Looks very different and much more serialized than the usual CBS drama, and with a limited season run to boot, I'm very intrigued by this.

I really love what I'm seeing from CBS's new shows.

kinda sounds like a series from a few years back involving hostages in a bank... I THINK Kim Raver was in it... can't remember the name, cast or network...

that didn't last too long, if I remember correctly...

This looks great, but what is with Dylan McDermott wanting to kill the President this year? :oldrazz:

I'm guessing this is not something they are looking to get multiple seasons out of? Just a one off drama serial?

Really like how CBS is doing some limited-run, serialized dramas to break up their normal procedural stuff. Should have been the model for a recently-cancelled show like Vegas.

Hah I forgot McDermott was in Olympus has Fallen.

This kinda reminds me of Homeland.

Damn this looks good and there's a scene in the trailer that explains how it will at least extend the story over a season. I'm not sure I would have given the conspirator away in a trailer but I guess it depends on how soon into the show he is revealed as a conspirator.

The trailer has quite a few clips from the BTS but plenty of new stuff that really fleshes out how cool this concept is.

I just loved the glare she shot at the camera.

Exclusive: CBS' Hostages Grabs Hilarie Burton

Dr. Arizona Robbins’ loss is Tate Donovan’s gain.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Hilarie Burton — who is coming off a well-received, pot-stirring run on Grey’s Anatomy — has been grabbed by CBS’ Hostages.

The new thriller drama follows Dr. Ellen Sanders (played by Toni Collette), a top-shelf surgeon who with her family is abducted by terrorists the night before she is to operate on the President of the United States. Burton will recur as Samantha, an assistant to Tate Donovan’s Brian Sanders — aka Ellen’s secret-keeping, commercial real estate-dealing husband.

An alum of One Tree Hill, Burton’s other recent TV credits include White Collar and Castle.

Hostages premieres Sept. 23, airing Mondays at 10/9c.

hope this show lasts long. It looks really cool

I don't think it sucked at all. There just wasn't any surprise there at all, due to the trailers/promos essentially spoiling the entire pilot already. I might as well have skipped it and started watching with episode 2. Then, we'll see.

My favorite new pilot of last night. The characters were intriguing and while some reviews questioned that its wrong to care about the kidnappers rather than be afraid of them that's what I liked. I don't think they are bad guys, I think they're similarly hostages as well and yes doing this to keep his daughter safe. Which right there sets it apart from A LOT of hostage stories. Excited to see how things develop from there.

Watched this last night. Overall it was pretty solid, except for that stupid bank robbery scene at the very beginning. I get that they're trying to sell McDermott as this super-badass rockstar FBI agent, but that scene was just cheesy and unrealistic as hell. He might as well have shot the guy with his dong.

Other than that though I think it worked pretty well. I like how each family member (except Toni Collette, presumably) is hiding his or her own little secret. I'm especially glad that Tate Donovan is a bit of a sleaze... if the show would have tried to make me like him, I don't think I'd be able to watch it.

I'm not planning on watching this, but I loved Television Without Pity's summation of the pilot episode: "Hostages are taken hostage by a rogue hostage negotiator who negotiates hostages by day and takes hostages by night in a zero-sum hostaging situation."

I watched The Blacklist and kind of liked it better. Between that and it doing better ratings, I might just jump ship, considering how unforgiving CBS is about lower ratings.

CBS could be hurting if ratings for this don't pick up. They didn't really pick up a whole lot of shows so don't have many replacement opportunities (reruns most likely but also a return of H50 can't be ruled out.) I personally watched Blacklist and found it decent, but its numbers aren't the strongest either.

Uhh... it got over 12 million with a 3.8 demo.

Hostages got 7.5 million and a 1.8.
