I was just wondering what you guys think of hip-hop / rap music today? Is it better or worse?

If it's not Bun-B, it ain't worth listening to.

i've hated it since it came out

stupid rappers takin the ghetto away from Elvis

This is the most over-asked question ever in music. Every genre has it's own fair share of crap. And usually, people judge a genre based on what's playing on their radio, aka mainstream. Last time I checked, a lot of people here hate mainstream singles.

I think it's a bit unfair focusing on one genre, when you can easily ask the same of others. :down

I think too many rappers are getting deals and there material sucks.

I've never really liked much of it, but it does seem to be getting worse.

i blame Master P for it's decline in substance.

it gave a lot of idiots the idea of creating their own record label.... which in turn has watered down the music.

Now anyone with 1,000 dollars and access to a studio can make thier own crap...

the result? K-FED. :(

I currently am tired everyone talking about leanin back and twisting their body and making it sound hard core.

I do like to listen to Hip Hop/Rap but I have to say some rappers have stereotyped Hip-Hop/Rap to the point where people just think "oh its all about sex, drugs, the hood, violence etc."

I just can't wait until Nas drops his album. Hopefully this year. Now he is a true lyricist. But hey, the title of his album is called Hip-Hop Is Dead, in a way, it is true. Hopefully he can put the game where it is supposed to be.

It seems like the subject of every song is asses, money, or killing something

How many threads on Hip hop do we need? Some of it I like, but for the most part it just sucks...but that can be said for a lot of music nowadays.

I could write better rhymes than most of the rappers out there. :o

Most Rock sucks nowadays too.......the Alternative stuff is okay with a few awesome stuff.....but its all opinion I guess...

I have some respect for old school rappers, but today's are just horrible, there are some who seem like they may not be so greedy....

One thing that I don't understand is, so many rappers complain about how hard it was to live in the streets and in the ghetto, and that they lived horrible lives until they broke through....well how come they don't donate any of their cash money to a good cause, to try and prevent that from happening to following generations....

Well......if you have some money left over from the diamond encrusted jacuzzis

Hip-hop is basically mentioned on these types of boards just so suburban kids into rock can say "you can't spell rap without crap" so they can sound clever. Rock lovers are in the majority around here, so I don't expect a serious debate about the genre except with maybe a few of the members that truly have a love for the music.

Thats a good point.

I think hip-hop is the best type of music, and hopefully within the next couple of months or maybe a year it will turn back into the real stuff. It's just that the stuff that is put out today is not good. The east coast needs to come back and put some knowledge on these lame rappers.

I admit I can't say much, because nearly every genre of current popular music, I think, completely blows.....rock and rap mostly, they just seem mindless and like musical filler.....

The only rap I've only ever kinda liked is Jay Z..and that's pretty much it..

The general image that's shown to so many people though, kinda gives the whole genre a really bad name...and I can't really find anyway to respect most of the artists...hell I would barely even consider calling most of them artists

And it's the same thing with a lot of the "rockers" (a poor excuse :csad:) like FallOutBoy and Panic! at the Disco and all that other ****....

There are a select few artists I do think seem like cool guys though, Wyclef Jean and Mos Def and guys like that who don't seem so materialistic, selfish and greedy as other rappers I see today...

And that's all I have to say about that

Bingo.

I always find it funny how I always hear complaints on rap from message boards, but it NEVER comes up in a real-life discussion with hip hop listeners in the same room. Bunch of *****es. :o

I grew up on rap music..... hell growing up where I did it was all around me. It was right around the end of 1997 when I got sick of where the music was going... I already got fed up with the crystal, money, cars... whatever.. so I started listening to alternative... mainly radiohead. It took me a long time before I'd listen to anything hip hop related without being critical... nowadays I've made my peace and balance out my musical tastes.... mainly stuff that I grew up with... Black Moon etc... early 90's stuff.

I've noticed that too...
