Does anybody know if Alex Ross expressed an opinion on this film yet? Just curious...because he hated the suit when the first image was released.

Even if he gives a good opinion, I cant take him seriously.

Hes such a flake. He should simply stick to drawing and leave it at that.

LOL...though I love his Superman suit (even with the enormously huge \S/)... I dislike the muscular looking Superman he draws so even if he did say something I'd be apt to dismiss him on that anyway.

I dont like his super wide neckline. It looks like a leotard....

I agree with you....he's like the Charles Barkely of the comic book realm.

someone here actually did sit next to him in the movie theater and they got to talk with each other. i'm forgetting the name of the poster..... but apparently Ross was pretty excited at the start of the movie and seemed to have loved it when they were done. i'm gonna have to go dig around find who that guy was....

Alex Ross is one of many great arists that truly understand what Superman is all about. If Bryan Singer knew better, he'd have consulted Alex and implemented his ideas. Here we have one person who has done nothing but draw and paint Superman for his entire life, co-authored an awesome elseworlds comic (Kingdom Come), did the awesome Peace On Earth (which could've been nicely implemented into the film), and has captured a very particular Superman likeness unmatched by damn near every other artist to date....

...and in the other corner you have some guy who likes the Richard Donner films a whole lot.

For the record, in a Wizard magazine some time back, Alex gave his views on the comic's films out at the time. He said Superman's suit in Superman Returns was really bad.

And I agree with him.

to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th posters...if you don't like or respect ARoss' opinions on Superman Returns, as you said...you simply don't respect the character as well...

the reason ?

Lobster Charlie couldn't have said it clearer...

Alex Ross respect the mythos of Superman...he knows it shouldn't be played with...as did your homeboy BSinger...

If perople dont like Ross that up to them. The problem with Ross is that he believes he is the only person to have done Superman right thus, only his Superman is correct.

He does the same thing with almost every character he has taken on. Its either his 'perfect' version or nothing.

Singer has a perfect version of Superman too which is what we get in the film. No comiicbook or film has to conform to this silly notion that there is an ideal version odf a character.

Everybody sees the same character in a different way.

Has Alex Ross actually come out and said he thinks he is the only one to do Superman correctly?

If so, I'd love to see where that's written. Got a link?

I think many of the Singer haters are forgetting that he and most of his crew are big fans of Alex Ross. In fact they used many of his illustrations as insparation during the writing and designing process. As an Alex Ross fan myself i really appreciate that.

I'm curious what he thinks of the movie. I know he liked the X-Men movies.

here i found it....

its from a poster by the name of "romeogbs19" his first post about sitting next to Alex Ross is here, then he follows it up in the later pages, just go look for 'em.

So very true. I was talking about the same thing today to my brother. How great it is that every person has their own vision of how a character should be. That's why I love films and watching how each director brings a particular version of a well known character to the screen. I'd love to have that opportunity one day, as would we all.

That's a pretty silly and close-minded line of thought. :down

That is something I never thought I would hear a Superman fan say. Pretty narrow comment but that is what you believe.

Indeed, that was pretty damned ignorant.

Alex Ross's Superman has yet to appeal to me much. Not the Superman himself, but the way he's drawn Wonder Woman, etc, in the past. And sometimes Superman even had man boobs and a gut. : /

I prefer Lex Luthor Man of Steel, and Birthright, really.

Not saying Ross's is bad, I'm just saying he doesn't define Superman. Everyone has their own visions.

Juding on his designs he made for Spider-man (which were CRAP) I'm glad he had no say in Superman's costume or anything else about the movie. The man should just stick to what he's good at and leave everything else to the pros.

He's an artists......artists are a pain to deal with. So, deal with it.....he's a ****ing comic god...so....his opinon counts for something. He's earned the right.

exactly, ChirsBaleBatman.

And, so what if his redesigns for Spiderman are crap. Anyone who follows Ross' work knows that he's a DC fanatic---and he pretty much prefers drawing Justice League over anything else, and he does a DAMN fine job at that.

His Superman costume is traditional and spot-on.

I also think the Singer haters haven't read too many Elseworld stories. I've seen Superman do plenty of things that are a hell of a lot more questionable than anything SR did.

Abusive alchoholic in Act of God would probably be #1 for inappropriate behavior.

The guy is a major Superman fan.

He's gone on to say that between the two greatest heroes, Batman and Superman, he prefers Superman for the values, virtues, and standards he upholds.

Yeah, it sounds cheesy....but he get's the Man of Steel. KINGDOM COME is a book that really captures the Man of Steel, even if he's a lot older there.

uh, guys, i'm a big Ross fan myself, but do try to give credit where credit is due.

Ross only co-authored KC, and most of what he contributed was the artwork. the writing was done mostly by Mark Waid.

Waid is a great writer, and he mostly nailed Supes and Bats, but he missed Wonder Woman by a wide side of the barn. :(

True, but he's also a big Spider-man fan, yet for some reason he felt that the costume should have been absolutely butchered for the movie. I have no problems with the way he illustrates Superman, or any other character. I'm a fan of his work, and I'm not about to argue that he's not one of the most talented artists to ever work in the comics industry. But that that doesn't mean that his rambling about comic book movies should be given anymore credit than any other fan.

Well in this particular case, I'd definitely be interested in what a life-long Superman enthusiast thinks of the latest film installment. Lately, when I think of Superman in a "real" form, Alex Ross is one of the people that comes to mind, since he renders him in a photorealistic fashion, and cares so much about the character.

then again, I'd like to see what my Mom would think of this movie! So, that being said, you make a good point. ;)
