I mean, I don´t live in US, so it´s a little harder for me to measure up that stuff - most people I know are not big movie buffs, you know... But I´d like to know, it´s close to release, there have been plenty of trailers and spots, how do you see the hype on the movie, compared to other summer blockbusters? To, say, Spider-Man 2 or Episode III last year or to the other big releases of 2006? From talking to people, the Internet, etc., do you feel the potential for it to be huge?

I see it being EPIC!!!

Even bigger than Star Wars and Spidey movies.

I have to say that I believe many will be shocked by the response to SR. People need heroes in this day and age, and not only that but this will have very broad appeal. Children and adults alike will be blown away by it!:)

well, alot of people were complaining months ago about a lack of Promotion, but now you can't avoid seeing SR promotion in any store or urban area you to to inside the U.S.

Anytime you turn on the TV here, they always say "most anticpated movie of the summer" right before they mention SR.

The problem is POTC is very anticipated as well. Star Wars, Spidey, X3 had NO competition during and after it's inital release. I think it's going to hurt SR BO overall. If it had a X3 release date it would have been golden for a few weeks with no top competition.

Even so, I stll think it's going to make BILLIONS.. err 250-300 million.

I'd put it a notch below the Star Wars and Spiderman 2 hype.....It's picking up though.

Star Trek fan ? Man after my own heart. :) Star trek rocks. Now back to the question. It won't shock me if SR opens 100 million domesticly its 1st 9 days. It's when POTC 2 opens, then we'll find what kind of sea legs it has. If it can hold It's own against POTC, then it will be a huge suscess. Word of mouth will rule after 1st 9 days. Repeat business will be huge for this movie. Only Q I have in my mind is, will the movie going public who have seen Reeves Superman movies, be satisfied ? Will Roth be compaired to Reeves ? If that happens it could knock some of the leg out from under it.

This time around will just be good compentition. Now if it was SR VS FF, then that would be different. Then we would be flying. If it beats X-Men, no biggie. It won't, but no biggie. It means both did extremly well. Just nothing much going on on FF forum. Once it starts filming, get some pictures, then it will be flying, and I'll be right in the middle of it. :thing:

Still don't hear enough people talking about it....

Worries me a bit.... if that is what you mean by hype...general human buzz/chatter.

There was tremendous Buzz for X3 and it was reflected in that first day.... from ther it has been a slow road basicaly though X3 did surpass X2 this weekend.

At any rate Superman may not have huge opening like X3 if it had opened on Firday it would have had a good shot at a 90 Million dollar weekend

Now much like BB the weekend will seem lighter but 90 to 100 Million between tues day and Monday aint bad.... it will be dispersed but so be it.

It should have strong legs

I tend to agree with you. I still don't hear alot of people talking about it, not as much as Star Wars or Spider-man.

SR is going to be released on June 28th, so I think it will make $33m opening day and $80m opening weekend.

I agree. Very dead over here for a suppose to be summer blockbuster movie 9 days before opening. They had been going bonkers over in X-Men forums months before. Just not generating the fanatical hype you would expect.

I really place the blame for that on how this film has been marketed, very poor execution.

Spidey, maybe, but not Star Wars. I love Superman to death, but with how the film has been marketed so far, there is just no way. It could have been, but not now.

Star Wars is a whole different league guys. dont go there ;)

I guarantee you when FF starts shooting, and we start getting pictures, we'll be rocking the house over there. We'll be bouncing off the walls. Fox knows how to promote. The WB just doesn't. They didn't with BB, and their not with SR. They should be flodding the market like Fox does. Why the heck do you spend a reported 260 making a movie, then skimp on the promoting ? FF and X-Men : Last stand, you saw everywhere.

Nah Superman wasn't marketed right to beat TPM & Spiderman.

WB's approach was to pretty much keep a low profile on the film until a month out. They took the flood gate approach of showing all these TV spots, trailers and clips 30 days before the movie open date.

I remember Spiderman's hype starting 1 full year before the movie came out. I'm not talking about the hardcore comic fans, but the general public was hyped about it a full year ahead of time.

With Star Wars, CNN was running the trailer for Lucasfilm every 30 minutes in November of 1998. This was FREE advertising to, I would remember seeing it as a part of their news & they did the same thing for the full trailer that March.

Superman has been sprung on the public just within the last few months. It hasn't slowly been built up to the general public over a year or so like SM & SW, I still think it will make over 300 million though.

I continue to agree, the WB marketing campaign sucks. On top of that, while Im confidant this will be a good film, it really wasn't designed to be as big as Star Wars or Spider-man.

SR will be big, people just don't know it yet.
