How do you fix a 3rd or 4th world country?

As someone who's not a patriot in any sense, the U.S. is one of the better places to live in the world today. That's a positive.

Exactly. We have our share of problems but I would much rather live here rather than, oh I dont know....the Middle East.

If you want to fix an undeveloped country you have to know it's history and what caused it go down this path.

Blanket statements like "They have been fighting for years" or "bad governance" is not really an honest answer if you know their histories.

For most the problem was colonization, being raped of their natural resources, and then left.

Empowering women, and education are the 2 keys...because those things lead to their self-sufficiency.

Agreed. Any society that deprives 50% of their possible workforce from being educated and working is doomed to fail.

I don't know....that is a possibility, I'm certainly not unrealistic enough to think that that won't happen. But these people are tough. IMO, if it totally disrupts the government, then that is a positive. This country is absolutely beautiful and could be a tourist mecca easily, if the government corruption could be brought under control.

I just heard a story from a CNN reporter talking about how the other night, in one of the medical tents, a woman who was injured began humming, and then singing the Haiti National Anthem, within minutes over 300 injured Haitians were singing their National Anthem. These people deserve for their country to come back strong and vibrant. They are hard workers, beautiful people, they love their country...they just have a ****** government full of corruption. Maybe this is their start.
The corrupt government is really what is killing this country. I definitely agree with tourism...I've been to a few beaches in Haiti and they are absolutely gorgeous. However the urbanized areas are quite disturbing.

The key imo is definitely education. And not having government officials pocket money for themselves instead of giving it to the people.
I think if the government could try to entice hotel chains, resorts, etc to the most beautiful locations, it can be mutually beneficial to both parties.

I hope you know thats pretty much impossible, right?
