Horror Comics Thread

I think it might be quarterly. This issue says #2 is set to come out in October. So then issue 3 might be in January or February. Then April or May for #4.

I'd love to buy the HC stuff, but i never have the money for it.

A quarterly release-schedule is cool with me!

I also hear ya about the hardcovers, very cool indeed, but I could either get one of those, or get my monthly pulls, but just can't swing both...sigh decisions, decisions...

:bh:

Rob Zombie and Steve Niles " Bigfoot" from IDW was good. It had artwork by Richard Corben. Clive Barker's " NightBreed" from Marvel's epic was also a good horror book. The cover with the porcupine lady still gives me the creeps to this day.

Putting Corben on a horror book your gauranted a great read.

Is anyone reading Locke & Key? I don't know if that'd be defined as a horror title but its pretty close and awesome

Hmmm..is it that good? I thought it looked kinda appealing, but you know the ol' story...so many books, so little money! :oldrazz:

well pick up the first HC Locke & Key: Welcome to Lovecraft.. I was about to say it's cheap but it's still $16.50 on Amazon. I really enjoyed it though. it creates a really fun world full of weird magical keys and so far it hasn't been predictable. the first HC wraps things up really well and opens the door for the future of the series. The second series Locke & Key:Head Games(6 issues) just wrapped up so it'll probably be out in HC in the next 2 months. The ending of Head Games left a lot of things open and didn't seem really wrap things up, but I feel like they did it on purpose cause each series is going to be a chapter in the big story. the third series Locke & Key: Crown Of Shadows starts in Oct/Nov so the is plenty of time to catch up.

I really didn't care about this series when the first series was coming out. Every comic review show kept talking about it and one day I was ordering like 20-30 trades off Amazon and I said one more wouldn't hurt so I just added it to check it out. It sat on the bottom for the most part and then one day I needed something to read and it caught me totally off guard. I was shocked at how much I enjoyed. the writing is nearly perfect and Gabriel Rodriguez's art works so well with this title. its fun, dark, scary, imaginative, and it's slowly helped me branch off from just reading Marvel/DC books which up until lately was all I bought. I'd be buying Hack/Slash if my shop carried it.

for Hack/Slash am I better off just getting the 2 Omnibuses that are on the DDP site?

Hmmm..well, maybe I'll take a look for the first tpb and see what kind of price I can find for it..I totally forgot about the Lovecraft part..maybe I had that mixed up with another series..ah well. Thanks for the info!

Got FVJVA Issue 2 and got done reading it. This is when the action begins to pick up. So far not bad, and some characters from both NOES and F13 return in a big way. If you're a big fan and you pay attention to the films, you'll know who is who.

Wow, no mention of Strange Embrace yet? If you're truly a fan of old school horror back int he Black and White film days, this is a book for you and it will in fact seriously get under your skin and creep you out. I highly recommend it to ANYONE.

Look up reviews for it. There's hardly a bad review you'll stumble upon. The only downside is the fact that not a lot of people know of the book.

Is that FVJVA the first one or the sequel?

I really enjoyed the Nightmare On Elm Street comics. There were some really good story arcs. Like the one where the kids summon an Aztec dream demon to battle freddy. Or the one where Freddy's intended victim's dad is a soldier who's able to control his dreams. They started a sequel with a little girl from that story who's able to control her dreams and she keeps stopping Freddy from killing his victims. Unfortunately they stopped publishing them after that.

I also really liked the Friday The 13th comics. My favorite story arcs are Pamela's Tale and My Worst Summer Vacation. I'd always wondered about Pamela's background. And we actually get to see another side of Jason in the other story.

In the late '90s there was a Halloween comic. Issue #1 was called Behind The Mask. It was about the first seven years Michael Myers was in the mental hospital. There were several unexplained deaths amongst the other patients in the youth ward. And when Michael was 15, he killed Dr. Loomis's fiance. Which is why Dr. Loomis stopped trying to reach him and started trying to keep him locked away.

I didn't really care much for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre comics though. Although they did include the cannibalism in the stories, unlike the movie that they were based on.

Well, this is a little late...I COMPLETELY forgot to post my comments about the first issue of Dark Horse's Creepy!! So better late then never...

I totally enjoyed the first issue! I liked the fact that there were no ads really to speak of in the whole book, and the ones that were related to the Creepy franchise...just like in the ol' magazine!

In fact, that was the main overriding impression throughout the whole book..it seemed like the comic picked right back up where the original book had left off..and I think it's a good thing!

I dug the majority of the art in the book and liked the quirkiness of the majority of the stories..especially "The Curse"..the story of "Pie"..and the "weight-loss" camp...(although that story might have been more gruesome had it been in color..but alas...minor details folks!)

Overall..very much looking forward to the next installment here in month or so.... :woot:

Sorry for my slightly late response, but FVJVA is the first one and the sequel is FVJVA: The Nightmare Warriors.

Thanks for the clarification. I also really enjoyed FVJVA. I've flipped through FVJVA: The Nightmare Warriors issues # 1 & 2. They look pretty good. The writers are uniting the survivors from several movies to form a sort of "task force". Issue #2 ends with Tommy Jarvis coming in. I'm looking forward to reading future issues.

Me too, the third issue should be out any day by now. The first FVJVA was very entertaining and made me wish it had been made into a film like it was initially supposed to be.

Well with all the comic books being made into films these days, it may happen yet.

Another favorite of mine is Hack/Slash. The Chucky comics are pretty good too.

IIRC, it didn't get made because Sam Raimi didn't want it to be.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was supposed to be the last Jay & Silent Bob movie, then Kevin Smith made Clerks 2. Friday The 13th Part 4 was supposed to be the last Friday The 13th movie in the series. Then they saw how much money it made, and decided to make Friday The 13th Part 5. So never say never my friend.

Would be nice to see it realized onscreen, someday. Even with NOES having been remade with a new actor as Freddy, it can still be done.

I'd still prefer seeing Freddy vs Jason vs Ash with Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger, Kane Hodder as Jason, and Bruce Campbell as Ash.

^^^ I agree with this! That's a bought movie ticket from my end if that's the cast!!! :woot:

I'd love to see that as well. I wouldn't mind Kane Hodder back as Jason, but he wasn't my favorite (IMO CJ Graham, Ted White and Derek Mears are the best Jasons. I'd like to see how Mears would portray Zombie Jason).

I liked Ted White in Part 4 too. But it's been 25 years, I don't think he's as big as he used to be. Kane Hodder was the best Jason since Part 4.
