First Class has started the origin of the x-men in 1963, just like the origin of the comics, so they have the chance to continue the saga from this point until the 90's or so, if want it; with all the possibilities this means...

So, the topic is plain and simple:

If you were a Fox executive and you could vote how many movies will be set in the past, with this First Class cast (more future additions)....

How many movies would you like in total, including First Class?

I guess two more. One just for the much needed sequel and a follow up for hits and giggles.

I'd be fine with 3

3 First Class movies
3 films with the original cast
2 Wolverine movies.

I'd be good witht that

I would want 4 or 5 maybe even 6. At least 4. I like the lead actors/characters too much to just want 3 films with them. There are plenty of characters and stories they can introduce to sustain this series successfully.

Totally agree.

They have 40 YEARS of comics to continue this franchise in an EPIC way.

Im really excited with this new cast and all the things they could do with them, more the new x-men in the sequels.... they HAVE to introduce young Scott, Jean and Storm at some point..... I will be soooooooooooo happy that day. :hrt:

As many as this* crazy bastard signs on to be in tbh- 10+ sounds realistic.

At least 2 more. I would like the next one to be set between 1968-1970 (Johnson/Nixon/Vietnam era) and the third one set between 1978 to 1980 (Carter/Reagan/Iran Contra era).

Yep, I'm pretty smitten as well.

As many as possible, though it's likely there will be: leaps of a few years from time to time otherwise we'll never move forward; some recasting; and perhaps at least one movie without Magneto.

I voted for 6.

Id be more than happy with 4 movies set in the past, but after watching First Class and seeing the quality this new creative team is bringing to the franchise, the good cast they already have, and all the possibilites and years of comics they can use from now..... I cant help but to wish the largest superhero franchise ever.

I cant wait for the day they introduce young Scott and Jean on a sequel, to give them a great introduction, like they deserve, and give us epic action sequences with these two well known x-men, fighting with Banshee, Havok and Beast. And of course, to see a young Storm in the next sequel.

you know.... they can do WONDERS with all these characters, and develop them slowly, sequel by sequel, to gain the support of the fans for once and for all, after past dissapointments.

So in my perfect scenario, this is what I would love:

- 2 movies in the 60's
- 2 sequels in the 70'
- and 2 sequels in the 80's.

Would be amazing to see the evolution of all the characters, more Scott, Jean and Storm from the 60's to the 80's.

They can really do it, so I can only hope each sequel give them more money so they finally get the ultimate faith to continue this franchise with this cast, and to make even better sequels one after another.

Lets hope for the best! (and hopefully someone from Fox uses to read the boards lately :D)

Talking strictly a direct FC sequel and not DOFP. I would think Since First Class takes place in 1962 jumping to the 80s or anytime after that would age those actors by at least 20 years which is a pretty big age leap. You would have to recast. First Class wihout Mcaovy or Fassebender would drop the First Class title even if its still connected and not a reboot. Plus by that time they would have had other teams, so calling it First Class would be pointless.

First Class itself probably has to stay within a 10-15 years jump cause It can be in danger of its characters being too old for the cast to play. So I would say the FC crew would only have two movies tops going no later then the late 70s. After that it would no longer be considered a First Class movie and just an X Men one. And personally I think after this cast is done they need to get out of the past and into modern times. X men movies should keep going but direct sequels for FC? Two more, then move on to the future classes.

I voted for 6 because i remember a mention of making more than one trilogy if needed, this would let the first trilogy use the characters introduced and let the sequel have Magneto and the magic bullet, then instead of shoehorning the characters of the original trilogy in the 3rd film they could do this in the 2nd trilogy.

But in the end all i want is for all the storylines, both in the past, in the main series, and in the wolverine spin-off to come to a conclusion.

If i was a 20th Fox executive i would let Bryan Singer produce and have control over the X-Men franchise, i would let him retcon and make his oun version of X-Men 3, which would follow the original idea of being shot back to back with X-Men 4. I would let The Wolverine happen but X-3: Last Stand and X-Men Origins: Wolverine would be erased from canon.

The X-Men: First Class series should stay as a Prequel but still have an identity of its own and do its own thing, but shouldn't ever become a complete reboot.

The topic wasnt about calling all the movies First Class, it was just a quick way to tittle the thread.

The issue is how many sequels would we like set in the past, (60's, 70's. 80's, 90's...) and with the First Class cast, more new additions.

Well your thread is still called "How many First Class movies would you like in total?" Sounded like you were taling about movies with the FC cast plus people being addded down the line. I answered about X movies in the past as well. I said 2 Then move to current times once the FC cast is done. I dont really want to see the next 20 years of X men films set in the past. Two more would be more the enough for me and I dont want to see it go to the late 80s/90s. Because as of now that would mean a recasting Mags and Xavier. I have no interest in seeing that happen. Keep it in the 60s and 70s so we can keep the leads.

Six would be cool though I don't think they could get the whole cast back for five more movies.

I think that Chavier, Magneto and Mystique are the only ones that are actually needed to return in all the movies, that is if they still make it in the timeline of X-1 and 2

They're definitely the important ones, but I'm not sure even they would be willing to do six movies.

If the next two films are hits and the actors still enjoy their characters then it couldn't be too much of a hard sell to get them back for more. I think it would come down to, like everything else, money.

Why do you think they have to recast Xavier and Magneto?

James and Michael will age naturally, so they can play the characters as long as Fox and them want it.

They aren Patrick and Ian, and even them would play the characters again, as have said.

Its all about the studio plans, not about the age of the actors.

I disagree. 20-30 years older is pushing it. Which is how much they would age once we reach the 80s. Going from 30 to 50 is a big visual difference. They wont pass for that. Gotta keep the films in 60s/70s so thats not a problem.

I miss Ian, i hope they use old magneto again.

oh, I get your point now. you're talking about looking the supposed age they would have in the 80's or something.

Well, it just depends of WHEN Fox will release a sequel set in the 80's....

maybe in 2032 :woot:

Haha yeah thats exactly why Im against it going to the 80s. Id rather see modern times brought back once Fassbender and Mcavoy cant play their roles anymore. It will just take too long to go through all the decades. I really dont think they will do that.

I understand your point.... but at the same time they cant use the original cast longer than the First Class cast, which is younger to this franchise, and younger actors too.

Patrick and Ian wont be playing Xavier and Erik in 5 more movies, for exampe, specially with a 3 years gap between sequels.....

while James and Michael really can...

so.... what's the smartest idea? :D

Probably not jumping to the 80s. Continue on for 1 or 2 movies close to the First class time period, then seeing where they are at.

Since it is registered, they will be doing DOFP probably within the next 5 years. That will switch everything up. My personal preference is that the X Men movies arent all set in the past for the next decade or two. I just dont like the idea. But hey if they do that and they are good films Im all for it.
