Comics How do you guys feel about the whole Osborn as a major marvel universe villian thing?

Because Byrne's Luthor is totally not a Kingpin rip-off at all...

No, actually he isn't. Kingpin is an out and out a criminal. But upon reaching a certain status, Kingpin sought to hide or rise above his criminality.

Luthor used his legal organinzation to manipulate the world subversively. Not for money, but simply because he believed he was better at running it than anyone else. Or, by virtue of his intelligence he deserved to be running the world. He could've remained legal. But his obsession with ruling the world, and especially destroying Superman led him deeper and deeper into being a criminal.

And before you say that that isn;t how Norman is portrayed- Norman, since his return has ceased to make the Goblin's activites the main thrust of his criminal endeavors as he had up to his "death".

Now, like Luthor he uses his money and position to subvert and manipulate. Initially the main focus was Peter, via the Clone Saga 2 etc. Then with Dark Reign it spread to world domination. The Goblin, which had been the refelection of his pathology, simply became a hobby. Which is bad writing.

Bottom line is that the whole evil corporate megalomaniac isn't a novel concept. I find Norman to be leaps above Lex in interest since Norman is literally crazy, and Norman was always a ruthless business man desiring more power. Plus, there's something about the Green Goblin that's visceral and for the Goblin to be a world threat is intriguing to me.

Keep Norman a global threat - Since Brand New Day erased all the juicy Osborn-Parker stuff.

If Spidey needs a Goblin to contend with bring back Kingsley's Hobgoblin.

If I cared about 616 continuity anymore, I'd personally be pissed that Spider-man is losing another of his rogues (and not just sharing even) to the rest of the MU.
