How Many of you Actually Read Comics???

Did you like Identity Crisis?
It was not blood-boiling, despicable s***.
I'm mainly into comics for the art, I rarely give much of a **** about the "characters" or who's going to get chosen to be in the new team, etc.
, and I really hate the busy, "I wanna be the Neil Adams of the 21st Century!...but, with some Anime and Rob Liefeld influences mixed in! More detail! More LINES!!!" - Art Style.

Next, with comics from the begining up to the late 70's, I prefer them aesthetically, in a more analytical and philosophical way, but, I freely admit that I have a nostalgia thing for the 80's.

The 80's was when the "dark" stuff was brand new and really catching on (I'm not including the Green Lantern/Green Arrow social commentary stuff from earlier, because I mean, that "DARK" thing, really catching on in a BIG way).
I admit that a ton of it is 'cause I was a kid and it was what was there for me when I WAS a kid, (like people accuse Star Wars Prequel-Haters of doing), but art aside, the 80's was the most exciting time to be into comics......when you'd start seeing actual COMIC SHOPS  becoming more and more common, and there was a big boom, AND, they were pushing envelopes in the mainstream, which blew your mind.

I prefer that exact balance of traditionalism tinged with revolution, reverence befouled by rebellion, that was going on in the 80's.

Then Rob Liefeld and MacFarlane killed comics.
Boom, we're in a Post-Image world of crap.

Fixed.

I mean... rainbows?
The rainbows have always been a part of Asgard in Marvel-616, I didn't have a problem with them at all. My problem with it was I liked the concept that Thor was a crazy muddaf***er who thought he was a God, despite being just a crazy muddaf***er. It would have been better if they found a way to keep Thor's weirdness and still end the story.

We really aren't. In fact, if their are any two people who have less impact on comics, I cannot think of their names. Those two are universially reviled.

MacFarlane, when Spawn took off, scared the competition. But this was only momentary. And his era is long over.

Liefield has done nothing of note, aside from being made fun of for being an awful artist. However, he isn't the first awful artist and sure as hell won't be the last.

Also All Star Batman & Robin. :cmad:

hahahahahahahahaha

All Star Batman & Robin is a fun read because you know it's always going to come out on time, and there's no worry about losing interest in it.

Ex Machina, anyone?
Oh and I'm really digging Walking Dead.

Do you know what "POST" means ?
They are a joke, but their IMPACT was huge.

I'm saying, the 90's changed expectations. Being eXtreme, and "dark", and "flashy", and cramming a ton of meaningless lines into the artwork, and speed lines for dialogue scenes and trying for ridiculous realism in the coloring, even though it's laid over completely non-photo-realistic line art, and profanity, and sex, and a self awareness.....that's when all this stuff came into vogue hard.
There was a backlash, but it's disingenuous, because the comics of the 00's are very 90's. :o

The difference can be boiled down to, I guess, an era where adults were making comics for kids, and then an era where adults were making comics for adults...

A good example of what I'm talking about 80's/post-90's-wise is, Wolverine.
I was there when, if you liked Wolverine, and wanted to see him, you bought an X-Men comic.
He was a character in "the X-Men".

Now, how many projects have involved Wolverine?
It's a common occurance, "COOL" is stumbled upon, and is genuinely "COOL".
Then, once that's established, an effort is made to commodify the "COOL", and that's right when it all devolves into Suck.
It's like, there was nothing cooler than Boba Fett when we were kids and saw fleeting glimpses of him in Empire Strikes Back.
Now? lol
a joke.

I've lost count of how many comics I have but haven't bought a new one for 3 years now (since my little boy was born). I have read each and every one of my comics at least once and some of them I've read 10 times or more.

I own (and this list is not complete):
Amazing Spider-Man
Black Panther
Captain America
Daredevil
Eternals
Fantastic Four
Ghost Rider
Hawkeye
Jungle Action
Kazar (?sp?)
Marvel Tales
Marvel Team Up
Marvel Two In One
Nova
Omega
Power Pack
Quazar
Rom: Space Knight
Spider-Man
Thor
Wonder Man
X-Men

and many many others. Somewhere around 3000 I think. They're all in archival sleeves on bookshelves in my office.

I read comics. Haven't bought any in a while though.

Most of the people that post in here, I never run into in any of the various comic forums, or really, any other forums for that matter. Makes me wonder, if a lot of the people who frequent the Community Forum actually read comics.
I read comics but I'm not allowed to post anywhere else but in Community.

I gave up on mainstream weekly comics a number of years ago (I got sick of tracking the stories across different titles), but I still read graphic novels from time to time (like the "Death of Superman" compilation, and the Roger Stern novel). Most of my comic-related stuff nowadays is based off the films or TV shows. My current faves are "Smallville" (been watching since Season 2), "Batman Begins", and Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" series.

I started reading comics again but it is nearly impossible to keep up the habit of purchasing them on a regular basis especially when they're so expensive to begin with. I just download the occasional one now and then.

Oh crap, I bought all the Marvel Zombies. I loved those of course. I forgot. :(
