We see that Chloe lives in Smallville. Which has been established as being a 4 hour drive from Metropolis. Now, we hear Lois might live there too. That is some commute. :wow::oldrazz:

It's not important enough to bother me.

Truth be told, when I lived in a small town in norther California, I knew people who commuted to and from the big city that was 3-4 hours away, and they did this every day...so it is a plausible situation.

But that may be why I can forgive it.

In fact I did that for a while. I lived in Sonora and I had to travel to Sacramento for work for several weeks, and it was 3 and a half hours away from my home. It was tiring and a long drive but I had to do this every day because I couldn't afford to stay at a hotel and I had responsibilities at home.

They retconned that last year in Veritas...

Lionel called Smallville a sleepy little town just outside the city when he told kid-Lex where they were going in the helicopter.

^ Yup, they did.

Obviously this strays from the comics..but it works in the confines of Smallville and the continuity they have set up.

With that in mind, it's even less of a problem.

My feelings on this are well known

And let me say, though I was never fond of relocating Metropolis to Kansas, I eventually got used to the idea. That said, I hate the idea of Smallville as a suburb of Metropolis. I write off Lionel's line to Lex as an inaccurate recollection or the fact that to the Luthors, a jaunt to a rural community via helicopter really is "just outside the city." :oldrazz:

The thing that bothers me about the "commute" isn't the distance so much as the frequency at which each character (save Clark) goes back and forth. I'd understand if it were established that Chloe, or Lois for that matter, just decided to take the commute for work. Unfortunately, the characters go back and forth so often in the course of a single day that it stretches the realm of plausibility.

In "Plastique," Superfreak brought up the point that it makes no sense for Bette to go all the way to Smallville with someone she just met. You'd think that about an hour and a half into the ride, Bette would've been like, "Where are you taking me?"

Yeah and at the end of season two, when Clark was on Red K, didn't we get a shot of him riding his motorcycle right outside of Smallville and you could see the Metropolis skyline in the distance?

There was also another scene during the first or second season when he and Lana were sitting on top of one of the windmills and you could see the Metropolis skyline in the backround.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. It can't be too far if you can see it from the top of a windmill in Smallville.

Hopefully, Chloe can commute on the Clark super-speed train. ;)

That's right I forgot about that. When was it established that the drive from Smallville to Metropolis was a 4 hour drive?

Actually it was said many times in the show its a 3hr ride to metroplois and a 6hr to/back trip. Yes they been very inaccurate on the times many times in the show. As for the metroplois in skyline during season one the producers said many times the effects people screwed up then and made the skyline to close.

It was in Truth.

In the second season they had Nicodemus where they looked at the city from the top of the windmill and then in Exile you could see Metropolis in the distance....

They'd established that they were fairly close early on...

But in Truth, which was in the third season, Chloe with her new truth finding abilities, got Pete to admit that Clark was going to get them hotdogs from the stadium while they watched the game.

She said something about it being a three hour drive, but I don't know if that was a round trip or each way... She said that was crazy and then Pete admitted that Clark could make the trip in less than ten minutes.

I said something about this also while watching Smallville yesterday.

the commute thing didn't bother me. I was more intrigued with Clark being proactive than Chloe in the entire episode. She bores me.

"Chloe: What? Clark is driving 6 hours to get a couple of hot dogs?
Pete: Well, when Clark goes super sonic he can make the round trip in 10 minutes."

So yeah, it's 3 hours each way.

Right... Gotcha.

That's a long commute, and if Metropolis were really that far away, then there's no way you could see the city skyline from a windmill in Smallville.

They retconned the distance from the earlier distance in Season 2 (close enough to see the skyline from Smallville) to being further away in Season 3's Truth, they'd just retconned the retcon.

It doesn't bother me.

Thanks for the info Trip.:yay:

I never really paid attention or really thought about how far Metropolis was from Smallville on the show.

Does to me, because the writers and such don't put much thought about Superman lore and history

It brings up the interesting question of where exactly Metropolis is...

it seems that its in a different spot, in ever version

I think the smallville version kinda makes sence
with it being closer to Kansas

oppose to other versions that have it being on the East coast

If they'd done it from the comics, Metropolis wouldn't have been an easy driving distance (whether you could see the skyline from Smallville or not). It would have been on the East Coast.

It doesn't bother me, they do things their way and it makes sense in terms of how this story has unfolded.

Well, it's actually in Kansas in Smallville, so it's sorta like Kansas City, I suppose.

yea we dont really know where it would be for smallville, but in most dc incarnations it has been set on the east coast, between nyc-delware state area i believe.

In the comics isn't Gotham like it's sister city or at least pretty close by. Well I went and check on Wikipedia and it just depend because Gotham has been describe as Metropolis and Gotham being twin cities and being as far as gundreds of miles apart. And personaly Chloe's commute wouldn't bother me if that much if at all if they didn't show the Talon.

I think that Gotham's suppose to be like Chicago and Metropolis is like New York City.
