I'd say they should use the basic robes as a sort of uniform, but have everyone with their own variations. Different colors, styles, armor overlays, etc. Everyone is unique, but they can still be identified by the traditional look.

It was already pointed out in ROTJ all three jedi spirits are wearing similar robes. That's the standard Jedi look and was carried on in the PT.

Not really. Luke's clothes in ROTJ were originally supposed to be the uniform of the Jedi. This works thematically because Luke is walking around in open defiance of the Empire wearing the uniform of a people that were purged. Hence the name, "Return of the Jedi".

In the concept art for The Phantom Menace, you'll see that most of the Jedi outfits resemble ROTJ Luke more so than ANH Ben Kenobi.

I don't think Luke's outfit was supposed to be the official Jedi look. I think its really supposed to look like a mash between Ben's clothes and the Emperor's to show Luke's darker nature. Since learning his heritage, he's all darkly clad "like father like son"

I know you can make a case either way for the "Tatooine robe" Jedi look. Ok, maybe Jedi just dressed like the "common" people of the galaxy, whatever. I mean, old Anakin is dressed like Obi-Wan, why does he revert to that costume in the afterlife? Dunno.
Luke's costume at Jabba's Palace is basically just a dark, sleeker version of what he was wearing on Cloud City... with the addition of the kimono-like robe part (and cloak). And that's all I think that matters; the Jedi look (in general) just needs to feature some aspect of Japanese/Samurai/Medieval Knight/cloaked figure. I think Obi-Wan and Anakin wore something that was specific to a Tatooine Jedi. I think maybe the prequel costume designers just got lazy and made it the garb of the majority of Jedi, when it should have been a unique variation on a similar theme. I also thought there should have been two types of Jedi costumes: something closer to Luke's for the more action-oriented Jedi Knight, and the longer, flowing, robe look for the more spiritual, monk-like Masters.

Luke's Empire and Jedi looks are quite different.

Yes, quite different, one has has extra pockets and is white, the other has a glove and is black. My point was they share the same basic silhouette and can function more or less in the same way as Jedi tunics.
