How I Met Your Mother

How I met your mother has some of the lamest stories I've ever seen on TV :( "Marshall wants to jump off his building", "ted designs building but goat thwarts him"... But alas its a very funny show, why can't the writers stop being so lazy :(

I feel the exact opposite.

All of these seemingly trivial plot lines have relevance to the theme of the show. Marshall being scared to jump off the roof and then finally doing it with the rest of the group was an allegory to what everyone else was going through with life decisions.

Ted was scared to give up architecture and become a teacher, but made the leap when Marshall finally decided it was time to face his fear of the roof.

Barney and Robin were scared to give in to their feelings for each other but finally did and made the leap into a relationship.

Everything in HIMYM is intra-connected in some way and means something, no matter how insignificant it may appear. One of the reasons I love the show so much. I actually feel the writers put a great deal of thought into writing the show to accomplish this every week.

CBS just announced it's fall schedule.

Monday

8 p.m. - "How I Met Your Mother"
8:30 p.m. – "Accidentally on Purpose" (new comedy)
9 p.m. – "Two and a Half Men"
9:30 p.m. – "The Big Bang Theory"
10 p.m. – "CSI: Miami"

Aww, they axed Worst Week. Its ashame because it was a really good show...but at the same time, it went through its complete plot arc and had a satisfying end so maybe it is for the best. Still, it is sad that a great new show dies because 9 million viewers per week is not enough for CBS, but Scrubs is getting another season without it's cast and According to Jim got like, 9 seasons on 4 million viewers per week.

I think we knew since the first episode that Robin wasn't the mother. I think he referred to her as Aunt Robin to the kids.

Yep, they established in the pilot that Robin is not the mother.

So you liked this show better for the 1st 21 minutes it was on air?

It was debated ad nauseum for the like the entire first 2 years the show was on air even with him referring to her as "Aunt Robin"

NEver-the-less, Carter Bays has always been very clear that Robin is not the mother.

Well, you must've been on the side of people very much in denial of Robin and Ted's future. It seemed pretty clear to me after the first episode Robin wasn't the mother. I think they were a great couple while it lasted, but as Ted put it the relationship clearly had an expiration date.

why did they change the timeslots for HIMYM and BBT around? I liked watching BBT at 8pm and HIMYM at 8:30pm. :csad:

That's why you put it on later, so people feel as they have to sit through the other shows first before they can get to the one they really wanna see. That's how I got into BBT in the first place.

It's TV broadcasting 101. You put on a strong show and hope to retain that audience for the following show that may need the bump in ratings. They want to give the new show some ratings and give BBT an easier slot following a very strong show in THM.

so I watched "The Platinum Rule" last night and it got me to thinking, which of the rules seem to be the most applicable in the real world

I vote for the Crazy/Hot Rule

Pretty much all of barneys rules have rl application.

maybe not The Lemon Law....Ive had bad first dates and not called back, but not during the date...well maybe if you're at the bar waiting for a table or you haven't got to your destination and you realize it isnt going to work

I wonder if that naked guy trick works. Why don't you try it BL. I can't go to jail again. 2 strikes and all that. :o

I picked up The Bro Code book they released last year. A lot of the rules seem very true.

Barney and Marshall flying in their nightshirts was hilarious!
