How I Met Your Mother

Just saw the episode on CBS.com. Really good way to start off the season. I also wonder who's wedding that is. It could be Barney's but I doubt he marries Robin. I thought she is supposed to end up with Don? I could have sworn that Future Ted said that. Although that look that Barney gave to Robin when she cleaned herself up was a little hint at what's to come, maybe? Anyway, I hope they still focus on the mother aspect. While the characters are great, it was the mystery of the mother that drew me in the show.

you think they will use the classic cliche '' i can not have a baby ''?

Hasn't narrator Ted talked about Marshall and Lily's child before?

Apparently it is Cindy and the blonde's wedding. Which makes more sense on how Ted would meet the mother. However this could happen next season or in season eight.

i mean if one of them will have some problems.

adopting is easier. that way they can have an older kid :woot:

So I guess Ted is Cindy's Best Man? Ha! Well I like that more than it being Barney's wedding.

Where'd you read that? Why would Marshall and Ted be in her wedding party?

It was the wikipedia entry for the show. So it could be just one fan's guess. It makes more sense than Barney's. Though I do like that they kept it a mystery by not showing Barney/Robin.

I guess we'll find out over the next three years.
It is tricky, how could the mother be there if it is Barney's wedding and how can it be Cindy's wedding if Marshall and Lily are in the wedding party.

Cindy could become friends with the group over the next three years. Cindy becoming a lesbian has to mean more other than just a big tease of "Oh the book reading woman is not the mother!"

I really can't see Barney changing his ways and getting married. Even if it's to Robin. Didn't they break up because they were too comfortable with each other?

the wedding is 3 yr away?

The cast is signed for until the end of season eight. Jason Segel said he would like to leave then. Eight full years is a good run. So if the wedding is where Ted finally meets the mother it would have to be in the last season right? Now it just depends on the ratings. If they hold up the show could run for another two seasons after this. If they tank and CBS says this is the last season they know have an ending they can write towards.

you are aware that they are chaning from year to year their own rules? ;)

It would be a nice tide knot. If Ted met the mother at Barnnacle's wedding. Considering Barney was never the marrying type.

They could spend a season with Ted trying to get the mother after he met her. Or he could meet two women at the wedding, and spend a season with him in a love triangle with them. And I assume season 8 would lead up to Ted's wedding. Its been teased on the show before. They have to show it and it makes the perfect finale.

It's not Robin. The first time he told them about Robin, he said "And that's how I met your Aunt Robin."

I only recent started watching this show... and have been getting caught in the old re-runs... recently watched the pilot, an, ya, thought it was odd that he said right in it, that she wasn't the one... I mean why did they even bother to play out there relationship throw out the first season, if we already knew it wasn't going anywhere

Honestly, I want Ted to meet the mother this season. Then they could spend the next two years dating and getting married. It would be ridiculous to wait another 3 years before we even meet the mother. I'm excited for the storyline but I don't want it dragged out either. When the show first started, I thought it would end with Ted meeting the mother. But now I'm fine if if they end it with them getting married.

I think my idea is likely. Ted will meet two possible candidates at the wedding and spend season 7 in a love triangle.

I dunno how they'd play it out over an entire season, but I have a real feeling that we'll be seeing this mystery wedding in short scenes throughout the entire season. The season finale would, likely, reveal Ted meeting his bride-to-be, and then we get a season or two of courtship and marriage plots.

I don't think that will happen Matt. They are not going to do the "is this the mother" bit anymore. TPTB said:

"That trick that we've done for five years—Is this one the mother?—we're going to put that trick to bed," Craig revealed. "You're going to learn some stuff in episode one that ends that particular gimmick."

I'm not sure what direction they take it, but I have the feeling that one of the cliffhangers this year or next year will show Ted after the wedding staring at the rain and suddenly the yellow umbrella pops up.

I loved the episode. Glad they started it off with something big. Should be a great season.

i think it's Barney and Robin's wedding also.

Now in the 100th episode we were told that the mother played bass in a band. Could it be that maybe she's part of the band playing at that wedding?

I'm still hoping Jennifer Morrison is going to the mother.

That's sounds very plausible.

Alright, I have watched the beginning and end a couple of times now and have a pretty crazy theory. The way it was written led us to believe that Ted was the Best Man in the wedding, but it never directly says he is. Maybe the wedding is actually for Ted (maybe to Jennifer Morrison?). When Lily says the best man is being summoned, maybe that is actually Marshall. They even teased it by Ted saying Marshall would be his best man when he was talking to Barney in the bar. Also, Ted remarked "geez what now", which could mean that some bad things have happened previously, maybe leading up to the big day and it gives him some doubt. Not to mention that the first wedding toast is usually done by the Father of the Bride. Perhaps there are issues between he and Ted as well and Ted is concerned about what he says. Just thinking a bit outside the box. The writers have been pretty sneaky in the past. You never know.

He meets the mother at a wedding. Are they having blind weddings now? Or would Ted get stood up for a 2nd time?
