was interesting as Specter, tragic as Parallax. This return to status quo, reusing all the same plotlines, its just lame.

There are no boring characters. Ultimately it's all opinion, and lets face it, opinions are like butt holes, everybodies got one, and they all stink...except for mines. It smells like cini-buns. :o

Oh, I wouldn't ever defend the current GL series. And you are right; Paralax pretty much is what defines his character. But at least he had Paralax. Dudes like Aquaman and WW never did. :o

Throughly agree--when he wasn't Parallax or The Spectre, he sucked. Not sure about New Frontier or JLA: YO, since I haven't read those, but still. :o
